WCE News High Demand = Order BacklogsThe demand for our deterrents has remained high into October this year. So high that we have a 14 day delay between paying for an order and when it ships. We are working 7 days a week for very long hours to keep the deterrents needed going out asap. Much of the demand is to control coyote activity to protect pets and livestock. We seem to have come up with the best coyote solution around and the world is discovering us! We are proud of our work and doing our best to supply it... we make these from scratch only for USA needs. It is a job that is wearing on us, but we push onward to get the deterrents to you.DanCritters in My HouseYou might have raccoons or possums in your attic, or skunks or armadillo under your house, but you don't need to place a deterrent IN their living area. All critters need to come and go from their home area. They need to forage for food and water... and dance in the moon light. Phantom deterrents can be placed in the yard and it will convince them to move out by virtue of making the whole area seem very dangerous to your uninvited guests. They may feel safe once in your house, but they know they can be killed by that cougar they keep hearing. In a few days they will sneak away and not be eager to return. It's not unusual to see them leaving in daylight since the cougar sounds aren't around then. It almost sounds too easy, but it really works. The one thing recommended is to move the deterrent location every night or two until they scram. Then moving it isn't as important, but alternating a couple locations every so often is a good plan to keep the critters thinking something is moving around. Cold Weather and BatteriesIf your deterrent will be used during the winter, you may need to use better batteries. Alkaline batteries are only functional to 10 F on average. At below zero they may freeze, rupture and leak. This was one concern that lead to the battery packs being easily replaceable. The solution is to use lithium batteries during cold periods. They can work down to -40 and survive even colder! Eveready sells 4 packs of 1.5 volt AA lithium. They are in the $15 range. You can stretch the use life by switching to alkaline during warmer weather. The lithium might last a few years that way. If you have a deterrent that uses 6 AA batteries, Radio Shack sells a 4 AA snap pack that you can use for the lithium. They also sell the lithium batteries. Their voltage is actually a bit higher at about 1.8 volts when new so 4 cell performs quite well. More information here... Cold Weather Copyright 1999-2009 Walnut Creek Enterprises
