The UP Sentai Ongaku Manga Anime Soshiki (UP SOMA Soshiki) is a duly recognized socio-cultural organization at UP Los Banos. The organization aims to promote sentai (Japanese movies, dramas and live-action shows), ongaku (Japanese music), manga(Japanese comics) and anime (Japanese animation) in Los Banos, while pursuing camaraderie among fellow enthusiasts. The idea for the establishment of the first Japanese Pop Culture-oriented organization in UPLB began in the mid-2nd semester of the year 2004. The founders thought of the idea that UPLB should have its own base to secure the promotion of sentai, ongaku, manga and anime in UPLB and beyond its walls. To share their vision, a meeting was called on January 25, 2005 to formally establish SOMA Soshiki and to gather almost 50 students which were later on reduced to 30 that became the organization’s Charter members. The election of officers and the ratification of the constitution soon came after. Nearly six months after its establishment, UP SOMA Soshiki was officially recognized under the OSA-SOAD on July 7, 2005. Since then, the organization has already gained additional 13 members. UP SOMA Soshiki had already done several anime filmshowings, Anime series raffles and other fundraising activities, outreach programs, availing of sponsorships to the conventions of other Japanese Pop Culture-oriented organizations outside UPLB and its first ever on-the-spot art contest for the elementary students of Los Banos in cooperation with the World Vision. Until today, UP SOMA Soshiki still continues to promote Japanese Pop Culture as an alternative hobby free from harmful vices and to gather enthusiasts with the same hobby transcending cultural and language barriers. |
