VentureWeyr

Venture: An undertaking that is dangerous, daring, or of uncertain outcome.

Venture Weyr is set at the end of a long 9th Interval; it’s been nearly 1000 turns since Thread has fallen on Pern. AIVAS was found and the Red Star diverted – or was it? All of our favorites have long since died away. In the beginning of the Interval the dragonriders fell into disregard and scorn, they were treated like abominations that sucked the life out of the Pernese economy. Slowly but surely the dragonfolk left their Weyrs and moved South building homes around AIVAS and the surrounding mountain range. One high peak in particular they carved out to be their new Weyr. This was done using AIVAS’ vast stores of knowledge and salvaged equipment. As time went on the dragonfolk excelled at reviving the lost technology and improved on it. Their Weyrs, Holds, and Crafthalls are all equipped with most of the “modern-day” tech that the original surveyors enjoyed and then some of their own invention. And they thrived!

The rest of Pern society to the north continued as before, only they had struck from their archives all written proof that dragonfolk existed and let blur from the land all paths to the then known Weyrs. They stayed a hide-bound society, with their Holds and Crafthalls moving about through life in their mundane existence. Dragonfolk became the stuff of evil tales and nightmares with which to frighten bad children and even some adults who held firm to the superstition that they ever existed. “You’d better behave yourself or a dragon will sneak up on you and eat you before you can say you’re sorry!” But those horror stories that are perversions of the truth will indeed come back to bite them. The Red star looms close and is almost bracketed in the Weyr’s Starstones. Thus it brings us full circle to Venture Weyr and new and exciting adventures on Pern!
