Diet Tips

In General:

  • Weigh yourself only once or twice a week - not every day
  • Only weigh yourself first thing in the morning, naked, and after you've peed.
  • Lots of girls swear by measuring weightloss with a tape-measure around your waist and hips - this allows for you gaining muscle weight (muscle weighs more than fat)
  • Drink 8 glasses of water every day (for some reason this amount speeds up weightloss to the max! don't know why!)
  • Set realistic goals for yourself
  • Treat yourself when you've done well (most of us treat ourselves with shopping!)
  • Never eat less than 1000 calories a day
  • Eat as slowly as you can - for example chewing a mouthful 10 times before swallowing
  • Don't completely cut out a particular food group - you'll crave it and/or get vitamin deficiencies!
  • Avoid sugar as much as possible
  • Avoid processed foods (things with lots of ingredients - be wary of 'diet' foods - they're often unhealthy)
  • Make meals colourful - makes it more exciting and means it's more likely to have a variation of different vitamins
  • Take a multi-vitamin every day
  • Don't make a big deal out of it - it will annoy your friends/family and you'll get bored quick

  • Vegetables
  • Fruits
  • Cereals (sugarfree or low-sugar - common favourites are Weetabix, oatmeal/porridge and Special K)
  • Yoghurt (low-fat, but not fat-free)
  • low-calorie jelly
  • wholemeal bread
  • wholegrain pasta
  • potatoes (these are really filling!)
  • beans
  • chicken and turkey
  • fish
  • green tea (supposedly boosts your metabolism)
  • water
  • apples (big favourite)
  • skimmed milk
  • cottage cheese
  • soup (really filling!)
  • salad
  • eggs
