Beaver Tree Damage Protection
Question: How can Phantom
Guard'n PROtectors be used to keep beaver from cutting down all of the
trees around a lake or stream where they live?
Answer: Beaver are
both very intelligent and have unusual habits requiring careful
implimentation to obtain good results. There are two different
situations to consider.
Deterrent Model recommended - 2014 recorded Cougar Scream
Coverage area - Up to 6 acres of effect for each deterrent, though this can be less or adjusted to smaller areas.
Technique;
Localized Areas away from lodge or dam
Use of deterrents can begin any time of the year to protect limited
areas that still allow some areas to be used normally by the
beaver. Their lodge or burrow and dam areas should not be
initially attempted in the Fall or Winter. Otherwise use the same
technique as given below for entire lakes and large areas.
Entire Lakes and large areas
Beaver commit a great deal of effort to ready themselves for winter
survival with lodges or burrows, dams and food supplies. This
makes them very determined to stay and stick it out in the Fall and
Winter months. It is recommended not to begin deterrent use in
the Fall and Winter since it greatly increases the likelyhood of the
beaver to become tolerant of even the deadly danger of a cougar.
The recommended proceedure is to trap out as many beaver as possible in
the winter and start using deterrents at green-out in the Spring.
You can of course choose not to trap but the area population will be
high and more persistant returns are likely. This will prevent
new infestations and any remaining will not have their survival
investment to influence their choices. Once started in the Spring or Summer, the deterrents
should be used all year round. Beaver have visitation routes with
other beaver in the area. Abandoned desirable territories will be
claimed by new beaver traveling these routes. The operating
deterrents will keep these visitors from staying.
Beaver are very intelligent so you need to be extra careful about
setting up the deterrents. If they discover the illusion as a
non-threat it is not very likely that those particular beaver will ever be
effected at a later time. Locate their current activity
area. The current place where they are out of the water chewing
down trees. Also locate their lodge or burrow. Set the
deterrent up near the activity area but back away from the water a
ways. Back 25-50 yards from the activity closest to it.
This is so the beaver cannot tell precisely where the sound
originates. Camoflage the deterrent well but be sure the light
sensor still turns the unit off in daylight. It can be on a
larger tree trunk or in brush or bushes. It needs to be at a
height that seems right for a cougar to be lurking. Pick a few
locations and move the deterrent every night or two at first to give
illusion of movement. Once the beaver seem to have abandoned the
area, the deterrent can be moved to near the lodge/burrow. Same
technique as the activity areas. It should not be required to
move the deterrent much after the initial period. Every couple of
weeks is still a good plan. If it is a large area, multiple
deterrents can be used and located near the various activity areas...
dam, lodge and cutting areas. Adjust sound volumes to have little
or no overlap. It is better to use too few than too many
deterrents. Total coverage is not a required or needed
goal.

We Are the Best Solution to your Pest Wildlife Problem
What Exactly are Phantom Deterrents?

Phantom deterrents are automated electronic sound generating
devices. They automatically turn on in the evening and off in the
morning. They periodically sound every 5-7 minutes for several
seconds, only at night. Most of the sound produced is within your
hearing range, but they are not shocking loud. Just a whisper is
enough to trigger an instinctive reaction in the pest visitor.
One sound is a synthsized hiss recognized by the pest as a big cat
sound. The other sound is an actual recorded scream of an angry
tom cougar. They are self contained easily portable battery powered and
highly efficient, being able to run several months, every night, on a
set of inexpensive AA alkaline batteries. The cases are 4 1/2
inches diameter rugged plastic, aluminum and stainless steel; that are
designed for all climate 12 month a year outdoor use. They can be
removably hung from a single nail or screw installed in any verticle
surface such as tree trunk, wall, fence etc. Designed life is 10
years or more. No tools are required to access or operate.
Very simple to set up and operate. While not very entertaining to
people, they are a thoroughly tested, tuned and proven, highly effective tool, to control pest behavior in
nocturnally active wildlife.
Phantom deterrents have been tested, proven and improved for 8
years. The deterrents have a standard 6 month money back
warrenty, with a user satisfaction rate of over 98% for all listed
species. The deterrents have the standard 6 month money back
warrenty to assure you that their instinctive effect never fails over
time like the common squeal and flash "frequency" scare devices that
come and go. Common scare devices are often cheaply made or on sale to
dump them and only have 30 day
warrenties at most, as their effect permanently fails very
quickly. Phantom deterrents do not fail over time. We also design
and construct them to last many years. Made in the USA and sold only in
the USA.
