I've gotten emails from a few people wondering what happened to the updates on this site...
Well, this site is supposed to be following Vince on his quest to make the top ten. The only news he is making these days in regards to tennis is his losing record. How many first round losses in a row is it now? I've lost count. Because of this, there's no need to document the past month or two or three.
So yeah, until Vince wins a match, I'm not updating.

Is Vince trying to break his own record of twenty one losses in a row on the ATP? We know he has been aiming for the top ten, but his current match results suggest he is more likely to accomplish the former. He's already strung together a few losses these past two weeks losing to Albert Costa (ESP) (who he obviously felt bad for as the veteran was playing in his last tournament before retiring from the circuit) and today to top ten player Nikolay Davydenko (RUS) in a tight match 7-6 (3), 6-3.
And speaking of Russians, it would be a crime for any tennis fan not to read Dmitry Turnsunov's ATP player blog from Estoril. This guy is absolutely nuts, but in a very good way. He's hilarious throughout the entire blog, but his account of a practice session with Vince is particularly amusing:
"My first hit is with Vince Spadea! Arguably the best rapper on the circuit!
Probably because he is the only one who tries it and everyone is too
tired of asking him not to. So we just let him do it. We start off by
throwing rhymes at each other and after I out-battle-rap him he asks
for 2 out of 3. “Time to hit!” – I said and we started. Nothing too
hard! We are very fragile, finely tuned machines so killing ourselves
in a warm-up is not our style! After we warm up we play some points
and… the result is really not so important! The important thing is that
we enjoyed it! So, I lost… I hate clay!!!..." --Funny man Dimitry Turnsunov of Russia, giving Vince a run for his money as the tour's newest comedian and promising rapper! http://www.atptennis.com
Even if Vince's rapping had not been mentioned it, would have been great. There are only two entries so far and they may be long but seriously, they are SO worth the read. Check it out!
Oh, and apparently Vince has a new coach?! This is the first week Vince has been working with Patricio Rodriguez, who previously coached 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Nicholas Massu (CHI). Perhaps this is the change he needs to take the next step in his tennis career. We'll see...

Yeah, the winning trend didn't continue. Maybe Vince decided it wasn't that fun? Vince ended up losing to Mardy Fish in the next round. Mardy has been on a roll these past fews weeks, and Vince obviously didn't want to mess him up by beating him-- what a nice guy. And as a resulf of Vince's immense generosity, Mardy went on the win the entire tournament. So yeah, be happy for Mardy.
Next up for Vince is Open Seat Barcelona, and he is already there practicing for his DOMINATION of the field next week. Maybe.

April 13, 2006
It's been a LONG TIME since I've updated... To catch up on Vince's results: He beat Donald Young in the second round of Houston, but due to a "sore elbow," was forced to retire in the next round.
The U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships on Monday. He played Carlos Berlocq and the score was similar to that when Vince beat him at Indian Wells last month (6-1, 6-3), though Berlocq didn't have to retire this time. He also played some doubles this week..but let's not go into those scores...haha.
Today, Vince played Marcos Baghdatis and moved on to the next round with a retirement. Poor Marcos. Vince will play fellow American Mardy Fish tomorrow in the third round.
::
April 3, 2006
River Oaks International better watch out....because here comes Vince! The Houston tournament begins today, but as the number eight seed, Vince has a bye in the first round. He will take on (and DESTROY) the winner of the Donald Young/Hugo Armando match which takes place today.

March 26, 2006
What happened, Vince? Come on, what better way to start out a match than to win the first set 6-1, and go up an early break in the second? Maybe if the first had been a bagel set..who knows. Anyway, Verdasco broke back and won the second and eventually the match with a score of 1-6, 6-4, 6-3.
We all know that Vince, being the kind and generous person he is, let James be the first of the previously lower ranked Americans to reach the top ten. Now, he purposely wasted his chances in his match against Verdasco. Why, you ask? Well, had Vince won this match, his third round opponent would have been Andy Roddick. Andy has been having some confidence and/or mental issues of his own recently, and if Vince would have beaten him, can you imagine how quickly Andy's confidence would drop? Vince is just being the nice guy, once again, but sooner or later, he's going to have to start thinking about himself, no? hahaaa...
Vince and his hat and his hair was ESPN2's "Shot of the Day" yesterday. I think Mary Carillo has a new crush...

March 25, 2006
The rain followed Vince from Indian Wells to Miami, and for the second week in a row, he had to deal with rain delays during his first round match. Fortunately, the outcome of the match was the same. Vince did not allow the rain to upset his play and a couple of rain delays later, he beat Andreas Seppi (ITA) 6-1, 6-4.
Vince's match today is scheduled as the last match on the Grandstand court. He will take on Fernando Verdaso (ESP)...and there is no way Vince will let a Spaniard beat him in the second round two weeks in a row...RIGHT?
Vince hasn't lost a tennis match yet this week, but he did lose some other things...
Spadea snoozes, loses personal property
By Charles Bricker South Florida Sun-Sentinel
KEY BISCAYNE · Vince
Spadea has slept through a few tennis seasons in his 14-year career, so
it wasn't surprising that he would sleep through a burglary in his
hotel room Wednesday night in which thieves apparently pried open a
sliding door, stole his computer, iPod, several CDs and the new shoes
he intended to use at the Nasdaq.
"I
swear I slept through the whole thing. I'm not making this up. I got up
to go to the bathroom at 3:30 in the morning and decided to check my
messages when I realized my computer wasn't there," said the longtime
Boca Raton resident.
"Then I felt this
intense breeze coming through the room. I had this eerie feeling
throughout my body. I was thinking, `Am I sleepwalking or something?'"
Spadea
was staying in a fifth-floor pool deck room at the Biscayne Bay
Marriott in downtown Miami. He said it took three hours to file a
report with their security. "They're writing all this down and asking
me, `Are you sure you lost it? Is it in your car?' Hey dude, I'm not
crazy. I lost $5,000 worth of merchandise and $5 million worth of phone
numbers."
Perhaps worst of all, said Spadea, "I lost 21 hot rap
tracks that are coming out on my new album. I'm going to have to
reinvent them." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports...

The Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami is next up for Vinnay and just about every other ATP player. The draw is out and Vince is scheduled to play Andres Seppi (ITA) in the first round. He's in Roddick's quarter of the draw but that doesn't mean much these days...
Once again, Vince needs to step it up this week. James Blake cracked the top ten this week (YAY) with a run to the finals at Indian Wells. There are currently three Americans in the top ten, and Vince is not one of them...yet.
Oh, and DUDE. Check out the Random Stuff page, like, immediately.
There really isn't much else to say after watching these.

March 14, 2006
I think I have some major catching up to do....so here's a quick recap:
Vince played his first round match on Saturday. Apparently, his feet were sore because of his new shoes and his opponent was not feeling his best either. Vince came out onto Court 5 not looking too happy about playing with the rain coming, and was forced to stop after only three points because of the awful weather. I missed the rest of the match, but he wwas up 6-1, 4-1 when his opponent Carlos Berlocq (ARG) retired.
There had been horrible weather on Saturday with the rain and cold and wind (which is almost unimaginable for the usually extremely warm Palm Springs weather) and the night session was completely rained out. The weather on Sunday was extremely cold and windy but there was no rain, or at least not enough to stop matches.
Vince practiced Sunday afternoon wearing his 'Spadea' jacket and orange rhinestoned 'Spadea' hat...quite an interesting look. His second round match against Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP) was in the evening and it was FREEZING outside. The first set was pretty bad, and Vince was clearly frustrated and took it out on his raquet...lol. He played much cleaner in the second to win it 6-4, and though he led in the third set, he was not able to hold on and lost it in the tiebreak. It was a pretty good almost-comeback, but was just not enough.
::
March 10, 2006
Today was the first round of the men's main draw at the Pacific Life Open. Vince practiced on the grounds wearing a Nirvana shirt, and was having a good time, I have been told. No real upsets today, but a few matches got rained out and have been pushed to tomorrow. Rain in Palm Springs?! Yup. The past few years have been scorchers at this tournament and this year we get rain...crazy.
Vince's match against Carlos Berlocq (ARG) is scheduled to be first on Court 5 after at 10:00 AM start, but the weather is not looking good AT ALL. It's supposed to rain just about all day, so who knows how much tennis there will be. Of course, I picked the worst day weather-wise to go, didn't I? I'll be at the tournament tomorrow and Saturday, so I'll be able to catch a match of his for sure, and of course get some pictures and hopefully I'll have a good story to tell..lol.
::
March 8, 2006
Wow, it's been a while without an update...
The Pacific Life Open has now begun down in Palm Springs, California. Vince is in the second quarter of the draw, and will play Carlos Berlocq (ARG) in the first round. The men's main draw begins play on Friday so Vince will likely play then, but of course nothing is for sure yet. Juan Carlos Ferrero is a potential second round opponent for Vince, but with the crazy results going on everywhere, WHO KNOWS these days.

So maybe hanging out in the game room and rapping with ball kids cut into Vince's practice time this week. That, or he's rather hit the casinos than be on the court...at least that's what it seemed like to those who happened to catch Vince's match today.
According to those who saw the match on television, Vince looked like he didn't want to be on the court today. Of course, absolutely NO ONE wants to be on court long if they're losing to Paul Goldstein. And don't worry, Vince wasn't on court long at all...the score ended up being something shitty like 6-2, 6-1. I'm sorry, but that is just plain sad.
Sorry Vince, but hiding behind that little yellow tennis ball isn't working. We can still see you dude. And you are still losing...STOP IT!
::
February 28, 2006
Today Vince beat, I mean KILLED, Paul Capdeville (CHI) with a convincing 6-2, 6-3. While the other "known" American tennis players (except Mardy and James because they're cool like that) failed to win a round or even show up in Las Vegas, Vince has played his match and is comfortably into the second round. In fact, he is probably even more comfortable now knowing that his potential second round opponent Robby Ginepri was upset in his own match today. Robby losing...shocking, right?
Since Vince's match wasn't on Center Court, the television coverage did not include the wonderfulness that is Vince Spadea playing tennis. However, that did NOT stop the Tennis Channel from getting Vinnay on their cameras in one way or another. While Mardy Fish was busy winning his first singles match since July (not kidding), Vince was apparently shown "like 92385204980293 times" on TV playing air hockey and eating a sandwich in the game room. Yes, the tournament has a game room...this is Vegas afterall. Plus, the players get bored, no? So Vince played some air hockey. While he ate his sandwich. Then he was interviewed. And then he started rapping. About his sandwich. Too bad only the FIVE people who actually get the Tennis Channel got to see it. Speaking of TTC and the fact that NO ONE has it...call your local cable provider and insist that your life is not worth living without the Tennis Channel! Hey, desperate times call for desperate measures, right? Haha..
::
February 27, 2006
Vince's next tournament, the Tennis Channel Open is now underway. The tournament moved to Las Vegas this year from Scottsdale, Arizona and is already getting tons of attention. Despite Las Vegas native Andre Agassi choosing not to play and Andy Roddick, who was supposed to be the number one seed, pulling out last week, the tournament is still expected to be a big hit. Casinos, huge forehands, and Vince Spadea...what more could anyone want?!
Vince's first round opponent is qualifier Paul Capdeville (CHI). Their match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, second on court after an 11:00 AM local time start. Though there have been some late withdrawels from the tournament, there are still tons of high profile players...but who needs 'em anyway? Vince Spadea is in Vegas and is ready to entertain!
::
February 23, 2006
Vince was looking for some revenge today against Tommy, and for a while it actually seemed possible. There were no breaks in the first set and Vince even had a set point in the first set tiebreaker, but couldn't convert. After that, it was all but over. At 1-2 in the second, Vince double faulted twice to get broken and then pretty much fell apart. His double faulting was clearly the death of him tonight. He had a chance to hold while down 1-4, and guess what? Yes, he double faulted. And then proceded in losing the set 1-6. Lovely.
Of course, Tommy Haas is a tough opponent, so the fact that Vince was able to hang with him for a set and even had some opportunities to win the set has to mean something. At least we hope so.
::
February 22, 2006
Vince won! He beat Bobby Reynolds today 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(2). Apparently, there was some choking going on in that last set, but hey, as long as he got the job done, it's all good.
Next up for Vince is Tommy Haas (yes, AGAIN). Vince will be looking for revenge after his not-so-competitive match against him in Delray. They'll play tomorrow on stadium court at 6:30 PM.
Vince the ever so popular guy, and his rapping skillz are clearly widely known, er, at least on the ATP. The superawesomecool Bob and Mike Bryan took over for Jon Wertheim this week answering the Sport's Illustrated Tennis Mailbag. Check out Mike's mention of Vinnay...and hope he just means that Vince is a rapping genius...or...something.
Q: A limerick to welcome you:
Two siblings named Bob and Mike Bryan Do mid-air chest bumps while they're flyin' A Grand Slam in doubles Should come without troubles And leave unrelated teams cryin! -- Doyle Srader, Nacogdoches, Texas
The next tournament up for Vince is the Morgan Keegan Championships in Memphis, which starts today. He'll take on fellow American Bobby Reynolds in the first round, likely on Wednesday. Prepare for Vince to DOMINATE.
Oh, and be sure to check out the random stuff page for something...um special.
::
February 18, 2006
Vince has been on a roll this week. He beat Kristof Vliegen (BEL) in the quarters and is set to meet Lleyton Hewitt today in the semifinals. Vince has played Lleyton this year already, but lost after being up a set. Perhaps Vince will actually be able to hold onto a lead this time...or maybe we just have to hope that Lleyton pokes his eye out with that crazy hand thing he does.
EDIT:
No such luck with the hope of Hewitt injuring himself in the celebration of a point lol. Vince was so close, yet so far, suffering ANOTHER semifinal loss, and a loss to none other than Lleyton Hewitt. The score was 3-6, 4-6 and the match was apparently of no higher quality than the scoreline suggests.
Okay, so the doubles match didn't go exactly as planned. In fact, Vince and Amer were kind of the ones being destroyed, falling in straight sets. But not to worry. Vince is still in the singles draw, and is not ready to disappoint us!
This morning, Vince beat lucky loser Travis Rettenmaier handily, with a very conVINCEing score of 6-2, 6-0. Vince is such a kind, generous guy, giving out those bagels...
::
February 13, 2006
After a tough first set, Vince came out of his first round match today a winner. He played the qualifier from Southern California Sam Querry, and beat him with a score of 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2. His next singles match will be against Travis Rettenmaier (USA), the lucky loser who took Andre's place.
Tomorrow, Vince's first round doubles match with his lovely partner Amer Delic is scheduled to take place at 4:00 PM local time. They will take on Jaroslav Levinsky (CZE) and Robert Lindstedt (SWE) and DESTROY them, right Vince?
::
February 12, 2006
I've been in La Jolla the past few days watching the United States beat the Romanians (woohoo!) I had the best time, and attending a Davis Cup tie is one for-sure way for anyone to become even more proud of their country, lol.
Anyone hear about what happened to Andy Roddick during his match on Friday? The poor guy fought till the very end, and I seriously don't know if I have ever been more proud watching someone play tennis. Even though he ended up losing, I doubt that a single person walked out of that stadium disappointed.
Vinny, of course, was not a part of the Davis Cup team, but it does not mean he wasn't missed. Yours truly made sure that in some way, shape, or form, Vince was represented...and yes, the sign got some "interesting" looks, LOL.
Vince is currently in San Jose preparing for the SAP Open, which begins tomorrow. He plays qualifier Sam Querry (USA) tommorow in the first round, and now that Agassi has withdrawn from the tournament, a potential "battle of the getting old dudes" in the second is no longer feasible, but this is good for Vince's chances of making a deep run this week. Vince has also paired with the lovely Amer Delic (USA) in doubles. They will take on the number four seeds Robert Lindstedt (SWE) and Jaroslav Levinsjy (CZE) in the first round. Match times are not yet available, but be sure to check out the television schedule.
::
February 8, 2006
It's Davis Cup week, and since Vince is not on the team, it is essentially an off-week for him. I'll be in La Jolla this weekend supporting the Americans...who's up for a supaghetto "LET VINCE PLAY!" sign. Hahahaha.
While our Davis Cup team is beating the the Romanian team (hopefully!) Vince should be in Los Angeles practicing and getting ready for his next tournament, the SAP Open in San Jose. Vince made a good run last week in Delray and I'm sure he's hoping to do the same in San Jose.
Oh and um...Happy Birthday to meeeee! lmao
Vince was all ready to be a part of the American Davis Cup team...he was even all decked out in red, white, and blue! But, he'll have to just settle for making the ATP top 10. Um, someday.
::
February 5, 2006
Vince's singles run ended abruptly last night, and Tommy Haas (GER) is to blame. "I played a lot of loose points," said Spadea. "He hit the ball better,
more consistent and was a step quicker. He's a momentum player. When
he's great, he's great." So yeah, Vince was struggling with the blustery conditions throughout the match while Haas clearly adjusted right away. How dare Tommy, having absolutely no sympathy for our poor Vince?! Well, at least the match was quick and pain...ful. Sigh.
Oh, and because rain delayed the start of matches yesterday in Delray, Vince's doubles match with Garcia-Lopez against the number three seeds Wesley Moodie (RSA) and Chris Haggared (RSA) was rescheduled for this morning. And guess what? Yes, they lost. So much for hoping Vince would at least make the top ten in doubles...
In other news....
Who wears short shorts? Vinnay does!!!
::
February 4, 2006
Yesterday Vince took out the Ginepri killer, Hyung-Taik Lee (KOR), easily in singles with a score of 6-3, 6-3:
Lee, who won only one point on Spadea's serve in the first set, had
beaten Spadea in two previous matches. "My return was good today," said
Spadea "I've lost to [Lee] twice but this was a good sign to me that my
game is improving.. I'm hitting the ball close to or as good as ever.
This was the best I've served this week."
The local Boca
Raton product won for the 10th time in his last 12 matches in Delray
Beach. "I try to rise to this occasion here in Delray," said 31-year-old Spadea. "It would be a dream if I could win this." http://www.atptennis.com...asp
Vince and Garcia-Lopez, his doubles partner, also beat Andrei Pavel (ROM) and Razvan Sabau (ROM) in straights yesterday. Is this demolition of Romanians by Vince perhaps a message to United States Davis Cup Captain Patrick McEnroe? We'll see next week...
Vince KICKED ASS today! He beat Robert Kendrick 6-4, 6-1 and is into his
first quarterfinal of the year...aren't you all excited? Two matches in a row, Vince has won. Can he keep it up?
Our man will play Lee, who took out Robby "Blobby" Ginepri in the first round. The match will be on Center Court with a 12:30 PM local time start.
Tomorrow will be a busy day as Vince is scheduled to play doubles as well. He and Garcia-Lopez will take on Andrei Pavel and Razvan Sabau (ROM).
Vince Spadea found his game
following a brief rain delay, Gilles Muller reached his second
quarter of the year and Hyung-Taik Lee reached the Delray Beach
quarters for the second time.
Spadea was
able to convert only one of nine break points in the first set against
American qualifier Robert Kendrick, and a brief rain delay seemed to
help him get back on track.
"I had seven break
points and felt I was playing well and I should have been up a break
but I found myself at 4-4. After the rain delay I
stepped up my shots and kept him off the baseline."
The
31-year-old from nearby Boca Raton has now reached the quarterfinals or
better four times in this tournament. He was a 2004 finalist and
reached the semifinals a year ago.

Happy February!
Um, Random Fact According to Me: If your birthday happens to fall in the month of February, then it is your birthday all month long, starting today. I suppose one could apply this for every month of the year, but it's especially true for this month...why? Because I say so, that's why. :p
In actual tennis news... Vince is scheduled to play qualifier Robert Kendrick on Center Court tomorrow, not before 5:30 PM. Spadea's Gladiators are expected to show up again in full cheering mode!
Today, Vince
and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) pulled an upset beating number two
seeds Jordan Kerr and Travis Parrott 6-2, 6-4 in doubles. I'm
starting to wonder if Vince meant that he would reach the top ten in
the doubles rankings when he made that guarantee...haha.
The "random stuff" page has been updated with a little something something...lol.

Vinnay chung'd Wang!
Wow, for a while there I thought Vince was going to try and break his own ATP record of matches lost in a row. Thankfully, the losing streak ended tonight with his win over Jimmy Wang with a convincing score of 6-1, 6-1...in the second two sets. Yes, Vince lost the first 5-7, but that was just warm-up or something!
The match was actually moved to the Center Court as the first few matches of the night had gone quickly, and it sounds like Spadea's "Gladiators" did some good cheering on our man in the stadium even late into the night!
So Vince has won a match...WHAT NOW, HATAS?!
::
January 30, 2006
Vince's weekend have been filled with practice sessions against top players, including one against Tommy Haas (GER) on Sunday.
Getting back to facts...Vince is scheduled to play today on Court 1 against 'Jimmy' Wang. They will be the third match on court after a 5:30 PM start (local time).
He has also teamed up with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP) in doubles and they will take on second seeds Jordan Kerr (AUS) and Travis Parrott (USA). The date and time for this first round clash is not yet available, though it should take place sometime Tuesday.
.
Vince "the killa" Spadea follows through after a winning backhand against Tommy Haas. Yes, a backhand winner. And yes, against THE Tommy Haas. Vince is ready to kick some bootay this week and you all better believe it's going to happen. Well....someday.

January 28, 2006
The Delray draw is official: Vince plays Yeu-Tzoo Wang (also known as 'Jimmy Wang' on the circuit) in the first round.
Vince has been practicing well these past week days so if he can't get past Wang in the first round...then I don't know what to say. But we shouldn't be worried...Vince has been putting in a lot of work (and apparently a lot of sweat!) to get back on the top of his game. During practice, he's even been working the lime green official shirt of his "Gladiators," who will be making their debut at Delray next week. Check out Vince's official site for more information.
Vince is
going to be on the prowl next week to get his first wins of the season,
so all players in his path: BEWARE!

January 27, 2006
There was some exciting news buzzing around the Delray Beach Tennis Center today. And no, Vince had not shown up to the courts in a Hrbaty-esque pink shirt or anything like that, thank you very much.
Actually, the place was buzzing with word that Andy Roddick wanted to play in the tournament. He'd have to qualify though, and since Andy is having a bit of a problem with confidence lately, can you imagine what would happen if he didn't make it through qualifying?! So, Andy never committed to the idea after all, and since much of the media actually publicized Andy as if he had decided to qualify, everything was somewhat of a huge misunderstanding. What does this have to do with Vince, you ask? Well, while in Delray today and supposedly contemplating the idea of playing the qualifying tournament, Andy practiced with Vince, but soon became frustrated with Vince's superb play (oh, and the unbelievably windy conditions too).
Hopefully this all means Vince is playing some damn good tennis, and that it will be a successful week for him next week in Delray. He has not won a match this year (not including qualifying) after all and I hate to break it to ya, Vinny, but the top ten is not getting any closer with those results.
The main singles draw should be out tomorrow so we can have a look who Vince is going to have the chance to DESTROY on his way to another title. Hahahaa.
Of course, our ever-so-popular Vince was mentioned and even quoted in a South Florida Sun-Sentinel article about Andy, qualifying, and the like:
Spadea, 31, who is mounting yet another comeback, had to make it
through qualifiers to get into the main draw at Sydney two weeks ago
before losing to Lleyton Hewitt in the first round.
"Playing two matches in one day is challenging," Spadea said. "This is
something that's out of this tennis world. It's unbelievable and at the
same time Roddick is unbelievable in a lot of great ways." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...
::
January 25, 2006
Delray Beach is next up for Vince. He should be in Florida soon to prepare for the event. Actually, he BETTER be there soon and he BETTER be practicing hard, because those first round matches aren't gonna win themselves. Heh.
An article from The Age about weird rituals and habits of tennis players mentions Vince:
Vince Spadea told USA Today that he sprays himself with two
shots of cologne before heading on to court. But only two. "If I have
Calvin Klein smelling up the joint, I don't feel so intense," said the
American, who will switch scents should he find himself trapped in a
losing streak.
So is it time to switch scents?
Here's Vince looking spiffy in his shades, his bling and of course, his "secret" scent. Forget the nicknames VinDawg, Vitty Cent, whatever-- just call him VinScent. Word.
Check out the 'random stuff' page for another (hilarious!) picture of Vince and his secret scent.

JUST KIDDING. Apparently Vince has withdrawn from the Waikoloa Challenger with a back injury???
To the left is Mani's awesome drawing of the Gangsta VinDawg which has absolutely nothing to do with the Waikoloa Challenger, but perhaps everything to do with why he injured his back last night...

January 22, 2006
Vince and Dick Norman lost in the second round with a bagel in the third, which is disappointing considering they had taken out a top seed and then lost to nobodies. Okay, Christophe Rochus and Stanislas Wawrinka aren't exactly nobodies, and they didn't play like nobodies beating the gangsta duo of Vince and Dick 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-0. By the way, did anyone catch Dick Norman playing singles in a pink shirt with a matching pink headband? I hope he and Vince weren't playing in matching outfits on the doubles court..
Also, in case anyone cares, the Australian Open has not been a good tournament for Americans at all as the last of the American men, Andy Roddick (WTF) lost last night in the fourth round. So Vince's first round exit isn't that bad. Okay, maybe it still is.
In news that does not have to do with losing, Vince's book is now availiable for ordering...expect sales to sky-rocket and for the book to top the bestsellers lists!! Heh. But yeah, order it today.
Andy looking dejected after his fourth round loss at the Australian Open. We still love you Andy, but you have to have better results than this if you don't want Vince to replace you in the top ten!
::
January 17, 2005
Despite his lost in the first round of the singles draw, Vince is still in Mebourne competing in the men's doubles tournament with partner Dick Norman of Belgium. They play noumber three seeds Mark Knowles (BAH) and Daniel Nestor (CAN) in the first round, however so it will definitely be a tough match. Let's see if Vince can get past the first round for SOMETHING this year.
EDIT:
VINCE WON! He actually got past the first round of a tournament for the first time this year! He and Norman won in a tight two setter 6-4, 7-6(4) upsetting the number three seeds. So, his fans wonder, does Vince mean that he guarantees to reach the top ten in the DOUBLES rankings??? heh.
January 17-Vincespadea.com is pleased to announce that Vince will be blogging on Tennis Magazine's Tennis.com blog website called SMASHtennismag.com. For the latest of Vince's messages..click on the logo and have some fun with Vince!

Welcome back to the best 5 minutes of your life—Vince’s blog, giving you a look into the life of tennis player.
As I arrive in Sydney, it’s an amazing city. There’s great weather, the
Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi Beach, Kings Cross, and, of course,
Darling Harbour, where all the players are staying. It’s a sweet hotel
in the middle of the city with lots to do—shopping, restaurants,
nightlife, an Imax theater, and STARBUCKS. A man has his needs. Caramel
Frap anybody?
The
lobby of Darling Harbour looks like a player’s lounge. Justine
Henin-Hardenne walking around like a humble youth, you wouldn’t notice
she’s won several slammers. Martina Hingis is looking excited and
smiling like her old self. King Carlos Moya and Juan Carlos Ferrero
were just chilling with the rest of their Spanish teamsters. Anastasia
Myskina was looking all stylish with her pink shoes and top neutralized
by her designer jeans. The French World is in effect with Sebastian
Grosjean and Amelie Mauresmo playing cards every night in the lobby
before dinner.
I’m not a card guy. I like moving around checking stuff out. To each
his own, right? The tennis in Sydney is played at the Olympic complex.
I remember it well from when I had the honor to play for the USA in
2000. I played Pat Rafter on Center Court. This year I played Lleyton
Hewitt. I can’t get away from these rockstar Australian tennis players.
I almost won too, after taking the first set, but I came up short.
However, I feel good going into the Aussie Open, I’m hitting well.
Lleyton had the newborn out with his wife and sister supporting. I saw
them driving in a H2 Hummer—rolling in style after beating Spadea… I
see how it is. Nicole Vaidisova made her appearance, and brought her
long legs with her. I don’t think she’ll need to stop for directions to
the Top 10 by June.
I also saw Roddick on TV playing in Kooyong exhibition against Gael
Monfils, the newest French connection. He’s got the buckwheat hairdo,
which looks pretty cool. He’s taking over where James Blake left off.
Speaking of James, I’ve seen him hangin’ and banging the tennis ball
around. He’s got the fire in his eyes. Lets hope to see more of that,
especially with Davis Cup coming soon against Romania (Check out
TENNIS.com for live coverage. Sorry for the shameless plug – The
Editor).
That sums up everything the naked eye can see in this heat and wind. I
hope everyone is rooting for the right guy to win the Australian…
me—lol. But the right guy is really Federer (shocker). If you pick him
to win, you’ll be right.
Have a great day. Spadea is here to stay, no way? Way!! Peace.
Guess what. No seriously, you'll never get this one: Vince lost in the first round. Again.
The match started off looking good for Vince but after the first set, it was all downhill with Santoro winning 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-3.

After an 11:00 AM local start time, Vince is scheduled to play Santoro third on Court 21. And yes, Court 21 is the very last court. *insert ROTFL smiley here..I mean, what?* Sorry Vince, but you've got a long way to go till the top ten, and this doesn't make it any better.
These are some of the best tennis related blogs around, and they are run by awesome people who love Vince Spadea whether they admit it or not. Both blogs are frequently updated and are really funny so go check them out!
Vince is currently in Melbourne practicing his hawt ass off for the first major of the year, the Australian Open which starts on Monday (Sunday, for those in the US). The draw came out today and Vince is scheduled to play Fabrice Santoro (FRA) in the first round. I don't think anyone is happy to see a player like Fabrice on their side of the draw because while he is a fun player to watch, he drives him opponents mad with hthe crazy spin on his shots. Vince is going to have a lot to prove as the last time they played was only a few months ago, and Fabrice beat him pretty badly.

What a match. On paper, it looked as if Vince was going to be off the court in 45 minutes but then he shocked just about every one by taking the first set from Hewitt 6-2. Lleyton was playing HORRIFICALLY and Vince played HORRIFICALLY well. And then that all ended. The second set was close but Lleyton finally took it. Vince had plenty of chances and apparently Lleyton even had some sort of stomach problems, but I guess he "felt better" during the third set as he won it, and the match. The final score was 6-2, 5-7, 3-6. Yeah Vince, that's how we feel about you losing too. ............ The good thing is that Vince proved he can hang with the top players, and that maybe the idea of him reaching the top ten isn't that far-fetched as of now..he just needs to step it up at the AO.
Still, this is the second week in a row that Vince has been sent home packing in the very first round. How HORRIFIC. Anyways, the AO in Melbourne is next up.

There were four potential first round opponents that Vince could have drawn having qualified for the main tournament: Lleyton Hewitt, Taylor Dent, Kristof Vliegen, or Victor Hanescu. And of course, he drew Hewitt. Heh. I guess we can just hope for a major upset if we don't want Vince packing his bags after another first round exit. Click here for the entire draw.
The tournament begins tomorrow and Vince is scheduled to play third on Centre Court with an 11am start. (There is a link for world time zones on the home page for calculating time differences, by the way.) So, the match will probably begin about 8pm US Pacific time tonight. Live scoring is availiable on the Medibank International website.

In the second round of qualifying, Vince practically DESTROYED Noam Okun (ISR) 6-3 6-1. Poor Noam..I actually like him. And it may or may not have been at a Noam qualifying match where I first saw Vince. sigh.
Marc Kimmich (AUS) will be his opponent in the third round of qualifying.
EDIT: Vince beat Kimmich 6-2, 6-1 and is now qualified for the main tournament! WOOT.

So apparently Vince pulled out of Auckland and is in Sydney instead. He is playing the Medibank International qualifying tournament and beat beat Pless (WHO) in two sets.

To the left is a getty photo from yesterday's match. Despite the loss, Vince was pimpin' in Polo. HAWT.
So yeah, Vince lost first round, and the hatas are already on his back. "How is he gonna make the top ten losing in the first round like that?" thay say. The Vinnay fan girl/boy excuse? Maybe our guy felt a little bad playing Flip, who is looking for a comeback himself. So, we can forgive him this time for taking this first round exit.
Next on the calendar for Vince is Auckland, where he is scheduled to play in the HeinekenOpen. The player list was announced today and includes the defending champion Fernando Gonzalez.

It is only the first tournament of the entire tennis season, but Vince's quest for making it to the top ten this year was already looking a little grim for his fans when he went out in the first round to Mark Philippousis today at Adelaide International. The finals score was 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
Scud in winning return
Mark Philippoussis returned to the Australian circuit with a three-set
victory over American Vince Spadea at the Adelaide International on
Tuesday.
Philippoussis took just over two hours to advanced to the second round with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win.
In other results Croatia's Ivo Karlovic eighth seed Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Florian Mayer of Germany beat Juan Monaco of Argentina 6-2, 6-4 while
Andreas Seppi of Italy beat Boris Pasanski of Serbia and Montenegro
6-4, 6-4.
Top seed Lleyton Hewitt hits the centre court tonight against

YoYoYo, Vince Spadea fanboys and girls!
This
is the first update in the history of this lovely little website and
since it's still the offseason, there is not much at all to say. For
those who are a little behind in the times, check out Vince's interview
with Tennis Week where he discusses his book Break Point, among other things.
