THE EVILUTION BEGINS HERE
Having seen the Circus of Horrors a few years previously I thought I knew what to expect when they came to Aberdeen. I remember them being fairly entertaining and a bit different. I'm not sure if my memory had simply failed or if their tour has been majourly re'vamped' (haha) but last night they were fantastic!! Being in the very front row certainly made the experience better as we could really see all the gore and action close up. I have always been a cynic, but seeing the spurt of blood as someone stapled playing cards to their face made me realise that it was no illusion!
We were welcomed into the venue by a few roaming characters. They were all trying to sell programmes, but seemed more interested in harrasing people and making everyone laugh!
The men couldnt take their eyes off the corset cladded women, and who can blame them anyway?!
The show started with the whole cast singing and doing various tricks on stage, it looked very impressive with so much going on at the same time. The band were on stage too dressed up in similar burlesque gear. There was a story line linking various acts which worked well, and each performer was highly entertaining and they often came down into the crowd. Dr Haze prowled around the stage and sung his way through the night, always surrounded by scantily clad women. There were so many interesting and impressive acts- Gary Stretch was great to see, mainly to hear the audiences reaction as he pulled his skin into various shapes. Demon Dan, a dwarf, entertained us through the show, mostly doing things that involved him taking off his underpants (don't even ask about the hoover!) He even opened a bottle of beer with his eye! Hanible (who had skewered himself through the cheeks earlier in the evening) proceeded to drink the beer and squirt it out of his cheeks! There were other acts with whips, dancing skeletons, flaming limbo poles, flying acrobatics, spinning wheels, walking on knives, and of course metal cod pieces!
In all it was a brilliant evening, really funny, a very strange, and sometimes downright gross. Just what I wanted!
(Since writing this review I have been informed that this 'Evilution' tour is a mixture of new and old acts from throughout their 13 year history. Every show they are doing on this tour will have different acts performing. Sounds great, go see them!! I do wonder if the famous 'wasp boy' will join them again, he was the first thing I heard of about the Circus of Horrors and I am yet to see him perform with them. I missed my chance at Glastonbury Festival one year when I got stuck in the mud on the way there!!)
