Military Order of Cooties PUP TENT 3 SIDEWINDERS

What is a Cootie? It does not sound very inviting but being a Cootie can be a very rewarding experience.

The Military Order of the Cootie is the "Honor Degree" of the VFW and our group of about 20 or so Comrades, known as "Pup Tent 3"---the "Sidewinders", is part of Post 1760. The Cooties were first organized in 1920 and today the national

organization provides visits to over 1 million veterans who are patients in VA facilities around the country and around the world. Cooties provide visitation and entertainment for hospitalized veterans and support for the National Home for Children in Eaton Rapids Michigan.

Our Pup Tent works through the Veterans Administration Volunteer Services at hospitals and nursing homes in Phoenix and throughout the state of Arizona. The Cooties motto is "Keep 'Em Smilin' in Beds of White" and we have a lot of fun in the process.

OUR FIRST EVENT

Pup Tent #3 partnered with the East Valley Young Marines and went up to the AZ Veterans Home on Saturday Sept. 6th and visited with the Veterans living there.  Also while on that visit they delivered over 250 pair of socks, 100 home made blankets (made and donated by local families for our veterans), 150 LBS of snackie foods, and 5 puzzles.  The veterans were very appreciative and we had a great time.
