3. Glands of the skin

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Layers of the skin
The skin consists of 3 layers:
1. Epidermis (outermost)~~ has
Cornified (keratinized) stratified squamous epithelium
2. Epidermis ~~has collagen fiber, hair, arrector pili m.
3. Hypodermis (innermost)~~ has Adipose Tissue, subcataneous bursa
Endocrine gland (excrete into blood directly)
Exocrine gland: (excrete into ducts )
- **unicellular glands (duct portion NOT branched)
- ****goblet cell
- **multicellular glands (duct portion BRANCHED)
  ****According to the shape of the secreting place:                                *:tubular (管狀)
                                         *acinar (泡狀)
                                         *tubuloacinar (管泡狀)
Secretion Methods:
  • Apocrine glands - a portion of the plasma membrane buds off the cell, containing the secretion.
  • Holocrine glands - the entire cell breaks down to secrete its substance.
  • Merocrine glands/ Eccrine - secrete their substances by exocytosis.
Sebaceous glands (exocrine, acinar)
-Scent organ
-Circumoral glands (嘴唇腺)
-Horn glands (角腺)
-Glands of Infraorbital pouch(下眼窩腺)
-Carpal glands (腕腺)
-Glands of Interdigital pouch (指間窩腺)
-Glands of the inguinal pouch (鼠蹊窩腺)
-Preputial glands (包皮腺)
-Tail glands (尾腺)
-Circumanal glands (肛門腺)
-Glands of anal sacs (肛門囊腺)
Sweat Glands
-Large (Apocrine) sweat gland頂漿汗腺
-Small (Eccrine) sweat gland外泌汗腺
Distribution of Mammary Glands:
1. Thoracic (upper part, before diaphragm)
2. Abdominal (middle part, after diaphragm)
3. Inguinal (lower part, after abdomen)
Examples: Thoracic--elephants, humans
               Thoracoabdominal--cats
               Thoracoinguinal--dogs
               Inguinal--horse, goat, sheep, guinea pig, cattle
Milk Lines--a line of mammary glands (from arm pit to thighs) that can happen on all mammals. In case of abnormality, extra teats are likely to happen along the milk lines.
