Are You Under 21 and Licensed?

To attract younger hams, the PRC now offers free membership to any licensed ham under age 21.  New members must be under 21 on the date that they apply for membership.  For renewals the member must be under 21 on January 1 of the renewal year.  Younger members can bring energy and enthusiasm to the club and challenge us old geezers to not be so lazy and lethargic, and they can benefit from the experience and wisdom of the old timers.

The Parma Radio Club is an ARRL affiliated club that has proudly served hams in the Cleveland area since 1948. Informal surveys suggest that, of the many clubs in this area, the P.R.C. might very well have the highest percentage of meeting attendance and club participation. We feel this is the result of the club's many interesting activities.

The club has participated in the ARRL Field Day every year since the 1950's. In recent years we have set up two separated Field Day operations. One is highly competitive and placed third in the country in 1998. The other operation is just for fun and provides training for the rising stars in contesting.

For the last couple of years we have tried our hand at a multi-op station for the ARRL November Sweepstakes. We're not winners yet, but we have a great station site and we are getting better.

Many of our members are home brewers who often demonstrate their skills and show off their latest projects at our meetings, including at our annual "home brew night." From time to time, a few members form a special interest group (SIG) to work on a particular home brew project. The latest is a QRP transceiver.

It's not always shop talk and technical stuff though. We have been known to just relax and just socialize at our year end holiday party. We also have Summer picnics where we set up a station in the park. It's sort of a mini-Field Day.

Parma Radio Club nets meet once a week on 2m and 10m. It's where you can get the latest club news and have lively discussions that range from the highly technical to frivolous. Everyone is welcome to check in. You do not need to be a member of the club to participate.

The monthly "Parma Radio Club Newsletter" is now on line at the club's WEB site where it is available to everyone, members and nonmembers. Members who are on line receive an E-mail to inform them when each new issue is published. However, we still use "snail mail" for those who are not yet on line or prefer a printed copy.

The Club meets regularly twice a month and our meetings are open to anyone interested in amateur radio. Our meetingsand nets are open to all. Check into one of our nets and say hello or pay us a visit at one of our meetings. We'd like you to join us.
