Richard Rattie has been a fan of Star Trek since it was in re-runs in the 1970s.  His family was never big fans of the series so it was hard for him to watch it at times. It was not until The Next Generation years that he discovered the world of fandom that he started getting involved with various aspects: from working conventions to being the Vice President for one of the stars of TNG fan clubs.  The biggest convention that he attended was Shoreleave 13 (MANY years ago) in Baltimore, Maryland to which he is still in contact with one person: Marc B. Lee who many of you know as MCs many conventions.

Back a few years, He started he started participating in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds contest.  A competition for fans to get their short stories published in anthology for which one of his stories it into the 2nd read pile.  Following the end of the the contest he started working on original work of his own but hoping at one point breaking into into the business.  In recent years he became familiar with fan made series and thought to himelf that he could do that.  He approached Star Trek: The Expedition about working with their production.  All their scripts were assigned to writers and would not have an opening till their 2nd season.  Two days later they approached him about re-writing an existing script which had gone before the camera. His first onscreen credit will appear sometime this Fall.  Since The Expedition has has done what worked for Star Trek: Phoenix, Star Trek: Romulan Wars and Star Trek: Dark Frontier on various projects.

He believes in giving back to the community and has been a volunteer for various charities near and dear to his heart: helping those that are living with AIDS to helping our four legged friends who are in need of a new home.

Outside of Star Trek: he enjoys spending time with his partner Wes of almost seven years and four furchildren (4 Jack Russell Terriers).  The six of them enjoy road trips here in the Pacific Northwest. The photo attached is of Richard in front of the Northhead Lighthouse in Long Beach, Washington.  Yes that is the Pacific Ocean out behind me .
