  ...viva the student soccer revolution

2006 was a good year for Lincoln football; viva futbol was born. This brand spanking new venture is the only small sided soccer league, to be supported by and run in co-operation with the University of Lincoln Athletic Union. The first step in what is hoped will develop into a thriving intra-mural sporting network viva futbol aims to make soccer both more accessible and more affordable for Lincoln students.

viva futbol aims to offer students unable to compete in the inter-university competition of the BUSA leagues a further chance to get involved in the 'Wednesday experience' of student sport. As it is run solely for students viva futbol will also coincide with the student term with an Autumn League running from October to December, and a Spring League from January through to April.

Student life can be hard financially, and viva futbol believes that sport should be a right not a privilege. A one off team joining fee of £5 and a team match fee of £12 per game entitle you to thirty-four minute competitive five-a-side matches complete with referees. You will also get regular email updates regarding fixtures results and any offers that may be of real benefit to you in your life as a Lincoln student, and not just any old forwards; no self respecting revolution would allow junk mail.

The viva futbol experience will not end on the pitch. At the end of each mini-season we have an awards night held to honour not just the winning team, but all those who have added to the viva futbol experience. And as if thats not enough there are other social events for viva futbol members and teams during the year including the now legendary viva futbol quiz night.

Last year twenty-five different teams and well in advance of 200 University of Lincoln students, both male and female, took part in viva futbol. We also gave out over 120 trophies at two awards nights and held a successful inter-team social event in the Engine Shed. Deadline for team entries for the 2007 Autumn Leagues is 5pm Friday 29th September, all teams are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
