There are scarecely any innovations that play to the harmonius aspects of a vibrant society without reverberating through the causes of neglect and disobedience. When a magical moment arrives in the history of a people, they stand and look stunned for a moment and then move on, seeking ever for more resources.

The revelation that human history is a constant pursuit of economic equivalence underscores the value we hold in our own self-preservation and well-being. As Nature's children, we strive to maintain a constant vigilance against natural predators, but we ourselves never suspect that the most deadly predator stalking us is our own desire -- or shall we say greed? -- to accumulate more resources than we can possibly need in a life time.

This drive to hoard the necessities as well as the luxuries builds to a crescendo every few years and results in a pop, where the supplies and demands are out of balance and an equation must be adjusted to reallocate the resources. Inevitably, there are human losses that possibly could be prevented in a more stable and egalitarian society.

It is the competition for survival that elicits the most self-centered behaviors from an otherwise cordial being who trusts in his fellow man. We depend upon each other even for the very air we breathe, and yet we seem never capable of sustaining even the minimal cooperation required to ensure that all our children are fed and clothed.
