The Dead Persons Society (DPS) was founded in Melbourne in 1992, it is now established in most states and major regional centres within Australia.
The DPS is an informal, unaffilliated, unincorporated, self help society of like minded people interested in advancing genealogical and family history research through the use of the electronic mediums.
It is a self help informal group of people with a primary interest in Genealogy and Family History Research, and they use computers to aid in their research. Not all people understand Genealogy or Family History Research and the same can be said for computers as a tool to aid the Researcher.
DPS members use computers and telecommunications to communicate with other like minded people all over the world via the Internet and BBS's. DPS members help other member, Family Historians, Genealogists or any person wanting to start tracing their own Family Tree to get started or possibly advise on locating those tough sources that we know about here in Toowoomba.
We do not do your research for you, but we will point you in the right direction if we can. We will help our members advance their computer knowledge and understanding through a buddy system of members helping members.
Anyone can form a DPS anywhere where there is a need, other DPS groups will help you setup and provide you with information on their setup.
Toowoomba DPS was formed by John Green whom having helped others in the past start on family research,
decided a better way was to join a larger group. The DPS was a help to his starting with family research on the net some 2 years before , this group accepted John's offer of starting a Toowoomba Group which was formed in May 2001, this being a starting point with our web page on the net for others to find links and more information on their family and thanks to Jan Crawford's help in getting it off the ground , Jan started her family research after meeting John on the net and becoming interested in family history some 12 months ago now.
So With Jan's help we shall start helping others
There are no membership fees or fees for our help.
Aims of DPS Toowoomba we will help other Genealogists and Family Historians to use Computers in order to further their Research.
