Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

After suffering the loss of my Saffi, it took less than a month before I found Wally to rescue
from a kill shelter. He was a wild man. Abused. Just needing someone
to understand. At first I couldn't even walk him 1/2 a block because
he would pull so hard on the leash he would be on his back legs, wanting
to chase every squirrel or dog he saw. After a short amount of time he
realized he was safe, and settled into the best babysitter around. He took
care of all the puppies and the kids. Anyone could lay on him or walk him
or chew on him (puppies) and he would lay there as patient as could be.
A sudden illness overtook him, and the vet told us he had dilated
cariodmyopathy. She said we might get one more year with him. Less than
7 days later he was gone. He came in the middle of the night to my side
and was gone. He will be forever loved and missed. We will carry on
his legacy by always remaining active in rescue, and will love him always.

My first Great Dane that made me love the breed beyond comparison.
I bought her from a BYB before I knew any better. I planned on getting a
black one, but then this little girl stuck her nose up and picked me.
And it was love at first snuggle!
Her life with me was short, as she died the day after my son's
6th birthday from severe spinal degeneration. The vet said he had
never seen anything so severe, especially in such a young dog.
She was the biggest and most gentle girl. I remember babysitting my friend's
2 year old son, and he didn't even stand as tall as her shoulder and she let him
carry her leash and walk her around the block, looking back to make sure he
was keeping up ok.
Her memory lives on in all of my Danes, if it wasn't for her I would never had them.
