A little boy is too scared to tell his mother he spent her money... He'll learn his lesson.

I Want My Liver Back, Johnny...

This legend is false

A mother needed Liver to cook the evening's meal. She did what she usually did and sent his little boy to get the liver from the butchers. He was on his way there when he passed an arcade, and he loved video games. He just couldn't resist. When he played a few games, he started walking towards the butcher's, but he realized her didn't have enough money left.
He was walking home when he had to walk through a dark area, on the edge of the cemetery. It was on the cemetary wall that he just saw a kidney. It had just been left there on a wall. Was it from an animal? Or a person..?
Johnny knew he would be in a lot of trouble if he didn't show up at home with a kidney, so he reached out and grabbed the kidney from the wall, shoving it in his bag.
When he got home, his mother happily cooked dinner, and they ate it. It was delicious.
That night, Johnny was in bed when he heard a strange noise downstairs. Like a scartching. He then heard a voice: "Johnny," it just whispered. Then he heard it again. "Johnny..."
"Johnny, I want my liver back..." it whispered sinisterely.
Johnny was petrified with fear. The scratching got louder. "I want my liver back, Johnny."
The scratching seemed to be making it's way towards him. "I'm coming up the stairs, Johnny," the voice whispered. "I'm walking to your bedroom, Jonny."
Johnny pulled the sheets over his head. "I want my liver back, Johnny."

His mother found him the next day. He had scratched all over his body and one of his livers had been scratched out.

This is one of those ghost stories that is passed around and it's only scary when you let it be. It doesn't take a genius (or a folklorist) to know that this legend is obviously very false. The only logical explanation would be that a crazy grave digger left the kidney there, saw who took it, knew where he lived and really needed a kidney. How likely is that?
Personally, I think this story would be much more effective with certain bits removed. he result is also much more like an urban legend. So i have it here:

That night, his mother was in bed when she heard a strange scratching noise. She assumed it was the noise of the large tree in the garden, scraping against the window, so she ignored it and went to sleep.
When Johnny didn't come down the stairs next morning, she figured he had slept in, so she went upstairs to wake him. She pulled back the covers to reveal a recently deceased Johnny. He had scratches all over his face. And one of his kidneys was missing.
