 Saving Hope

One man, one heart, one goal,

Left in a prison cell,

No one cared or knew

That man very well.

Raoul Wallenberg was his name,

His family wished to get him back,

It was like searching for a needle,

In a large hay stack.

Only two people gave their hearts, Hopes and hard work,

To search for their brother,

In the time of the Cold War,

When they truly needed each other.

Raoul Wallenberg was hope,

And two people went to save him

But the question was still left to be Answered by a brother and sister.

Wallenberg's Brother and Sister Search for Raoul-1970’s

1970s--The Sister/Brother Search for Raoul Wallenberg

The sister/brother search for Raoul Wallenberg was started in the 1970’s. Wallenberg’s family had been very concerned since Wallenberg and his driver were claimed to have gone missing in 1945. In 1947, the Soviet Union announces that Wallenberg had died of a heart attack. Nobody really believed that Wallenberg did die because of supposed prison sightings after the “death” of Wallenberg. Wallenberg was an idol to many in the time of the Hungarian Nazis (Arrow Cross) in Budapest. He saved many lives, some say over 100,000 because of his bravery and clever personality. Raoul Wallenberg has been an idol in today’s time but the question still remains: What happened to Wallenberg?

Wallenberg is my hero because he sacrificed himself for other people knowing that he could be killed at any time. He did what he knew was right for the greater good. That is very hard to do, especially if you know where your life is going to end up. He was taking very big risks that put his life at very high stakes. He probably thought he was going to die during his time that he saved the many Jewish lives. I have so much admiration for Raoul Wallenberg because of the sacrifices he made and of his ethical personality. He was a very brave and kind, caring person. I hope someday I will be able to achieve greatness, like Raoul Wallenberg.
