THIS PUNK TRIBUTE BAND CAME ON AND HAD THE CROWD GOING, GREAT TUNES FROM A GREAT ERA...HAVE SEEM THEM A FEW TIMES AND THEY DO A GOOD JOB..THEY COVER SONGS FROM THE MID 70,S TO EARLY 80,S..INC THE DAMNED,THE CLASH, DEAD KENNEDYS..

THEN ENTER THE SKA- DROOGS, LOOKING MENACING AND GREAT AT  THE SAME TIME, ALL DECKED OUT INA CLOCKWORK ORANGE STYLE.. SKALLOWEEN HAD REALLY BEGAN, THEY BELTED OUT GREAT TRACKS INC. REWARD,GENO,GANGSTERS.. MUST HAVE LOOKED GOOD FROM THE STAGE AS IN THE CROWD, QUITE A FEW HAD GOT DRESSED UP, DRACULA,CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW, OOR WILLIE,WITCHES... BUT NOT MANY GIGS WILL HAVE A ZOMBIE +  A MUMMY SKANKING AT THE FRONT. ..WHAT A GOOD NITE..

BIG HAND

BIG HAND CAME ON 1ST, WE HAD BEEN SPEAKING TO THE GUYS BEFORE THEY CAME ON AND FOUND OUT BY THE END OF THE YEAR THEY WILL HAVE PLAYED 120 GIGS...WOW..THEY MUST BE ONE OF THE HARDEST WORKING GROUPS OUT THERE + THEY ARE SPONSORED BY JAGERMEISTER...

THEIR HARD WORK HAD OBVIOUSLY BEEN PAYING OFF. THEY DID ALL THEIR OWN SONGS, EACH OF WHICH WAS VERY WELL PLAYED. IT WOULD BE GENERALLY DESCRIBED AS SKA BUT HAD INFLUENCES OF ROCK, REGGAE AND ALL SORTS! EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE ONLY A 4 PIECE BAND THEY FILLED THE VENUE WITH ENERGY, THE TRUMPET PLAYER ESPECIALLY BOUNDING ENTHUSIASTICALLY AROUND THE STAGE. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THESE GUYS!

ABERDEEN BEACH + CAFE DRUMMONDS ABERDEEN 02-02-07

It was good start to the afternoon,meeting Nick, Martin,Louis,and AL top guys, going down to the beach with my brother in tow, to do some photos of the guys in a different surrounding than inside a venue..

THE HARRINGTONS

Arrived at the gig about 10pm, met up with Abskin + Davey from the harringtons who didnt even relise who who i was ..and was asking if i was coming along..Also met up with Rhude boy + met Fee for the ist time..

It was a late start with the band not starting till after 10.30,which saw the Harringtons on 1st..
this was a good set by the band only the second time that i,ve seen them, plenty up for it & skanking all over the place.

  


They went down well, so we hopefully  they will be back up there for a future gig ..

SKAVILLE UK

Skaville Uk came on around midnight, and started off with "i wish it was 1973" i really liked this song before, but really love it more now that i saw it live.. they also sang the "viper" + "devils daughter". and a few other tracks from the forthcoming album. along with oldies,the new songs were fresh and really great.cannot wait till album comes out..Martin on the keyboards is outstanding,Al on drums great,Louis on guitar super,Nick is great frontman and they will get better all the time, but with the experience they have all got this wont be hard..

the guys played tight and really enjoyed themselves and finished the night with "can can" so Martin could get a chance to show off his keyboard skills and dancing.. great..

THE TUNNELS, ABERDEEN 17-02-07

AFTER BEING AT  THE CIRCUS OF HORRORS ALSO THAT NIGHT, I HAD TO RUN DOWN TO THE TUNNELS TO SEE THE GUYS PLAY.. I GOT THERE JUST BEFORE THE SET, THE BAND PLAYED TIGHT AND WERE GREAT, BUT THE DOWNSIDE WAS THAT THERE WASNT THAT BIG A CROWD, WHICH IS DISSAPOINTING AS WE CRAVE FOR SKA MUSIC HERE IN ABERDEEN + WHEN IT COMES WE DON,T SUPPORT IT ENOUGH.. USUAL SUSPEVTS WERE THERE ME, ABSKIN RUSSEL + A FEW OTHERS..

AMERSHAM ARMS,NEW CROSS,LONDON 03-03-07

MADE THE TRIP TO LONDON, TO SEE SKAVILLE, WAS STAYING AT OUT FRIENDS NEAR FINSBURY PARK, WHICH WAS THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF LONDON FROM THE GIG..SO 3 TUBE TRAINS + 45 MINUTES I ARRIVES AT THE AMERSHAM PUB NEW CROSS..

IT WAS A SMALLISH VENUE,(REMINDED ME OF DRUMMONDS).BUT IT WAS GETTING BUSY + EVERYBODY SEEMED UP FOR A GOOD TIME.. MET UP WITH THE GUYS AND MET NICKS WIFE + BROTHER..

SKAVILLE TOOK THE STAGE WITH RHODA DAKAR (EX BODYSNATCHERS)..THEY ARE GETTING BETTER EACH TIME AND PRODUCED A GREAT NIGHT, SINGING SONGS OLD AND NEW ,CAN CAN,SKINHEAD LOVE AFFAIR, WISH IT WAS 1973,OUTA MY HEAD, BRIXTON CAT (VOCALS BY RHODA) AND RHODA,S DO ROCKSTEADY, TO NAME A FEW.. THEY PLAYED FOR ABOUT 90 MINS.. WITH NEARLY EVERYONE DANCING FOR THE WHOLE NITE.. IT WAS OVER IN A FLASH, THEN HAD TO GET MOVING SO I COULD GET THE LAST TRAINS BACK ACROSS LONDON..

I WENT AGAIN AS A MUMMY AND SAL WENT AS A CORPSE BRIDE (SO SHE COULD GET TO WEAR AWHITE WEDDING DRESS )..

1ST ON WAS SHORT NOTICE, GREAT ROCK BAND "Notice have been described as a mix between The Damned, The Stray Cats and AC/DC, no complaints from the band on those comparisons, however the band are in unchartered waters with the Double Bass slapping, crunching riffs and sing a long choruses, giving them a unique sound and look." THEN ON CAME DEVIL TRAIN, A ROCK N ROLL BAND WHO SING GREAT COUNRTY SONGS..

THEN ON CAME AKA-SKA WHO ALL HAD GOT DRESSED UP LAST YEAR IT WAS DROOGS THIS YEAR IT WAS SKELETONS.... THEY WENT THROUGH A GOOD SET INC. GREAT COVERS OF GHOSTBUSTERS,TURNING JAPANESE + GENO.. FULL OF ENERGY AND GETTING A PRETTY GOOD SIZE CROWD JOINING IN AND DANCNG..  AS USUAL STEVE WAS A CHARASMATIC FRONT MAN WHO CAME ON WITH A HUGE SKULL AND THE REST OF THE BAND WERE GREAT .

NEXT UP NEW YORK SKA LEGENDS THE TOASTERS HAVING BEEN ON THE GO FOR 25 YEARS, I ONLY RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT THESE GUYS, HEARD ONE OF THERE ALBUMS AND WAS BLOWN AWAY AND COULDNT WAIT TO SEE THEM LIVE AND BOY WAS I NOT DISSAPOINTED..THEY WERE AWESOME FROM THE START.. PLAYING SONGS FROM THE NEW ALBUM AND SOME OLD TUNES INC. "WEEKEND IN LA" "FIRE IN MY SOUL" AND THE TOTALLY AWESOME "DONT LET THE BASTARDS GRIND YOU DOWN"..PLAYED FOR AN HOUR WITH LOTS OF PEOPLE DANCING AND IT WAS OVER IN A FLASH..IF YA GET A CHANCE CATCH THESE GUYS SHOW WHENEVER YOU CAN..WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO MEET BUCKET AND THE GUYS..COOL BLOKES..

The Toasters have been around since 1981 and will undertake their 25th YEAR ANNIVERSARY TOUR IN 2007. Formed on the Lower East Side of Manhattan they traded punches with the best of them at the legendary CBGB's Club (RIP) on the Bowery. With early releases produced by the great Joe Jackson they zoomed into prominence as America's early ska pioneers and have been blazing the way for the rest of them ever since.
