Sirius Black catches up with Peter Pettigrew. In desperation Pettigrew creates an explosion to mask his disappearance that kills twelve Muggles. He is believed dead and posthumously awarded the Order of Merlin. Black is arrested for the murders and sentenced to imprisonment in Azkaban.
The Weasleys get a pet rat named Scabbers.
1982
Igor Karkaroff is released from Azkaban to present evidence to the Ministry of Magic on the whereabouts of several Death Eaters. He fingers Augustus Rookwood of the Department of Mysteries.
Ludo Bagman is brought to trial for passing information on to the Death Eaters. He is released.
The Longbottoms are captured and tortured by four Death Eaters. These four include Barty Crouch Jr. and the Lestranges. They hope to return Voldemort to power but are soon caught. They are tried and convicted by Barty Crouch Sr. and sent to Azkaban.
The Longbottoms, now insane, are placed in the care of St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. Their son Neville is sent to live with his grandmother.
1983
Dennis Creevey is born.
Barty Crouch Jr. is visited by his parents in Azkaban. His mother switches places with him and he escapes with his father. She dies soon afterward, disguised as her son. Crouch Jr. is brought home and placed under the care of the house-elf Winky.
Ron Weasley breaks his brother Fred's toy broomstick. In retaliation, Fred turns Ron's teddy bear into a giant spider.

Cornelius Fudge becomes the Minister of Magic. Barty Crouch Sr. is transferred to the Department of International Magical Cooperation.

Voldemort takes over the body of Professor Quirrell.

Harry receives a letter from Hogwarts, but Uncle Vernon snatches it away before he can read it. Harry moves into Dudley's second bedroom.
July 25
Harry receives another letter which is again destroyed by Vernon.
July 26
Uncle Vernon spends the night on the doorstep. Harry receives three letters that Vernon destroys.
July 27
Twelve letters are delivered for Harry. Vernon seals up the house.
July 28
Twenty-four letters are delivered for Harry, hidden inside the two-dozen eggs brought by the milkman.

Letters are delivered through the chimney, prompting Uncle Vernon to relocate the family to a hotel.

Over a hundred letters arrive at the hotel for Harry. Vernon drags the family to an abandoned shack on a small island.
July 31
Harry turns eleven. Hagrid shows up with a birthday feast for Harry and hand delivers his acceptance notice from Hogwarts. He takes Harry to Diagon Alley to buy his school supplies, where Harry meets Draco Malfoy at Madam Malkin's. Hagrid removes the Stone from Gringott's, and later in the day the same vault is broken into by Professor Quirrell. The Sorcerer's Stone is brought to Hogwarts and a security system set up, including spells from each professor and a three-headed dog named "Fluffy."
September 1
Harry arrives at King's Cross Station and boards the Hogwarts Express at platform nine and three-quarters. He meets the Weasleys, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom on board. The Sorting Hat places Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville into Gryffindor and Draco Malfoy into Slytherin.
The Sorting Hat also places Dean Thomas, Seamus Finnigan, Parvati Patil, and Lavender Brown into Gryffindor. Padma Patil is sent to Ravenclaw.
September 2
Classes begin at Hogwarts.
September 6
Harry has his first Potions class with Professor Snape, who scolds Harry several times for no reason. Harry and Ron have tea with Hagrid.
September 12
Flying lessons begin for Gryffindor and Slytherin first-years. Neville Longbottom breaks his arm. Malfoy steals Neville's Remembrall and Harry chases after him on a broomstick. Harry lands a place on Gryffindor's Quidditch team.
Malfoy challenges Harry to a midnight duel but never shows. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Neville stumble across Fluffy while hiding from caretaker Filch.
September 13
Harry gets his new broomstick, a Nimbus Two Thousand. Wood teaches him how to play and Harry begins practice three nights a week.
October 31
Professor Flitwick's first-year Charms class begins object levitation lessons. Ron makes some nasty comments about Hermione that send her crying into the bathroom. A twelve-foot mountain troll finds its way into the castle and into the same bathroom as Hermione, prompting Harry and Ron to save her.
November 8
Snape confiscates Harry's copy of Quidditch Through the Ages. When Harry tries to reclaim it, Snape is bandaging his leg, and yells at Harry to get out.
November 9
Harry plays his first Quidditch match. His broomstick goes out of control, Ron and Hermione blame Snape. Harry still manages to capture the Golden Snitch by almost swallowing it.
December
Harry, Ron, and Hermione begin doing research to find out who Nicholas Flamel is. Hogwarts is dismissed for the winter holidays, Harry and the Weasleys stay behind.
December 25
Harry opens his Christmas presents, which include an invisibility cloak that once belonged to his father. After the holiday feast, he sneaks out of his room to do research in the restricted section of the library. The first book he opens begins to scream, alerting Filch, and Harry escapes into an empty classroom. Inside he discovers the Mirror of Erised, which shows Harry his entire family.
December 26
Harry brings Ron to look at the mirror, in which Ron sees himself as Head Boy and Quidditch Captain.
December 27
Harry returns to view the mirror once more, but is confronted by Professor Dumbledore, who reveals the true nature of the mirror to Harry.
1992
February-March
Harry figures out who Nicholas Flamel is by looking at the back of a Chocolate Frog card. Gryffindor plays a Quidditch match against Hufflepuff, which Snape referees. Ron and Neville fight with the Slytherins in the stands, while Harry captures the Snitch and wins the game. Harry overhears Snape confronting Quirrell in the woods.
April
The students get a lot of homework over the Easter holiday. Hagrid wins a dragon egg in a a game of cards, and accidentally reveals how to get past Fluffy. The egg hatches, and Hagrid names him Norbert. Harry decides they should send Norbert to Ron's brother Charlie, and arrangements are made for some of Charlie's friends to take the dragon. Norbert is taken away without incident, but Filch catches Harry and Hermione out after curfew. One hundred-fifty points are taken from Gryffindor.
May
Harry, Hermione, Neville, and Malfoy have detention with Hagrid. They head into the Forbidden Forest to search for an injured unicorn. Harry finds the injured unicorn and the creature that killed it, but his scar begins to hurt, crippling him. A centaur named Firenze finds Harry and brings him back to Hagrid, explaining the dark purpose for killing the unicorn. Harry realizes that the creature was Voldemort.
June
Exams begin. Harry finds it hard to study due to worries about Voldemort. They try to warn Dumbledore about Voldemort and the Sorcerer's Stone, but the Headmaster is away and Professor McGonagall doesn't believe them. Harry decides to try and get the Stone first, accompanied by Ron and Hermione. They manage to bypass all the traps and puzzles, though Ron is knocked out by a giant chess piece. Hermione is forced to go back to warn Dumbledore. Harry enters the chamber to be confronted by Quirrell, who shares a body with Voldemort. Looking into the Mirror of Erised, Harry gets the Sorcerer's Stone. When Voldemort tries to take it from Harry, he is repelled by Harry's scar. Quirrell dies. Harry wakes up in the infirmary. He is visited by Dumbledore, then Ron and Hermione, and later Hagrid.
Gryffindor wins the House Cup, with help from some last-minute points awarded to Ron, Hermione, Harry, and Neville. The exam results come back with positive results, and Hogwarts is dismissed for the summer.
July 31
Harry turns twelve. The Dursleys have a dinner party for a potential client of Uncle Vernon's, and Harry is ordered to stay in his room. A house-elf named Dobby visits Harry, and implores him not to return to Hogwarts. Harry refuses, so Dobby uses a Hover Charm to dump a bowl of pudding on Aunt Petunia. Harry is confined to his room.
August 2
Percy Weasley gets his exam results, receiving twelve O.W.L.s (Ordinary Wizarding Levels).
August 3
The Weasleys show up in a flying car and take Harry home with them. Mrs. Weasley yells at her sons, but is relieved to see Harry again. Harry stays with Ron for the rest of the summer.
August 9-11
The letters from Hogwarts are sent out. Harry and the Weasleys head to Diagon Alley via Floo powder for school supplies. Harry takes a wrong turn and ends up in a shop on Knockturn Alley. He runs into Hagrid, meeting up with the Weasleys and Hermione at Gringotts Bank. They meet Gilderoy Lockhart at the bookstore, and Mr. Weasley gets into a fight with Lucius Malfoy. Lucius slips Tom Riddle's diary into one of Ginny Weasley's books.
September 1
The Weasleys take the flying car to King's Cross station to catch the Hogwarts Express. Harry and Ron are blocked from entering platform nine and three-quarters, and miss the train. Ron decides they should take the car to school. The flying car is spotted by two muggles, and the engine dies out just as they reach Hogwarts, crashing them into the Whomping Willow. The car flees into the woods, and Harry and Ron are caught by Snape. McGonagall gives both of them detention.
September 2
Classes begin at Hogwarts. The Gryffindor's first class is double Herbology with Professor Sprout, who puts them to work repotting mandrakes. After lunch they have class with Professor Lockhart, who sets pixies loose on the class.
September 5
Wood wakes up the Gryffindor team up at the crack of dawn to train. Practice is interrupted by the arrival of the Slytherin team, who now have new broomsticks and a new Seeker, Draco Malfoy. Malfoy calls Hermione a Mudblood, to which Ron casts a spell to retaliate, but it backfires. Harry and Hermione take Ron to Hagrid's to recover. Harry and Ron do their detentions, Ron with Filch and Harry with Lockhart. While addressing envelopes for Lockhart, Harry overhears the basilisk passing by.
October 24
Harry tracks mud into the castle and is caught by Filch. Nearly Headless Nick convinces Peeves to distract Filch, so Harry manages to escape detention. In return, Harry agrees to attend Nick's deathday party.
October 31
Harry, Hermione, and Ron attend Nearly Headless Nick's five-hundreth deathday party. Other guests at the party include Peeves, Moaning Myrtle, and the Headless Hunt. As the only living guests, the trio feels less than welcome, leaving early. On the way back upstairs, Harry hears the basilisk again, and they stumble upon the petrified body of Mrs. Norris.
November
Professor Binns explains the legend of the Chamber of Secrets to his second year History of Magic class. Students start to avoid Harry, believing that he is the Heir of Slytherin. Hermione decides to use polyjuice potion to trick Malfoy into admitting that he is the real perpetuator.
November 7
Hermione gets the potion book they need out of the library and makes plans to gather the necessary ingredients. The very first Quidditch game of the year is played, Gryffindor versus Slytherin. A bludger enchanted by Dobby concentrates on Harry, finally breaking his arm just as he catches the Snitch. Lockhart tries to repair Harry's arm, but accidentally removes the bones instead. Madame Pomfrey gives Harry Skele-Gro to regrow all the bones in his arm. Dobby visits Harry in the infirmary. Colin Creevey is attacked by the basilisk.
December 10
Harry throws a firework into Goyle's Swelling Potion during Potions, causing an explosion that distracts Snape while Hermione steals ingredients from his office.
December 17
Professors Lockhart and Snape start up a dueling club. Snape teams up Harry with Malfoy, who conjures up a snake. The snake attacks Justin Finch-Fletchley, so Harry speaks to the snake in Parseltongue to make it stop.
December 18
Harry tries to make amends with Justin and the other Hufflepuffs. He instead stumbles across both Justin and Nearly Headless Nick, both incapacitated by the basilisk. Harry is taken up to see Professor Dumbledore, but says nothing to the Headmaster.
December 25
Harry, Ron, and Hermione take the polyjuice potion. Hermione is transformed partly into a cat. Harry and Ron masquerade as Crabbe and Doyle, only to find out that Malfoy is not the Heir of Slytherin.

Professor Lockhart throws a Valentine's Day Celebration for the school. Harry discovers the secret of Tom Riddle's diary, believing that it was Hagrid who opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago.
April
The second year students choose their subjects for the next year. The Gryffindor dormitory is raided by Ginny Weasley. Hermione is attacked by the basilisk. The students are placed under extra restrictions in order to prevent further attacks. Hagrid is taken to Azkaban as an extra precaution, and Dumbledore is suspended as Headmaster.
May 24
Harry and Ron sneak into the Forbidden Forest and meet Aragog, a giant spider that Hagrid raised when he was at Hogwarts. Aragog tells them part of the truth regarding the attacks, then attempts to feed Harry and Ron to its young. They are saved by the Weasley's car.
May 29
Professor Sprout and Madam Pomfrey prepare the Mandrakes to be made into a potion that can revive all those who were petrified. Ginny Weasley is thought to be missing in the Chamber of Secrets. Harry and Ron head for the Chamber, with Professor Lockhart in tow. Lockhart reveals himself to be a fraud, and tries to wipe their memories. The spell backfires, and Lockhart's memory is completely erased. Ron and Lockhart remain behind while Harry enters the Chamber.
Harry is confronted by Tom Riddle, who summons the basilisk. Harry's loyalty to Dumbledore calls Fawkes to the Chamber, and the phoenix gives Harry the Sorting Hat, then gouges out the eyes of the basilisk. Harry pulls a sword from the hat and kills the serpent with it, then uses one of the basilisk's fangs to destroy the diary.
Fawkes helps Harry and the others escape, leading them to Professor McGonagall's office, where Professor Dumbledore is waiting with Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. Harry tells them the entire story, and then speaks with Dumbledore alone. Lucius Malfoy barges into the room, and Harry realizes that Lucius was the one who gave the diary to Ginny. Harry tricks Malfoy into setting Dobby free.
A feast is held for the entire school to celebrate. Exams are cancelled, Gryffindor wins the House Cup, Hagrid returns, and the victims of the basilisk are revived.
June
Classes are dismissed. Harry gives Ron and Hermione his telephone number, and they go home.
Professor Kettleburn retires. His position as Care of Magical Creatures teacher is filled by Hagrid.
July
Arthur Weasley wins the annual Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw. The Weasleys go on vacation in Egypt.
July 18-24
Percy Weasley is made Head Boy of Hogwarts.
July 31
Harry turns thirteen. He receives letters and presents from Ron, Hermione and Hagrid, plus the annual Hogwarts notice.
Aunt Marge comes to visit. Vernon forces Harry to hide his magic ability, in exchange for signing the Hogsmeade permission slip.
August 2
Aunt Marge bad-mouths Harry's mother at dinner. Harry loses control and Marge's wine glass explodes in her hand.
August 5
Aunt Petunia cooks a big dinner for Marge's departure. Harry gets into a fight with Marge, causing her to swell like a balloon. Harry runs away from the Dursley's. He is picked up by the Knight Bus, and takes it to Diagon Alley, where he runs into Cornelius Fudge. Harry stays at the Leaky Cauldron for the remainder of his vacation.
August 31
Harry meets Ron and Hermione outside Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlor. They take Ron's pet rat Scabbers head to the Magical Menagerie for a check-up, where Hermione buys a cat named Crookshanks. Harry overhears the Weasleys talking about Sirius Black.
September 1
Harry, Hermione, and the Weasleys board the Hogwarts Express. They end up sharing a cabin with Professor Lupin. The train is stopped midway by a dementor and Harry falls unconscious. Lupin scares it off with a Patronus.
September 2
Harry, Ron, and Hermione have their first class with Professor Trelawney, who predicts Harry's death. Before lunch they have Transfiguration, and after lunch is their first lesson with Hagrid. The lesson is ended early when Malfoy insults the hippogriff Buckbeak, who then attacks him.
Later that evening the trio goes to visit Hagrid in his cabin. Hagrid scolds Harry for going out after dark.
September 9
Malfoy finally reappears in class, continuing to milk his injuries for the purpose of getting Hagrid fired. Snape forces Ron and Harry to help Malfoy with his shrinking potion. Neville messes up his own potion and Hermione helps him fix it, but Snape still takes points away from Gryffindor.
After lunch they have their first class with Professor Lupin. He takes them into the staffroom, where a boggart is hiding in the wardrobe. Lupin allows each student excepting Harry and Hermione to tackle it.
October 7
Oliver Wood calls the first Quidditch meeting to discuss tactics. The team begins meeting three times a week for practice.
October 15
After one practice Harry settles down in the Gryffindor common room, where Hermione's cat Crookshanks tries to catch Ron's rat Scabbers.
October 16
Lavender Brown receives news that her baby rabbit Binky was killed by a fox. Professor McGonagall refuses permission for Harry to go to Hogsmeade on Halloween.
October 31
Ron and Hermione spend the day at Hogsmeade, while Harry is left behind. He witnesses Lupin willingly drink a potion concocted by Snape.
After the Halloween Feast the Gryffindors arrive back at their tower only to find the Fat Lady missing from her portrait, having been attacked by Sirius Black. All of the students spend the night in the Great Hall while the castle is searched thoroughly.
November
The Professors as well as Percy Weasley become overprotective of Harry because of the reappearance of Sirius Black.
November 5
Snape takes over Professor Lupin's class for one day, which results in Ron getting detention.
November 6
The Gryffindors play their first Quidditch match against Hufflepuff. In the middle of the match, the field is invaded by dementors. Harry loses consciousness and his broomstick gets destroyed by the Whomping Willow, while Gryffindor loses the match.
November 8
Lupin promises to teach Harry how to defend himself from the dementors.
November 27
The Ravenclaw team defeats Hufflepuff in Quidditch.
December 18
Fred and George give Harry the Marauder's Map so he can visit Hogsmeade. He goes to the Three Broomsticks with Hermione and Ron. He overhears several of the professors in conversation with Cornelius Fudge, and finds out that Black is the man who supposedly betrayed his parents.
December 19
First day of the Christmas break at Hogwarts.
December 25
Harry opens his Christmas presents and finds among them a brand-new Firebolt broomstick. There is no note to identify the giver, so Hermione and Professor McGonagall suspect it was sent by Sirius Black.
Professor Lupin takes ill again.

January 6
Harry has his first lesson with Lupin. He learns how to create a Patronus to ward off the dementors.
January 8
The Slytherin team defeats Ravenclaw in Quidditch. Oliver Wood sees an opportunity for the Gryffindor team to advance to second place, so he increases team practices to five a week.
April 7-14
McGonagall gives Harry the Firebolt back after performing every possible test on it and finding nothing amiss.
Neville loses his list of all the Gryffindor Tower passwords, which he wrote down because he couldn't remember them.
Scabbers disappears, apparently eaten by Crookshanks. Ron gets mad at Hermione and the two of them stop hanging out with each other.
April 15
Harry returns to Quidditch practice with the Firebolt. The team has its best practice round ever.
April 16
Gryffindor plays Ravenclaw. Harry spots several dementors on the field and uses a Patronus to scare them off while he captures the Snitch. The Gryffindors win the match and the dementors turn out to be several of the Slytherins in disguise.
Sirius Black sneaks into Gryffindor Tower. He goes looking for Pettigrew but wakes Ron instead, who rouses the entire house and forces Black to flee again.
April 18
Neville gets a Howler from his grandmother for losing his password list, which Black found and used to get into Gryffindor Tower. Harry and Ron have tea with Hagrid, where he scolds the two boys for their recent behavior and advises Ron to make good with Hermione.
April 20
Hagrid takes Buckbeak for his hearing in London. The Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures rules for Buckbeak to be executed.
April 21
Harry sneaks into Hogsmeade with his invisibility cloak. Malfoy picks a fight with Ron in front of the Shrieking Shack and Harry fights back for Ron. The cloak slips free, revealing Harry's face. Malfoy reports back to Snape, who confronts Harry and finds the Marauder's Map. Snape is unable to discipher it and summons Lupin, who covers for Harry. Lupin confiscates the Marauder's Map.
Hermione gives Harry and Ron the bad news about Buckbeak. Hermione and Ron reconcile.
April 25-30
Malfoy insults Hagrid so Hermione slaps him. In Charms class Ron and Harry learn Cheering Charms but Hermione forgets to go. In Divination they begin working with crystal balls and Professor Trelawnley predicts Harry's death yet again. Hermione loses her temper and storms out of class.
May 1
The Easter holidays begin and the third years are loaded down with homework.
May 14
The Quidditch final against Slytherin. The Slytherins play dirty and foul the Gryffindors repeatedly. Gryffindor scores an early lead and Harry catches the Snitch, winning the Quidditch Cup.
May 22-31
Hogwarts students begin preparing for exam week. Percy Weasley studies for his N.E.W.T.s (Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests) while Fred and George practice for their O.W.L.s (Ordinary Wizarding Levels).
June 3
Exam week begins. The third years take their Transfiguration and Charms exams. Hermione has her Arithmancy and Ancient Runes examinations as well.
June 4
Final exams for Care of Magical Creatures and Potions. Hagrid gives the class flobberworms to take care of again. Harry is convinced Professor Snape gave him a zero for his Confusing Concoction.
At midnight the Astronomy exam is given.
June 5
Final exams for History of Magic and Herbology.
June 6
Defense Against the Dark Arts final exam.
Cornelius Fudge arrives to oversee the execution of Buckbeak.
Harry and Ron take their Divination exam. During Harry's test Professor Trelawney makes a genuine prediction about the return of the Dark Lord. She doesn't remember anything afterwards.
Hagrid loses the appeal for Buckbeak's life. Ron, Harry, and Hermione sneak over to Hagrid's to try and help, but Hagrid forces them to leave. Once outside Ron runs off after Scabbers, and the pair is grabbed by Sirius Black in his dog form. Harry and Hermione follow them through the secret tunnel to the Shrieking Shack. Harry tries to kill Black but is stopped by Crookshanks. Lupin arrives and tells Harry the story of Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs. Snape shows up and tries to apprehend both Black and Lupin, but is knocked out by Harry and his friends. Scabbers is revealed to be Pettigrew. Lupin and Black want to kill Pettigrew but Harry stops them from doing so. They take Pettigrew back to the castle, but Lupin begins to change into his werewolf form. Both Pettigrew and Lupin escape into the woods while Harry and Hermione are attacked by the dementors. They are saved by the arrival of a Patronus conjured by Harry's future self. Snape wakes up and takes the credit for capturing Black.
Dumbledore gives Hermione permission to use her Time Turner to set things right. They rescue Buckbeak from being executed. Harry conjures a Patronus to save his past self and Hermione from the dementors. They retrieve Sirius Black from Flitwick's office by flying up to the window on Buckbeak. Sirius and Buckbeak escape together.
June 7
Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave the hospital wing. Lupin resigns his teaching position and returns the Invisibility Cloak and Marauder's Map to Harry. Dumbledore and Harry have a talk.
June 14
Harry, Hermione, and Ron get their exam results back. They have passed every subject, even Potions. Hermione drops Muggle Studies. Percy does well on his N.E.W.T.s while Fred and George each come out with a handful of O.W.L.s. Gryffindor House wins the House Cup for the third year running.
June 15
The students board the Hogwarts Express to go home. Harry gets a letter from Sirius, and Ron gets a new owl.

July
Bertha Jorkins goes on vacation in Albania. She is caught by Pettigrew and Voldemort kills her after exacting information about Barty Crouch Jr. and the Triwizard Tournament.
August 19
Aunt Petunia discovers Dudley has been sneaking donuts into his room in defiance of his diet. She threatens to cut his pocket money, and in anger Dudley throws his PlayStation out the window.
August 20
Frank Bryce discovers Voldemort and Pettigrew living in the Riddle House and is killed.
Harry sees the preceding events in a dream, and when he wakes up his scar hurts. He writes a letter to Sirius. Harry is invited to attend the Quidditch World Cup with the Weasleys.
August 21
The Weasleys come to pick Harry up. They try to arrive by Floo powder, except the fireplace is blocked so Mr. Weasley must blast them free. Fred drops a charmed toffee which Dudley eats. The candy causes Dudley's tongue to swell up.
They return to the Burrow, where Harry meets Bill Weasley for the first time. Fred and George get in trouble for the toffee.
August 22
The Weasleys plus Harry and Hermione arrive at the campsite for the World Cup. They meet Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch. Fred and George make a bet with Bagman that Ireland will win but the Hungarian seeker Viktor Krum will get the Golden Snitch.
The Weasleys have seats in the top box at the stadium. Other spectators there include the Bulgarian Minister, the Malfoy family, and a house-elf named Winky. Winky is supposedly saving a seat for her master Barty Crouch Sr. but he never shows up. It is later revealed that Barty Crouch Jr. was hidden under an invisibility cloak the entire time. He steals Harry's wand.
The match begins and Ireland takes a large lead. Ireland beats Hungaria by ten points after Krum gets the Snitch. Fred and George collect their winnings from Ludo Bagman.
That night the camp is besieged by Death Eaters. Mr. Weasley wakes the kids and sends them into the woods while he and the other adults try to sort things out. Harry discovers his wand is missing. Barty Crouch Jr. casts the Dark Mark in the woods and disappears. The gathered wizards find Winky the House-Elf clutching Harry's wand, which was used to conjure the Mark. Though they conclude that Winky could not have conjured the Mark, Barty Crouch Sr. openly fires her for disobedience, though really because she could not control his son.
August 23
The Weasleys leave the camp and head home. Harry tells Ron and Hermione about his scar hurting.
August 23-31
The Ministry of Magic receives numerous Howlers complaining about security at the World Cup.
August 31
The Weasleys discuss the happenings at the Ministry. Ron gets upset over the dress robes his mother bought for him.
Mad-Eye Moody is attacked by Barty Crouch Jr. at home. Crouch begins to impersonate Moody so he can infiltrate Hogwarts.
September 1
Ron, Harry, and Hermione return to Hogwarts. Professor Dumbledore announces the Triwizard Tournament. Mad-Eye Moody arrives at the school.
September 2
The Gryffindors have Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures in the morning. Hagrid breeds a batch of Blast-Ended Skrewts for the kids to take care of. After lunch Harry and Ron have Double Divination with Professor Trelawney, who gives the class extra homework. At dinner they are teased by Malfoy again, so Harry insults his mother and turns away. Malfoy attacks Harry from behind, but is turned into a white ferret by Moody.
September 8
The Gryffindors have their first class with Moody. He demonstrates the three Unforgivable Curses to them. Harry finally gets a reply from Sirius.
October 22
Professor Moody practices the Imperius Curse on his students. Only Harry is capable of fully shaking off the effects.
October 30
Harry receives another letter from Sirius. The delegations from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrive. Dumbledore sets up the Goblet of Fire in the entrance hall with an Age Line circling it.
October 31
Fred and George take an aging potion to put their names in the Goblet. They are tossed out of the circle and grow long white beards. Harry, Ron, and Hermione have lunch with Hagrid.
The Triwizard champions are announced. Viktor Krum is chosen for Durmstrang, Fleur Delacour is picked to represent Beauxbatons, and Cedric Diggory is selected as the champion for Hogwarts. Harry's name also comes out of the Goblet even though he never submitted it. Ron is jealous of Harry and refuses to believe that he did not enter the tournament on purpose.
November 1
Harry writes to Sirius again.
November 2
Hagrid has the Care of Magical Creatures class take the Skrewts for a walk while he talks to Harry.
November 8
Malfoy insults both Harry and Hermione. Harry and Malfoy attack each other but the spells collide and deflect. Harry's shot hits Goyle, while Malfoy's shot hits Hermione. Her teeth grow past her chin, and Madame Pomfrey has to shrink them back down. Harry and Ron are given detention by Snape.
Mr. Ollivander arrives to weigh the champions' wands, and Harry is interviewed by Rita Skeeter. Harry receives a reply from Sirius.
November 11
An article about Harry written by Rita Skeeter appears in the Daily Prophet.
November 21
Harry and Hermione spend the day in Hogsmeade. That night Hagrid takes Harry to see the dragons being prepared for the first challenge.
November 22
Sirius appears to Harry to offer advice and warn him.
November 23
Harry warns Cedric about the dragons. Moody gives Harry a suggestion on using his broomstick to get through the first task. Hermione teaches Harry how to do a summoning charm.
Headmaster Dumbledore gives the house-elves Dobby and Winky work at Hogwarts. Winky refuses to be paid for her services.
November 24
The first task of the Triwizard Tournament. Each champion must get past one of four dragons and retrieve the golden egg from its nest. Harry and Krum tie for first place. Ron and Harry reconcile.
Harry sends a letter to Sirius. Gryffindor House has a party in celebration of Harry's success in the first task.
November 30
Only ten Blast-Ended Screwts remain under Hagrid's care. Rita Skeeter makes arrangements to interview Hagrid on Friday. Ron, Harry and Hermione visit the house-elves down in the kitchen.
December 1
Professor McGonagall announces the impending Yule Ball to be held on Christmas.
December 2
Harry is approached by a curly-haired third year Hufflepuff girl to accompany her to the Yule Ball.
Rita Skeeter interviews Hagrid for the Daily Prophet.
December 3
Harry is approached by two more girls for the Yule Ball. He turns them both down.
December 14
Professor Flitwick allows his Charms class to play games while he talks to Harry about the Summoning Charm Harry used in the first task. Fred asks Angelina Johnson to the ball.
December 16
Snape gives a Potions test, which Harry receives bottom marks on. Harry asks Cho Chang to the ball, but she had already agreed to go with Cedric Diggory. Ron asks Fleur Delacour for a date and she shoots him down. Harry asks Parvati Pavil and she accepts and agrees to ask her sister Padma to be Ron's date.
December 19-23
Ron tries to find out who Hermione's date to the ball is. Harry gets a letter from Sirius.
December 25
Harry wakes up to find Dobby looming over him. Harry and Dobby give each other socks for Christmas. Harry and Ron open the rest of their presents.
The students gather for the Yule Ball. Hermione's date is revealed to be Viktor Krum. They eat dinner and the floor is cleared for dancing afterwards but both Harry and Ron sit down after one song. Ron is jealous of Viktor and gets into a fight with Hermione. Harry and Ron go into the garden where they overhear Karkaroff talking to Snape and Hagrid speaking with Madame Maxine. Hagrid mentions he is half-giant. Cedric gives Harry a hint on how to solve the egg clue. After the ball Ron and Hermione have another fight in the Gryffindor common room.
December 26
Harry tells Hermione about Hagrid. Ron and Hermione come to an unspoken agreement not to discuss their argument.
1995
January
Rita Skeeter publishes an article for the Daily Prophet revealing that Hagrid is half-giant. Hagrid goes into seclusion. Professor Grubbly-Plank takes over his teaching duties.
January 21
Hogwarts students visit Hogmeade. Ron, Harry, and Hermione have a drink at the Three Broomsticks. Ludo Bagman is there conversing with a group of goblins, and places a bet with them that Harry will win the Triwizard Tournament. He offers to help Harry solve the egg clue. Harry and Hermione confront Rita Skeeter about the article she wrote. They visit Hagrid and help convince him to return to work.
January 23
Hagrid returns to work on orders from Professor Dumbledore.
January 26
Harry sneaks into the prefect's bathroom to solve the egg clue. Moaning Myrtle appears and helps Harry, complaining that he never visits her anymore. Harry spots Bartemius Crouch on the Marauder's Map. He decides to investigate but gets caught in the trick step on the staircase. The egg opens and the wailing attracts the attention of Filch and Snape. Harry is saved by Moody, who borrows the Marauder's Map.
January 27
Professor Flitwick's class practices Banishing Charms. Harry converses with Ron and Hermione about the previous night. Harry sends Sirius a letter.
February
Harry, Ron, and Hermione spend their free time researching a way for Harry to survive underwater in the second task.
The Dark Mark tattooed on the arm of every Death Eater begins to darken.
February 20
Harry gets a response from Sirius.
February 23
Ron, Hermione, Cho Chang, and Gabrielle Delacour are taken hostage in preparation for the second task. Harry spends all night in the library studying.
February 24
Harry oversleeps and is awakened by Dobby, who gives him a handful of gillyweed to use in the task. Harry dives into the lake and reaches the goal first, but refuses to leave until he knows everyone is safe. Cedric and Krum arrive and depart with their hostages, but Fleur never shows up. Harry unties both Ron and Gabrielle and takes them to the surface. Though he was the last to return, Harry is given a good score for his heroism. Harry and Cedric are tied for first place.
March 3
Harry gets a response from Sirius. An article by Rita Skeeter about Harry and Hermione is published in Witch Weekly. Snape catches them discussing it in class and separates Ron, Harry, and Hermione. He moves Harry to a desk directly in front, accusing Harry of breaking into his office. Snape is visited by Karkaroff.
March 4
Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit Sirius in Hogsmeade. He tells them about what Crouch did a decade ago.
March 5
Ron sends Percy a letter asking about Mr. Crouch. Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit the house-elves in the kitchen. Harry gives Dobby several pairs of new socks in gratitiude for the gillyweed. They send Sirius a package of food.
March 6
Hermione receives several nasty letters from people in regards to the article from Witch Weekly. One of them covers her hands in undiluted bubotuber pus.
March 7-13
Hermione continues to recieve nasty letters from people, but stops opening them. Several are Howlers and explode anyway.
April
Harry continues to send regular packages of food to Sirius. The students receive a large amount of homework.
April 16
Percy finally responds to Ron's letter. Mrs. Weasley sends Harry and Ron large eggs full of toffee, Hermione gets a very small one because of the article in Witch Weekly.
May 24
Ludo Bagman tells the champions what the third challenge will be. Krum talks to Harry about Hermione. Barty Crouch Sr. reappears, disheveled and insane. Harry leaves Crouch with Krum and goes to fetch Dumbledore. When they return Krum is unconscious and Crouch is missing. Later it is revealed Crouch Jr. had killed his father and hidden the body.
May 25
Harry tells Ron and Hermione about what happened the night before. They send an owl to Sirius. Fred tries to blackmail Ludo Bagman.
June
Harry spends all his free time practicing spells for the third task.
June 19
Harry practices the Stunning Spell with Ron and Hermione. He passes out in Divination and has another vision of Voldemort. When Harry wakes up his scar hurts, so he goes to see Professor Dumbledore. Harry looks into the Pensieve and sees the Death Eater trials from thirteen years ago.
June 20-23
Ron and Hermione help Harry prepare for the third task. Professor McGonagall gives the three of them permission to use the empty Tranfiguration classroom at lunchtimes.
June 24
Another article about Harry is published in the Daily Prophet. Ron and Hermione take their History of Magic final exam. Molly and Bill Weasley come to see Harry and support him for the third task.
The final task begins. Harry and Cedric enter the maze first. Krum and Fleur start soon after. Moody stuns Fleur and uses the Imperius Curse on Krum, who attacks Cedric. Harry stuns Krum. Harry and Cedric reach the Triwizard Cup at the same time, agreeing to share the victory. They grab the cup and are transported away to the cemetery where Voldemort is waiting.
Pettigrew kills Cedric. Pettigrew then prepares a spell to resurrect Voldemort. He takes bone from the grave of Tom Riddle, severs his right hand, and cuts open Harry's arm. Flesh, blood, and bone combine to bring Voldemort back to full strength. The Death Eaters are summoned. Voldemort chastises them, then tries to kill Harry in a duel. The spells cast by the two collide. Priori Incantem is triggered, creating ghostly shadows of those killed by Voldemort. They shield Harry from Voldemort and the Death Eaters so that he can escape. Harry grabs Cedric's body and uses the Triwizard Cup to return to Hogwarts.
Harry transports to the edge of the maze, in front of the waiting crowd. Moody takes Harry back to his office, revealing he is one who set Harry up. He tries to kill Harry but is stopped by Dumbledore. The disguise fades and the Death Eater is revealed to be Barty Crouch Jr.. Dumbledore gives him truth serum and he reveals everything about his escape from Azkaban and infiltration into Hogwarts.
Dumbledore takes Harry up to his office where Sirius is waiting. Harry tells the two of them everything that happened that night. Harry spends the night in the infirmary. Cornelius Fudge brings a dementor into the castle and allows it to adminster the kiss to Barty Crouch. Fudge refuses to believe Voldemort has returned and has a falling-out with Dumbledore. He gives Harry the prize money and leaves.
Hermione catches Rita Skeeter, who had been turning herself into a beetle to listen in on private conversations. Hermione puts her into a jar and makes her promise not to write anything for a year once released.
June 25
Harry meets with Mr. and Mrs. Diggory. They thank him for returning Cedric's body.
June 26
Harry returns to Gryffindor Tower.
June 29
Harry, Ron, and Hermione visit Hagrid in his cabin.
June 30
The Leaving Feast is held. Dumbledore tells the students the truth about how Cedric died.
July 1
The students head home aboard the Hogwarts Express. Malfoy harasses Harry and the others on the train, only to be attacked by a combination of hexes from Harry, Hermione and the Weasleys. Harry gives Fred and George his Triwizard winnings so they can open a joke shop after graduation.
