Knox |
|
… MATCH REPORT … In ideal conditions we were able to once again play some great team football. We started extremely well and kicked four goals very early on in the game. After the early onslaught, the goals dried up as Knox’s defense kept us out numerous times. We did all of the attacking for the game and ended up kicking six goals to Knox’s one. Our captains for the day Josh Liddle & Ben Riddle got a lot of the ball and both played solid games. The pleasing aspect of today’s game was the continual improvement from all of the boys. Well done! |

Round 6 |

Vermont |
Vs |
Forest Hill |
|
… MATCH REPORT … This
week we had the short trip to Forest Hill for the local Ashley
Keeton played a great game in defence & took on the role as the
sides designated kicker. As a result the team did not concede one goal
from kicking either down the middle or across goal, for the first time
this season! Raymond
Toole continued his fine form, as did Yusuf Aly and Jack Robinson
produced a superb display in the ruck. Bailey Mayne did well in defence
& Mitchell Savage was fantastic getting a few kicks and a knock on.
Brandon Battaglia managed to get in to the action on his wing. The
boys need to concentrate on defensive accountability. Until our
defenders learn to stay on their opponents & provide a contest, we
will not be competitive against more experienced sides. Next
week we host the Lighting Premiers Norwood Purple, who are playing in D
division! I
would like to thank our parents who have supported the team in a
positive fashion & not indulged in the screaming histrionics of some
of our opponents. Most of our boy’s have only played 6 games and in
some cases they are playing boys as experienced as our Purple team.
There is no quick fix. The boy’s need time to develop. |

Round 6 |
Played at Livingstone |
Vermont |
Vs |
Wantirna Sth |
|
… MATCH REPORT … This
week we played at home against Wantirna South, a team that in the past
had caused us a few problems. Sam became the first of the boys who have
come through from under 9’s, to play 50 games. There will be many more
to follow over the next few weeks. Sam and Scott were appointed captains
for the day. Both boys played really well. We won the toss and elected
to kick to the northern end. Sam
started off in the ruck with help in the centre from James, Shehan and
Dan Ryan. These boys did a great job and got the ball forward where Ryan
Phillips, Alex and Ned were providing a real contest and showing
excellent skills. Ned was full of run all day and showed us all how to
play good footy by relentlessly chasing down the ball. Ryan kicked our
only goal for the quarter into the wind. Meanwhile our defence led by
Luke, Zac, Dan Batten and Scott really made it tough for the opposition
and kept them to two goals for the quarter. At this stage it was the
basics that were letting us down – things like playing in front,
working together, and being first to the ball. At quarter time I asked
for a big effort to play as a team and get the basics right for the rest
of the game. The
second quarter was a low scoring affair for both teams who were at this
stage evenly matched. Zac, Shehan and Ned led the way in the centre,
running hard and chasing the ball. Unfortunately Dan Ryan copped a knock
and couldn’t have his usual influence on the game. Sam, Luke and Ben
Scott battled hard when the ball got into our forward line. It was the
back line though of Harry, Johnathan, Konrad, Liam, Michael and Jordan
who really did well to keep Wantirna goalless. The
third quarter was another tight one but again we worked hard, got in
first for the ball, and kept the pressure on the opposition by tackling
hard. Michael, Harry and Liam especially played well this quarter taking
marks and working hard over the ball. Ben Scott was winning in the ruck
and Jordan, Luke and Brennan took full advantage to clear the ball out
of the centre. In
the final quarter Ryan Phillips went into the ruck and with Michael,
Konrad and Scott in the centre we had a very determined group of boys in
the middle. Time and again they won it out of the centre and worked it
forward. Darcy on the wing was first in for the ball, got the free kick
and then the opposition started to lose the plot giving away silly free
kicks and 15 metre penalties. Sam, Ben Newbegin and Ben Gibson played in
front and made sure it rarely went past our half back line. |

… MATCH REPORT … Our Round 6 clash
against Wantirna South White at Wantirna Reserve was talked about at
training as being a season defining match. On a pleasant Sunday morning
weather wise we approached the game with great confidence after our
excellent performance against Lilydale last week. We welcomed back
Christian Vassis and Daniel Greenwood into the side who were both coming
back from long term injuries. Our
captain for the day was Mitchell Honeychurch. It would be fair
to say that we didn’t start well with most of the boys looking
sluggish and not switched on to the contest. We were very fortunate that
our opposition who were dominating the play were off target kicking 1.7
for the quarter. We did manage one good piece of running play which
ended up with Nick Riddle marking on the lead at full forward. He kicked
an excellent goal which bounced through. Tyson Hyams and James Dean were
very good players in the last line of defence and Mitchell Honeychurch
battled hard on a half back flank. Jordan Hemmings and Sam Bradshaw
tried very hard across the centre and were instrumental in keeping us in
the game in the first quarter. After a rev up at
quarter time the boys picked up their work rate and enthusiasm in the
second quarter and the contest became much closer. Thomas Flemming went
onto the wing and produced some very good tackles and shepherds during
the quarter. Christian Vassis came on for his first run and provided
some instant physicality around the packs. Adam Jones was creative in
the forward pocket and James Jacobson got free of his opponent to take
marks on a number of occasions. Mitchell Honeychurch kicked a wonderful
goal during the term to give us a narrow lead at half time. We also kept
our opposition scoreless in this quarter. In the third
quarter both sides were throwing everything at each other and the
pressure was immense. The tackling from the After talking
about our ability to overrun teams at three quarter time the boys put on
another fantastic performance in the last quarter. With the game there
to be won we dominated in the centre with Nick Riddle starring on the
wing and Mitchell Honeychurch playing well in the centre. Goals to
Mitchell Honeychurch, Mason Hardy, Chris Bell and Tyson Hyams (from an
excellent mark) ensured we ran out comfortable winners. We kicked 4.3 to
0.0 for the quarter. Well done boys, a tremendous fighting effort after quarter time. Two in a row. Be very proud of your effort! |

… MATCH REPORT … Today the U13’s ventured to Rowville to take on Rowville Gold, a team
that had won only one game but, as was pointed out to the players pre
game, a game that we couldn’t afford to take lightly. We welcomed our Best & Fairest player from the U12’s, Andrew
Hackett, back this week. Because of injury, Andrew has only managed ½ a
game this year and Andrew was very quickly back to his best kicking 3
goals in the first quarter and 4 for the match. Knowing that this was an opportunity to boost our percentage the
players were asked to run hard and do all the things that we have been
practicing since the pre season began. Things like working in numbers, the
running play on game, the one percenters etc. etc. and going on our first
half, this worked to a treat. The players attacked everything and provided
options all over the ground. All this started from the centre where our on
ballers, Fraser Darcy, Damon Webb, Andrew Villani, Matt McCluskey, Lachlan
MacDonald and Reece Paranihi were given first use of the ball from some
brilliant ruck work from Billy Hope & Chris Williamson. If the ball
went into our backline, it was quickly rebounded from strong play by
Brandon Perring, Jon Souter, Max Ciminelli, Liam Griffin, Liam O’Carroll
and Brad Cameron. When the ball went forward you knew that if it wasn’t
marked, Alex Kimberley, James Pritchard, Josh Cunningham and Daniel
Simpson were going to pounce on everything and at half time we held a
commanding lead 14.5.89 to nil. It was a slightly different story in the second half and you could see
that Rowville Gold were looking to “save face” and they were a
different team in the second half. Rowville applied more pressure and were
leading us to the ball and very quickly got 2 goals on the board. Whilst
we settled later in the 3rd quarter and ran the game out in the last, we
only managed another 4.9 for the game. Relatively one sided games like
this did give us the opportunity to look at how players performed in
different positions and maybe this was a factor in us not playing the same
flowing game as the first half. Nevertheless, as was told to the players
after the game…how can you complain after winning by in excess of 100
points!! All the players were fantastic today in a game that was a must win game to consolidate our position in the top 4. One interesting stat to finish with…the U13’s have managed to hold the opposition scoreless in 8 of the past 12 quarters we have played. Great effort guys.

… MATCH REPORT … What an excellent
performance from all players this week. In recent weeks we have spoken
about and been working hard on doing the hard things, tackling, chasing,
putting your head over the ball. This week that all came into play. The
first two quarters were as good as we have played so far this season,
holding Rowville to just 28pts. We made them earn every kick and made a
very good contest. Patty Iellamo was on fire kicking three goals for the
match assisted by Nick Johnson who managed two for the game. Excellent
defense led by Scotty Wrigley, Nick Mendes, Steven Kostigiannis, Lachlan
Macleod, Jack Brook, James Symes held Rowville early in the match. Alex
Greenwood, Nick Johnson, Shane Davidson, Lucas McCullough, Connor
McCafferty, worked hard all day to give some drive out of the centre and
around the ground. Luke Strachan, Mick Nee, Patrick Iellamo all worked
hard up forward providing good opportunities.
We had many players willing to contribute this week and we can see
a steady improvement weekly with our skills and how prepared we are to win
the ball. Thanks to injured
Patrick Ryan and Josh Baron for coming along to support their team mates
and run the water. Keep your heads up!!!!! |

… MATCH REPORT … We lost Sam
Williams before the game and Adam Watson was still injured, we were facing
the top team so things were not bright. We came out firing and had our
bodies over the ball and played in front, we tackled hard and ran hard
into the wind. We led at ¼ time and it was a total team effort. Special
mention to Naish up forward as he presented and played in front and was
rewarded for his effort. North Ringwood came out hard in the second and
put our backs under the pump, led by Jarryd, Mitchell, Rowan, Nick and
Darcy they kept the pressure on and ran the ball out of defense.
Unfortunately Callum Petrie received a heavy bump on his return game and
again broke his collar bone, he will be a big loss but we all wish him a
full recovery. The midfield was excellent in the first half, Jason, Harry,
Josh, Brett and Benny gave their all and matched it with a very talented
opposition. John Clifton tagged and did exactly what I asked. After
only being 21 points down after a half time the game started to open up
for North Ringwood as we lost a few with injuries and we found it hard to
match up. Kieran and Ben were given tagging rolls and performed a very
good job, Jarryd, Mitchell, Nick and Rowan continued their hard work in
defense and gave their all. We ran out of legs in the last quarter and |
