The journey begins...

Welcome to our adoption journey.  We created this site to chronicle our journey to adopt our daughter Mia from China.  Close friends of ours brought their daughter home from China in August 2004.  After seeing their beautiful daughter and sharing in the experience with them, it wasn't long before we looked into adoption for ourselves.

After deciding to adopt there wasn't much for us to do but wait.  The age restrictions for adopting in China require both parents to be 30.  Since I didn't turn 30 for another year it gave us time to alter our small home to accommodate our new addition.  We told the family of our intent to adopt at Christmas-time and then the plans for altering our home began to take shape.  In June we broke ground and began our addition.  We are just now completing the home adjustments as I write this in January 2006.

We have no biological children of our own, just our fury kids.  We have a 4 yr. old boxer named Foster and a rescue boxer Cindy Lou that we adopted last June.  In fact before we decided to adopt we had pretty much abandoned the idea of having our own children.  Our careers and schooling seemed to take precedant over children.  At this time we are content and super excited about becoming parents.

As I write this in January we are well on our way.  Our agency let me begin the paperchase in June of 2005 figuring that by the time I obtained all the necessary documents required for adoption, I would meet the age requirement.  This was true!  The paperchase took approx. 6 months and our paperwork has been successfully logged in as of January 23rd.

Update: Wow after reading this old website that I had started at the beginning of our adoption journey it seems like a reaaaaly long time!  At this stage of the game we are excitedly awaiting our referral...which as we have been told, may be arriving between July 4 and July12th.  The word journey takes on a whole new meaning when three years later we have truly experienced a roller coaster ride of emotions in our pursuit to adopt.
