Up-to-Date trail conditions for Speculator , NY

December 12,  - Now we are in Business!

The main corridor trails located in Perkins are rideable w/ 1 - 2" base. There are rocks that you will hit so go at a slow pace. All secondary trails in Specuator and LP are in poor to unridable condition. The ground is not frozen and there is mud and running water on many trails. The River trail is not frozen so consider it closed.

The new trail behind Mt. Market is finished and will be ready to groom w/ new snow and cold temps. The Trail between the Village and Perkins via Melody Lodge is closed due to blowdown.

The town will be working on clearing the secondary trails and then grooming the corridor trails.

December 17, 2005 - Packing the 12" - 18" of powder!

This morning DRAG broke trail w/ the Skandic out of Lewy Lake on C8 to Perkins. The snow was 2' in the woods and 2' - 4' on the trail next to Rt 30. Since the snow was too deep for the Skandic we turned around and headed North. The trail will need a track groomer and some sled traffic to pack it down. At least we got a base started in the woods.

DRAG moved the groomer from Lewey Lake (due to trail closure in IL) and dropped it off in Speculator. We groomed all the Village trails from the Ballfield to C4 and from Mt Market to the Melody Lodge on C4. Trails are in Good shape but don't leave the packed surface.... you will find 2'+ of soft powder!

There are two new trails in the Village.

The first is a new trail cut by DRAG behind Mt Market. As you round the back side of the school you will see the new trail bend to the left. As you follow this trail a left will take you to the Sunrise Diner, Family Tree and Speculator Spirts. If you continue straight you will exit the trail on the back side of the carwash at intersection HM102. Stay to the left and you will see the groomed trail to Mt. Market, Village Motel, Switys, Village Rentals, Common Grounds Cafe & Chas Johns.
The second is a C4 detour behind Chas Johns. the old trail in the swamp is closed and a new trail has been marked w/ intersection HM103. The first 100 yds of the trail is lacking snow but it gets better as you travel north to Melody Lodge.

DRAG hopes to have the BR100 grooming the trails tonight or Sunday depending upon repairs. 

December 28, 2005 - Conditions Fair.

Arrived in town early this am. After doing some local trail work I rode to the Village. The Page street trail had lots of snow but was rutted. Rode around the edge of Lake Pleasant because it was all ice w/ no snow. Took the sidewalk to the Village center and then back to the river. Saw part of a green cowl sticking out of a mud hole on the river trail. Got the skandic and helped pull ithe Cat out. The trail is now roped off for safety.

Took the DRAG skandic and did Page street ... Very good except for a few bare spots. Groomed the Village trails but they were poor to fair.
