Creeping from the frozen blood shores of Aberdoom, Skulland, this fearsome fivesome have been haunting the stage for some time... Leaving a crimson squelch and a warped smile on the faces of all who behold them... The ghoulish result of an experiment to stitch, bolt and melt together the dead flesh remains of Rock ’n’ Roll, Punk, Metal and 60’s Garage to make something greater than the sum of its parts.

THE LEMON TREE ABERDEEN 05-12-06
featuring
Jake Burns (Stiff Little Fingers)
Roddy Radiation (The Specials)
Nick Welsh (The Selecter)
Pauline Black (The Selecter)
and special guest
Eric Faulkner (Bay City Rollers)
THIS GIG WAS OPENED BY SPECIAL GUEST ERIC FAULKNER (BAY CITY ROLLERS), WHO DID SOME ROLLERS NUMBERS, SHANGALANG, BYE BYE BABY ETC... AND A MARC BOLAN TRACK.. AND IN BETWEEN TOLD STORIES OF HIS ROLLERS DAYS.. WAS JOINED BY NICK WELSH FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF NUMBERS..

A GREAT IDEA GETTING TOGTHER 4 MUSICIANS FROM 3 GREAT BANDS, WHO HAVE OVER THE LAST 20+ YEARS PENNED OVER 100 GREAT SONGS. TO DO AN ACOUSTIC WALK THROUGH THEIR MUSIC AND TELL THE STORIES BEHIND THE SONGS IN A INFORMAL SEATED VENUE, WAS A PLEASURE TO BE AT GIG WHERE I WAS NOT JUMPING AROUND AND BE ABLE TO RELAX AND LISTEN INTENSELY TO ALL THE MUSIC AND STORIES... BRINGING THE MUSIC TO OLD FANS (LIKE MYSELF) AND NEW YOUNGER FANS..

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE NIGHT WERE THE STORIES.
PAULINE TOLD THE CROWD THE REASON BEHIND 3 MINUTE HERO, AS BACK WHEN THE BAND STARTED IF THE RECORDS WERE MORE THAN 3 MINUTES LONG, DJ'S ON THE RADIO WOULD TALK OVER THE END OF THEM. SO THEY DECIDED TO MAKE A RECORD EXACTLY 3 MINUTES LONG, THIS WOULD STUMP THE DJ'S!
10 YEARS BY THE SELECTOR IS A SONG ABOUT THE KILLING OF STEPHEN LAWRENCE..
BUT THE BEST STORY OF THE NIGHT MUST SURLEY BE JAKES...WHEN STIFF LITTLE FINGERS WERE STARTING OFF, THEY WERE ASKED BY SOMEONE TO DO A SONG FOR A FLEXI DISC TO PUT OUT WITH A FANZINE. THEY WROTE A SONG, TOOK THE GUY ALONG TO A GIG AND PLAYED IT. HE SAID IT WAS RUBBISH (HE LATER WORKED FOR THE NME + NOW WORKS FOR A MAJOR NEWSPAPER) THE SONG WAS ALTERNATIVE ULSTER. IT JUST SHOWS HOW WRONG PEOPLE CAN GET!
OTHER SONGS OF THE EVENING WERE: ON MY RADIO, WASTED LIFE (ONE OF THE BEST PUNK RECORDS EVER AND THIS WAS AN FANTASTIC ACOUSTIC VERSION), MISSING WORDS, RAT RACE, DO NOTHING, PLUS A COUPLE FROM JAKES SOLO ALBUM RELEASED 13 YEARS AFTER HE DID IT.. AND THEY FINISHED OFF WITH BOB MARLEYS REDEMPTION SONG.
THIS CONCEPT REALLY WORKS, AND SHOULD BE DONE MORE OFTEN..
ME + JAKE..

BLEACHIE
BLEACHIE are now considered Europe's foremost BLONDIE tribute band (and believe us, there are a few out there!). Having returned recently from sell-out shows in Belgium, The Netherlands and Scandinavia "Dirty Harry et al" come to play a few Scottish dates before commencing on a string of festival dates around Britain and Europe.
Originally formed for a one off Halloween gig in Glasgow it was only the level and persistence of subsequent gig offers that convinced the members to keep BLEACHIE on the go. And it shows. The nature of their formation means that the sense of fun entertainment and genuine love for the music from this bands performance is unsurpassable.
Comprising various members of various well known Glasgow bands, Pink Kross, The Amphetameanies, Macrocosmica, The Johnny 7 and Leicester's finest heavy rockers "Josiah". This is no toe-gazing, indulgent art-band. This is full on, old school, new wave, pop-punk entertainment. BLEACHIE perform the greatest hits of Blondie (you won't believe how many you know the words to!) with a respect and love for the music and a healthy good natured tongue in the cheek for the kitsch glam of it all.
So dig out your thigh high boots, packets of peroxide and your French phrase books. Stop "Hanging on the Telephone" and get to feel the "Presence" of real entertainment cos "One Way or Another" BLEACHIE are going to make the evening truly "ATOMIC"!

CAFE MUSA, ABERDEEN 22-02-07
We met up John before the gig and some of his friends and had nice chats with and he invited us down to his gig with wild Willy Barret at the 100 club in london... we looked around the venue, it was a small cafe, but that made it more intimate..
The 55 year old John Otway came on stage saying the very true sounding "I know I don't look like a pop star..." but proceeded to wow us with his punk/poet/singer/musician/comedian talents. This was one crazy guy who had the crowd in stitches all through the night. He sung 'Space Oddity' in his fathers broad yorkshire accent, sang 'Head Butts' whilst butting the microphone, did 'You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet' and proceeded to throw himself around the stage in more outrageous ways, and even placed sound pads on his body and hit himself to make noise!! The double ended guitar had people in hysterics as did a punk version of 'Rumplestiltskin' for children! Unbelievably (but true) his lyrics to "Beware of the Flowers" was voted the UK's 7th best ever written lyric, of which he was very chuffed about!,he also had his theramin with him, a weird thing that makes funny noises, he finished off with the alamo. He reminded us of a hyperactive child, and soon blew away the image of an ageing pop star.
After John had a drink a proceded to sell his cds and chat to fans...
THE LEMON TREE ABERDEEN 16-03-07
Fan-bloody-tastic! These boys know how to throw a good party. 30 years on and the Stiff Little Fingers still rip up the stage and get the whole venue jumping.
They started of with “Roots Radics, Rock & Reggae” followed by “Nobody’s Hero” and “At The Edge” then their tribute to the late Joe Strummer “Strummerville”. A new song followed about Tony Blair & George Bush that hadn’t been recorded yet, aptly titled “Liars Club”. “Fly the Flag” got the crowd really going.
Then it was the historical part of the night when Jake said that they weren’t really big on nostalgia but as it was 30 yrs of SLF they thought it would be fitting to play almost the entire first album. So it was into “Suspect Device” and the Lemon Tree was rocking to the roof, punks of old and new jumping around like mad men (and women!) possessed. They played the entire “Inflammable Material” album, (except “Closed Groove”), highlights being “Wasted Life” which gets better all the time, and the controversial “White Noise”, which got them banned from playing in Newcastle for 5 years when the album came out because some politician had deemed it racist, who even put a picture of the band in the local paper and could only found one photo of them at a rock against racism gig!
“Alternative
So that’s it until next year, March 16th yet again. After 5 years in a row I never get fed up & always look forward to seeing these guys. Some bands might lose their spark, but not this lot!

LIVE AT THE TUNNELS ABERDEEN 09-11-07
Subway Sect were without doubt one of the finest punk bands of the era but you'll never know because they released just two singles over a 2 year period and one John Peel Radio session.
Vic Goddard and guitarist Rob Simmons started out playing the blues at college in South London before busking in tube stations as makeshift rehearsal venues. Hence their name supposedly after a Hammersmith Subway (they were nearly called the Numb Hearts). Like many others their outlook changed after seeing the Pistols at the Marquee. They loved the image if not the music. (TAKEN FROM PUNK 77)
WENT ALONG NOT QUITE KNOWMIGN WHAT TO EXPECT, HADNT REALLY LISTENED TO THEM,PAST OR PRESENT.. THERE WAS A MEDIUM SIZE CROWD THERE, BECAUSE IT IS A QUITE A RARETY TO SEE THEM PLAY OLD EARLY STUFF..
CAFE DRUMMONDS ABERDEEN 10-11-07

GLASGOW SECC 18-11-07
The support band was local female band The Hedrons, pretty good rock band, followed by DJ Goldie doing a drum 'n' bass set for 45 minutes, which had a punk crowd going totally whack booing, throwing stuff at him and he just played along by dodging them and giving them the finger
..i think it was a good ploy as it work the crowd up into a frenzy..
Earlier in the year i had saw Madness at Glastonbury which i thought was the best gig i,d ever been to or would have been to.. ohh how wrong i would be..
The sex pistols came on and played to a packed secc on the 18th november, the band came on to the rendition of we belong to
then they played what was the almost the entire Never mind the Bollocks lp.. "emi" "liar" "holidays in the sun" really had the crowd going almost an entire arena was jumping around..John lydon is up there as one of the best front men of all time along with the likes of Jim Morrison,Jimmy Hendrix, Jagger etc..his presence is awesome, his mannerism at time hilarious and the banter with the crowd exceptional.
i never managed to see the guys when i was young or the 96/97 tour..it took me 30 years to see them but it was so worth the wait..
John said the the Glasgow/scottish audience put the Brixton (5 nites) and Manchester crowds to shame and that the Scottish crowds are tops, this i believe as i have seen numerious bands that have said exactly the same.
After an hour they went off to come back on to do encores of "bodies" + "anarchy in the uk" and finished no wait they got such a good respones that they came back to do "stepping stone".. then it was over..
I was like a teenager again and had just witnesed best concert i,d ever been at ....
