I saw your question about the e-book rights and converting you work to a Kindle edition on the PA board.

I am unable to post on the board, so I'll try to shed some light here! ;)

Please check your contract first to make sure they are actually in possession of the e-book rights of your work.

If not, then they are out of line charging you 99.00 to "convert" your file to a Kindle edition.

Other publishers don't charge their writers a cent for doing e-versions of their books. Certainly none of mine have!

All other publishers that I've dealt with don't charge for any part of the publication process. I've noticed that PA does. If not an outright 99.00 "conversion" thing, then asking writers to buy so many copies to get their books status on Amazon changed to "available" rather than "temporarily out of stock."

They may not charge an "upfront" cost, but they do make up for it getting writers to buy their own books!

If you ever decide that PA is no longer a good fit for you as a writer, you might consider checking out alternative publishers. Don't go looking for them online. Vanity operations all have websites up now and can no more get your books into stores than PA.

The best option is to go into a store, find books similar to yours, and check out those publishers. That's how I sold my first novel back in the day.

Like you, I'm interested in Kindle as a sales option, but at present I've no backlist of titles freed up to try it.

Usually the big money makers are established writers like Lee Goldberg and J. A. Konrath. Both have a long backlist and a wide fan base established by their print book sales. You may find that without those two factors as a part of your platform, that Kindle sales will be disappointing.

You may want to check out Mr. Goldberg's blog about Kindle editions, as he knows a lot more about it than I do! Here's a link to his blogs on Kindle sales. Be sure to check the comments from other writers!

I hope this helps!

Cheers from another scribbler!

I see you are 5 over replacement, which hurts the environment. I wrote most of chapter 29 of "Immigration's Unarmed Invasion: Deadly Consequences" as a volunteer in 2004. It is also an environmental/medical thriller, but NOT fiction.
Good luck with your book. Cussler is taking on more co-authors........$$$$$$$$

I saw your post on PublishAmerica twitter. I am also a PubliahsAmerica author.

Because of all the buzz about Amazon turning off the Buy Buttons on books not published by their BookSurge
I have started a website for Independent Authors. Please check out
I would be glad to list your book.
