Project 3 ~ Digital Story

Class Description:  High School, Digital Photography Class

Project Description:
Students will work together in groups of two to create a short story in the theme of a comedy or drama.  Students will take their own digital photographs and will use voice commentary to create the scenes of the narrative, using Microsoft Photostory.

Objective:
Students will be able to create a photo story using their own digital photographs and voice commentary.

Step One:
Students will get together with their partner to brainstorm ideas for the short story.  They must first decide whether they will create a comedy or drama.  Next, they will draw thumbnails for each of the scenes in the short story and add notes for the script of the voice commentary.

Step Two:
Students will use digital cameras to create a photograph for each scene.  Students will upload all of the photos into Adobe Photoshop.  All photos must be cleaned up (cropped, adjust contrast, brightness, color, etc…).

Step Three:

Now students will transfer the photos into Microsoft Photostory.  They will place them in the appropriate order and add titles or comments.  Next they will record the voice commentary for the story.  Last, music will be added to the background of the story.  Students may create the music, using Photostory, or upload existing music of their choice.  Students must remember to site the music if it is not their own.

Step Four:
The class will have a small film festival and all groups will present their short story to the entire class.
