PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Physiology:they are blue-skinned humanoid bipeds with white hair and knobby antenna on the crown of their heads. They lack visible ears. Andorians are the only species known to the Federation that display characteristic of both mammels and insectoid species. Like standard mammalian humanoids, the Andorians are warm-blooded, bear their young live, have an internal skeleton to which the body's muscalature is anchored. However, they also feature a limited exoskeleton which lends added strength and protection of the limbs end torso. The Andorian retina is composed entirely of intensity sensetive rods and is incapable of discerning colour. Colour is, however, added to Andorian vision by the dual antennae, which in addition housing auditory receptors, feature a complex matrix of light-sensitive cones. These cones cover the spectrum of colour visible to Terran eyes, as well as limited infrared wavelengths. 8ecause of the correlation of four independent light receptive organs, Andorian vision can be correctly described as "quadronsonic" resulting in superior depth perception. Andorian auditory capacities are also highly developed, allowing Andorians to hear a wider range of frequencies than is possible for most humanoid species. Because of their |
|
monodirectionalantennae, the Andorian-people usually listen with the heed down end slightly tilted. The antenna face forward and cannot rotate, causing Andorians to hear better from the front and sides than the rear. Each of the two antennae stalks are susceptible to damage and injury. Any hit will cause intense pain to an Andorian. If one stalk is destroyed, the Andorian can still "see" but at a loss of what was before. If both stalks are destroyed, the Andorian becomes deaf and color blind. Andorian are all ambidextrous. Language: Tho the Andorian launguage is universal on their planet, Federation standard English is widley known and used. |

Due to a unusuale axis the planet has two very diffent climets with a small area in between that is seperated by a very small area that is a medium between them.
Southern: It is hot and dry with vast underground water reserves which feed surface geysers heated by geothermal energy. Oases surrounding these geysers are the centres of the planet's main population areas, since the great majority of Andor's plant life thrives where subsurface water is plentiful.
Northern: Is very similer to the Southern Hemispher with the exception the climet. The Norhtern half of the planet is cold and frozen, but made up of essentiely the same geological structure
Society
The Andorian people ere an admittedly violent race. By heritage they are a
race of warriors with a history of savage conquest. They place a high value
upon family relationships and obligations, often placing them above public
duty. Andorians will not quarrel without reason and they tend to remain quiet
and listen to discussions until there is something with meaning to say. Andorians
are not usually very boisterous and are deceptively quiet in their relationships
with others this has, in the past, invited attack by others who quickly learned
that, once unleashed Andorian savagery end fighting ability is almost unequalled.
Southern Hemispher Society: 40% of the Andorian population live on the inland plains and tend to be semi-nomadic.
Norhtern Hemispher Society: 60% of the Andorian population live in coastal metropolitan centers.
The two groups have become increasingly isolated from one another over the last hundred years.
Family
Andorians believe in family above all else, even public duty. Their marriages
consist of groups of four. These marriages are very complicated, and involve
a great deal of ritual. Their families are very large, due to the fact that
they are very prolific as well. They are exceptionally good at communications
and navigation.

History
The Andorians of centuries past vainly named themselves the Star Empire, a
military state forged centuries before they had even achieved space travel.
All that is Andorian was built in the name of Krotus, their legendary conqueror,
who brought all the disparate cultures of the frozen world under his iron
rule sometime in the 13th century.
Determined to carry the legacy of Krotus to the stars, the Andorians built a dozen thriving colonies, and enslaved the primitive natives of nearby Menk II, before encountering humanity in 2137. The resulting war, fueled by Andorian certainty that they were destined to rule the galaxy, was a costly exercise for the Emperor, as the powerful Andorian ships repelled wave after wave of imperial assault. Ultimately, the Andorians were simply out-numbered and short on the resources necessary for extended warfare, and they found themselves in a humiliating war of attrition. Worn down to nothing, the proud blue warriors admitted defeat, their morale crushed and their cities starving.
For decades, the Andorians were grudgingly servile, but a younger generation fanned the embers of the spirit nearly extinguished by the war. In 2186, during a time of imperial instability, the Endilev clan led a bloody uprising in a desperate bid for Andorian independence. Striking coup after coup using little more than scavenged ships, antique weapons and the clans signature form of drunken-style hand fighting, their early success was shocking. In the end, however, they were still no match for the empire. An imperial warlord rallied the forces needed to do the job, and their utter defeat at his hands was turned into an instrument in his own bid for the throne.
What developed next surprised even the new Emperor. The Andorians couldnt survive the shame of a second crushing defeat, so they refused to indulge in shame at all. A religious and philosophical renaissance resulted in the fusion of the popular Terionist religion with the teachings of the latter-day prophetess Umarin. The new faith made loyal citizens of the Andorians, who, en masse and over the course of only a few years, embraced the belief that the human Emperor was the reincarnated embodiment of Krotus. They repented, feeling that they had been foolish to deny their destiny by fighting the ruler that they should have been serving all along!
The Emperor, amused, put this new development to use when dealing with the newly-discovered Klingon Empire in 2194. Offering the Klingons the role of favored slaves and guards galled the proud Andorians seriously. When it became necessary to extinguish the Klingons once and for all, the Andorians were the most eagerly aggressive attackers, swearing their lives to Starfleet for the first time in history, and slaughtering fourteen Klingons for every Andorian lost. They were determined that they would be the favored warriors, not the upstart Klingons! The Emperor, smart enough to reward and cultivate Andorian passion, but hardly willing to keep them literally at his side, elevated Andoria to vassal status. There they serve still, confident in the knowledge that they are the instruments of their ancient conqueror.
Creation Myth
The following is an account
of how the universe came into being:
It was dark, darker than holding your left hand over your eyes and your right
hand over your antennae. There was no noise; it was quieter than swimming
with ear plugs. And nothing to feel except a round, lumpy object floating
in the silent darkness.
Suddenly, a crack appeared on the surface of the object exposing the light
of the interior and allowing air to gush out. A piece of the object broke
away showing a hollow space within. It was an Egg, the first Egg ever. Inside,
this conversation took place:
"Now you did it," said one voice, "You broke the Universe!"
"No," said the other. "Look! There's more room outside."
With this, a pair of antennae poked thru the hole and twitched about. After
this came a pair of eyes and the long mouth followed, feeling and tasting
the edge of the shell. The shard, broken off earlier, shone in the distance.
"Let's go exploring" cried the first to look.
"Ow! You've smashed my head against the shell!" cried the second.
"Come back in! There's not enough room for the two of us to go out at
once."
This did indeed pose a problem. The two voices were Deeh and Than (Passion
and Gain). If you remember what they look like you'll understand why. Oh,
you don't? Then, I'll have to remind you. They each had a head, but they shared
the body of a larva, one body and two heads. Now where was I? Oh, yes, Than
was nagging Deeh to come back in the Egg.
"Deeh," whined Than, "You're smashing my mouth. How can this
help us?"
"But I must go see what's shining in the distance," insisted Deeh.
There was a cracking noise which caused Deeh to stop struggling. Than pushed
against the shell and drew Deeh back in.
"If we fight, we won't accomplish anything," they decided. Deeh
and Than rested and drew strength.
I remember my first breath as a young child. How the air stretched my lungs.
And how the red light of the sun burned my eyes with a curious intensity,
drawing me from the comfort of my Egg.
For Deeh and Than, it was different. There was no sun only the orange glow
of the shard fragment in the distance, a feeble light only Deeh could see.
And how it tantalized him. With the restricting influence of Than, Deeh couldn't
give way (if you'll pardon the expression) to his passions, until the Egg
broke and Than could see the expanse of room and the first shard scintilating
in the darkness. Then it was Deeh who slowed Than.
Paakh'vang, Nath'ngiid: Rituals of the Hatchling
Fertile An'dorians make up
only about five percent of the total population. As they are rare and their
production of the rest of the population is crucial to the continuance of
the race, they are protected from mundane jobs and tasks. They lay, test and
administer genetic manipulation of the eggs. Sometimes retro-virusus are used
to correct mistakes or to inhance the biological nature of a given An'dorian.
With this testing and manipulation, the several Castes have actually grown
apart genetically. Now, the Castes are so specialized that one is born to
his or her caste and position in life.
After this testing, the Fertiles veeph the egg to a couple or individual deemed
worthy of such an honor. As this honor is bestowed upon the whim of the Fertiles,
the Infertiles are continually baffled at the motives of the Fertiles. Hence,
their distracted stereotype.
The Infertile couple take the egg home and place it in the care of the bio-unit.
It hatches two An'dorian years [14.679 Terran months] later. A small An'dorian
emerges. For the next 12 An'dorian days [8.314 Terran days] the hatchling
has a sensitive period in which he/she bonds with the closest family members.
A Noble/warrior can get leave from the wars or Starfleet to take part in this
paakh'vang. At the end of this paak'vang, a nath'ngiid ritual is performed.
A N/W nath'ngiid follows:
The hatchling is brought before the members of the community with the members
of the extended family or khiib. As with all other N/W rituals, the nath'ngiid
is short and very formal. Selected male members join the rig [infertile father]
in a circle, hold the hatchling up to the sky, and pronounce a name and the
attributes expected of the child. Then the koob [infertile mother] and selected
female members of the khiib or community take the child and pronounce the
lineage and family obligations. If the child is a female, this order is reversed.
No noise can be heard during the ritual or the offending member looses status.
[An'dorians with alergies held very little status in the old days.] The infertile
parents then jointly held the child up to be seen. It is at this point that
the community members Oh and Ah, making such a racket that the child starts
to cry. The louder the child cries, the better the life of the child is expected
to be.
Inter-Caste Relations
Each of the castes are specialized to the point that each caste is woefully
ignorant of the others needs and strengths. Generally, the Noble/warriors
are the administrators, warriors, Blue [and Star]fleet officers, executives
and legislators. The Philosophers are the educators, research scientists,
theologians, poets, musicians, and doctors. The Tradesmen are the capitalists,
sales persons, advertisers and bankers. The Peasants are the workers, engineers,
farmers and labor unionists.
This stratification and segrigation of the An'dorian society has had major
political ramifications. On each level of society, the Imperial, planetary,
rimmaa [federal state, like the USA, European Union or NAFTA from old Earth],
nookhaa [nation state, like Nigeria, Guatamala or New Jersey] and zheebaa
[clan or city] level, there is an infertile Noble/warrior administrating the
affairs of that level and an [often bickering] council to hammer out the ripples
each new law or edict would have.
Each caste has vertual independence in its own sphere and yet the interdependence
of the system has such checks and balances that a human democracy would look
draconian.
Wars are vicious and violent, but only amoung N/W's. Why would a clan wish
to destroy what they could take for spoils? The three other castes could refuse
to cooperate with an unreasonable dictator who would be powerless to force
the issue. If he/she killed all the peasants, who would plant the crops?
Otherwise, who in particular fills the administrator's position is a matter
for the N/W's to decide. What the conditions are on the work site is up to
the workers, the peasants. What to be researched is a matter for the philosophers.
And what to sell, at what cost is up to the Tradesmen. If one caste's behaviour
begins to infringe on the other three castes, it would be pressured to change.
Hense, the importance of "Harmony and Balance."
Then there are the Fertiles. They are like an old great-aunt who comes at
the last minute and changes everyone's plans. It is believed that their breeding
projects distract and occupy them. They were the first to notice the polluted
nature of the industrial revolutions and they sounded long and clear the need
to switch to cleaner fuels.
There is a certain amount of interaction and, yes, jealousy between the Fertiles
of the several castes. And there is a certain amount of fear and awe towards
them on the part of the Infertiles. Death of a Fertile is a far greater tragedy
than for the Infertiles. But, they are largely absent from An'dorian life.
Names
The Fertile An'dorians are organized into
hyper-families called Khiibaa (Fertile [or Nature] Families). Infertile
An'dorian couples are organized into Hebaa (Infertile [or Nuture] Families.
The Fertiles, who lay thousands of eggs in a life-time and cannot raise them,
give out, or veeph, the Infertile eggs to Infertile couples of their own Khiib.
As the several Castes have interacted only on a business level for millenia,
they have grown apart linguistically and genetically. They can no longer interbreed
and they even have different styles of names.
The Noble/Warriors give personal names to reenforce
the warrior lifestyle. Such names as: Theel'zhiin (Guardian Sword), Ngaph'khiil
(Mighty Helmet), Phuz'vaav (Brave War of Honor), and Vookh'veeb (Flight of
the Bird of Prey) are typical of the names given to Infertile N/W An'dorians,
male or female. Noble/Warrior Khiib name, however, tend to be rather long.
Thethaaz'aam'Andor (the Governors of our World), Razh'Khiib'Muzhig (the Dark
Infared Khiib from the North) and Thehukhuh'Hiikhaa (They who do not eat Hiikh)
are the three most important Khiibaa in the Empire.
Philosopher Caste infertile parents tend to emphasize
animals which represent virtues of wisdom, honor, knowledge, etc., in naming
the eggs presented to them by the Khiib leaders. Geh, Liph, Thaak, and Vaath
are common examples of such animals. My own personal name, Kiir, is neither
common or uncommon. Philosopher Caste Khiib names also tend to be long, although
they describe the location of the originators of the Khiib: Voot'tuu'Deg'Veep
(river by the pollinating insect field), Pooth'Giph (Forest's end), and Gahoo'Uud'Zhuth
(Round Island Sea).
Tradesmen Caste Khiib names describe the occupations of the original tradesmen.
Theping (miller), Thelev (blacksmith), and Therakh (fletcher) are the three
most common.
Personal names usually reflect the occupationand
give more information, for example: Taava Thelev (the-Power-Derived-from-Coal
Metal-worker), Ngaaz'Duuz Theping (Red-grain Miller), or Emveeba Therakh (Will-fly
Arrow-maker).
Peasant names are the least complicated. Khiib
names are taken from agricultural products, such as: Kuuph (Pollinating insect
which gives honey), Maan (plant like Bamboo of old Terra), Pip (hot Vegetable),
Rez (edible tree fungus). The personal names are unlikely to have any connection
to the Khiib name. For example: Ged (grain), Poob (bread), Teb (chisel), or
Zhaal (card game) could be siblings in any of the above mentioned Khiibs.
