Exercise Tips

There are two types of exercise cardio (aerobic) and toning (anaerobic). For optimum health and weightloss it's good to do a mixture of both types. Cardio is any exercise which increases your heart rate and breathing rate (eg, jogging) - this burns calories and if it's done for over half an hour in one go you start to burn bodyfat too; it's also good for overall wellbeing and health, and is good for your heart. Toning is any exercise which builds muscle (eg, situps) - muscle makes you look better, speeds up your metabolism, and prevents dieting from burning your muscle for fuel. 

How much exercise:

  • we all agree: 3-5 times a week
  • half an hour to an hour each time

Best Exercises:

  • eliptical (community's favourite!)
  • running
  • weights
  • resistance training (pushups, pressups, crunches, lunges etc)
  • jogging
  • swimming
  • cycling
  • cross-trainers
  • pilates or yoga classes
  • youtube/video workouts
  • walking (especially if you're lazy!)
  • dancing
  • stretching

Other Tips:

  • make sure you enjoy it!
  • do it with friends or set a date in your diary to keep you motivated
  • vary your workout a lot
