Why don't the deterrents bother domestic animals?
Question: Your product sounds very promising. However,
there is one detail that doesn't seem to make sense. Please tell
me how it is that your Phantom Guard-N PROtector deterrents
would frighten predators but not frighten livestock (such as goats,
chickens, cattle, sheep, etc.)
Answer: First I'll
mention that there is a 6 month satisfaction
guarantee, and we have not had even one return due to frightening
domestic animals or people. The deterrents run only at night and
sounding for a few seconds at about 6 minute intervals at a rather low
audio volume. There is no chance of a daytime problem.
There are a few different reasons why there are no problems.
1. Domestic animals are day oriented and these deterrents only
function at night effecting the pest animals which are all primarily
nocturnal. Domestic animals may react by staying in closer to the
safety of home at night as well. Adding a further element of
protection.
2. All birds, and possibly some other domestic animals, lack
instincts about cougar sounds. They simply are not effected at
all.
3. Any animal can be desensitized by demonstrating to the animal
that you are the source of the sound. They trust you and will
ignore the sound as being a danger. Humans are not instinctively
feared either.
Occasionally domestic animals are a bit nervous for a few days but
all reports
are that they adjust within a week or so at most. The 2301/2004
hiss models are less likely to offend, but the 2014 can be switched as
hiss or cougar scream. Often the scream sound is used initially to run
off any existing predators, then switched to hiss unless extra effect
is needed again. The scream setting is a cougar scream followed
by a hiss. Exposed predators will later remember the scream when
they hear just the hiss. This is an additional planned and tested
bit of trickery.
