This year should be interesting as far as the team title goes...finally the rhinebeck trio is gone and things are wide open! I'll give the likely top 5 for each team ( do not take the specific order too seriously all I am trying to do is give you an idea who will be scoring for each team.)

Onteora:

Matt Kaiser 1:58, 4:28, 9:39

Andrew Ugolino 2:02 4:32, 10:29

Vasilis Kariolis 2:12, 4:55, 10:37

Erik Karatowski 2:11, 4:59, 11:xx

Brad Olson 2:17, 4:57, 11:20

Deep top 5 and judging by track times, the best team in the league. Onteora will have a new assistant coach, Joe Cahill this year. Joe is Kingston XC/Track Alumni, and should bring good things to the table at Onteora. Onteora has finished 4th, 3rd, and 2nd the last 3 years....is this the year???

FDR:

Mike Brocks 4:52, 10:19

Jon Baluzy 2:04, 2:45 (1K)

Zach Miller 2:09, 4:39

???

???

Top 3 is accomplished and experienced...good young 4,5 supposedly coming up. If FDR can plug those holes up they will be an excellent team. A group of real hard workers, will give onteora a run for their money.

New Paltz:

Dan Busby 1:58, 4:17, 9:11

Nick Mancuso 4:49, 10:47

Mike Van Etten 4:57, 10:53

Cameron Bartlett 2:12

????

Like FDR, New Paltz has a great top 3... word is they have a good 4,5 running now....could be really good. New Paltz is hungry for a trip to states, should be a battle

Red Hook:

Matt Marquardt 2:05, 4:46, 10:31

Ian Ellis 2:05, 4:50, 17:14

Zach Zucco 11:00

Klaus Schmidt 5:04

John Byrnes ??????

Very very good group of young runners. They put in many hours over the summer, could be a lot of fun to see how these guys shape up...Life after Dave Raucci won't be so bad for the Raiders after all.

MHAL XC
MHAL xc 2k5

The new season is almost upon us and i'm bored so lets take a look at what we can expect this fall in the individual and team battle.

Individuals: (in order of how they finished at MHALs last year)

Dan Busby: Dan Busby is questionably the best runner in the state. He was Class B NYSPHSAA champion last fall, and recorded some outrageous times. He capped off his impressive season with a  5th at federations. Dan's success carried over into the spring season recording track PR's of 1:58.7, 4:17.4, and 9:11.1. Dan could very well be the best runner in the state of New York this year.

Jon Baluzy: Jon Baluzy is another talent. Broke through at the MHAL champs last year with a 17:18 which was good for 5th place. He almost qualified for states in the deep section 9 class AA division and had a good indoor season. He unfortuneately encountered an injury the beginning of spring track that has had him sidelined throughout the summer. Jon will probably resume training late August.

Mike Brocks: Mike had a very good xc season last year. Made first team MHAL with a healthy 7th at MHALs in 17:30. Ran really well in a few road races last year. Mike ran a solid 10:19 3200 in the spring. He has been logging in substantial miles this summer and should be someone to reckon with come the fall.

Andrew Ugolino: Ugo had a very good xc season last year with a 9th at MHALs in 18:01. Andrew is capable of much better times for he was sidelined for 2 weeks in the middle of XC last year. Ugo has been getting in a solid base this summer and should be one of the premiere runners in the league in the fall. He ran some exquisite track times (2:02, 4:32) which shows his potential.

Nick Mancuso: Nick was the best freshman in the league last year for cross country. Finished a great 10th at MHALs in 18:02. He qualified for the state meet in XC. Kid has a lot of potential. He ran a 4:49 mile in track which is very good for a freshman. Nick will be very very good in the fall.

Matt Kaiser: Matt had a weird xc season last year. He finished 11th at MHALs in 18:04, and 9th at sectionals in the same time. They were off races and a lot of factors contributed to this. He had a good race however at states where he finished 26th in 17:24. Matt (I) had a solid indoor season ( 4:30.77, 10:03) and ran some good times in outdoors ( 1:58, 4:27, 9:39). He has been building up a base and will be ready for the upcoming xc season. He ran a 16:55 at Mills earlier in the summer during a time trial

Frank Stortini: Decent XC runner. We all expected better track times but oh well.

Kyle Drozenski: Kyle is a mid-distance runner at heart but put up a solid xc season last year with an 18:05 at MHALs. Popped a 50.7 in a relay...really good leg speed. Ran 2:05 in track...don't want to be with him in the last 250 meters of a race....and he has a hot sister.

Pat Murray: Pat had a breakthrough last year at MHALs with an 18:10. Ran low 5:00s and 11:00 in track. XC is his thing however, could be a contender this upcoming year....

Mike Van Etten: Mike had a good all-around year last XC season. Finished 15th at MHALs (18:10) and just missed a trip to states. Mike will round out New Paltz's accomplished top 3 runners. Went sub 11:00 and 5:00 in track. Hard worker.

Zach MIller: Zach didnt run at MHALs last year, but is definitely one of the better runners in the league. Zach posted a quality 1600 time of 4:39 last spring, and will be up there come fall. Zach is without a doubt the best #3 runner in the MHAL.

New Faces in 05:

a lot of quality runners are assimilating from soccer to XC...this should be one of the fastest years in MHAL history....

Ian Ellis: Sophomore popped some great frosh times last spring season. (2:05Relay, 4:50) ran great at silks and satins with a 17:14...someone to watch for

Matt Marquardt: Ian and Matt will lead the raider charge this fall. Ran great track times (2:05relay, 4:46, 10:31) He is a big pick up for the raiders.

Kevin Flynn: Very good mid-distance runner will be doubling up this fall for spackenkill. Ran a 2:03 at sectionals. Will lead the spartans.

Klaus Schmidt: Finished 3rd in Modified champs last year...real workhorse who will strengthen the red hook team
