    About us: Vunraksha is a non-government conservation organization for the care of forests & wildlife. Constituted in 1999, it has its base in the tiger state of Madhya Pradesh in India. Being in close proximity to the Bandhavgarh & Kanha national parks, Vanraksha is focusing on conservation activities in and around these parks. The society presently has a very small core constituted of a few individuals committed to the cause of conservation, but welcomes networking & collaborations with other organizations / individuals.

    Vunraksha is registered under the MP Societies' Registration Act, 1973 bearing registration no JJ-4207, dated 24-4-99.

    Our Activities: In active collaboration with Tiger Awareness - a British charity engaged in Tiger conservation in India, we are involved in the following activities for villages and local communities in and around Bandhavgarh tiger reserve:

    • Conducting medical camps for local villages.
    • Distributing school uniforms / shoes / sports' equipment for school children in various villages.
    • Distributing kits to the beat guards / forest guards of Bandhavgarh national park.
    • Operating a compensation scheme for village cattle killed by tigers outside the national park.
    • Providing funding / management support to select Forest Protection Communities constituted of local communities.

    Objectives: The main objective of Vunraksha is to carry out works related to improvement of ecology, environment, habitats etc including works related to the following specific areas;

    • Preparation & implementation of schemes & projects related to Wildlife Preservation & Conservation.

    • Enlisting peoples’ participation and support for conservation of forests and wildlife.

    • Launching awareness campaigns through various media to carry the message of nature conservation to the general public, especially those living in and around the national parks, sanctuaries and other forest areas.

    • Production & distribution / dissemination of print, film, video and audio material, to aid the conservation effort of the Society.

    • Assisting the department of Forests and other such Government departments / NGO’s in conducting research, field studies and preparing data bank in areas related to conservation of forests & wildlife.

    • Arranging seminars, lectures, conferences, study tours, film shows etc to encourage peoples’ participation in the conservation effort of the Society in particular, & government in general.

    • To create a fund through donations, membership fees, and grants etc, for the implementation of the Society's projects and plans.
