Vic's Kenpo School of Martial Arts

           AMERICAN KENPO KARATE, MADISON, AL

Wellness Center, 7185 Highway 72 W

VIC'S AMERICAN KENPO KARATE

American Kenpo karate is different from all the other martial arts.  Having its roots in Chinese Kung Fu, this martial art teaches self-defense & self-control through 3 primary methods: self-defense techniques, forms/katas, and kumite/sparring (not mandatory for promotions in my style of Kenpo).

This style of Karate is both hard and soft, which means that not only do we hit hard and strong, but we also learn how to move out of the way of attacks, to parry, to evade, etc.

Our techniques utilize hands, fingers, elbows, knees, and feet in equal measure. These are designed to work for both sexes, and all ages.  We also teach joint locks, sweeps, throws, and some grappling as part of our curriculum.

We (Vic, Rich, and Victoria) also teach the basics of ground fighting, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo, and mix that up with a flair of MMA. Though our school is Kenpo, we like to introduce the student to the different arts of fighting that are out there. We train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), MMA, and stand up fighting on Saturday's.

For the Children: We have classes for adults and children alike.  The children will get to learn self-discipline and respect for adults.  They will also learn the basics of self-defense and the Kenpo style of Karate, and all done in a club and friendly atmosphere. All children will earn ranking Belts as part of our curriculum.

For the Adults: We stress low kicks (so do not worry about kicking high), self defense, and hard work to make you sweat, and the Kenpo style of Karate. All Adults will earn ranking Belts as part of our curriculum.

The Instructor: Victor Hervias is a 5th Degree Black Belt. He has been training and teaching since 1972. Victor is also a 1st Degree Black Belt in Isshinryu Karate. Vic was also a former “Top Ten” National and Regional Karate fighting champion (rated by the largest fighting organizations, PKL and NASKA), and he brings that experience to his teaching.

Additional accomplishment: Victor's many years of fighting, training, and teaching has brought him the honor of being inducted to the "Kenpo Karate Hall of Fame" for 2009.

Grappling / Jiu JItsu: Victor also practices and competes in Jiu Jitsu. His most recent win (2nd place) is the March 21, 2009 U.S. National Grappling Championships in Atlanta, GA. This is a Nationally ranked full submission tournament.

If interested in learning this exciting Martial Art, please call or email Vic and he can further explain the Kenpo style and how it is taught.  See the schedule link for class times and days, but in a nutshell they are on Wed, Fri, and Sat.
