I began martial arts training in 1981 in Shorin Kempo. In 1983 I started studying the classical Japanese Jujutsu style Tenshin Shintai Ryu, which I continued to study until my Sensei left the country in 1989. I was exposed to Kali in 1991 by two JKD practitioners at a seminar and I knew that this art was what I was looking for. I started my formal study of Cabales Serrada Eskrima, Largo Mano Eskrima, De Kadena Arnis, and Numerado Arnis under Guro Bruce Juchnik (an early student of Manong Guro Angel Cabales) in 1992. I attained the rank of Lakan Guro from him in 1994. Also in 1994 I started studying Kalasag Kuntao-Silat, Kuntao Silat de Thouars, and Pentjak Silat Perisai Setia under Tuhon/Tuan Roberto Torres.
After several years I continued my study of Kuntao Silat de Thouars directly under Bapak Willem de Thouars, attaining the rank of Guru and Sifu in Kuntao Silat de Thouars on
I had the good fortune of meeting Mr. Jack Bernard and beginning my training in Pekiti Tirsia in January of 2001, which also corresponded to a new round of Fishkill seminars – where I was again fortunate to be able to meet and train under Tuhon Bill McGrath on a monthly basis. I was promoted to Guro Delawa on
I have also been practicing the art of Qi Lin Pai Quan Fa since 1995, and most recently I have had the very good fortune of being able to study Xing Yi Quan and Ba Gua Zhang.
On the healing arts end of things I graduated from the Muscular Therapy Institute as a Massage Therapist in June 2003, and have been studying Zheng Gu Tui Na on an ongoing basis with Tom Bisio and Frank Butler since January of 2005.
