Brian Perkins returned in 2006 as Head Coach at Upper Merion after a five year hiatus.  Brian began his rowing career in 1984 at St. Joseph's Prep, where he rowed all four years.  Having earned a full scholarship to Temple University, Brian displayed his growth and leadership abilities as the team captain in 1992.  Brian is not new to the coaching field, as he has previously coached for Harriton High School, where in 1994 his lightweight 4+ won the National Championships.  He also coached at St. Joe's Prep, Temple University, and was Head Coach at Upper Merion from 1996-2000.  Brian's role within this rowing program will be varied.  He will assist in all aspects:  administrative work, coaching and most importantly, sharing his expertise with our organization.

Joe is entering his fifth season as our Varsity Girls Coach for Upper Merion Crew.  Joe is full of energy and spirit.  Under his tutelage the girls Varsity 4+ has been invited to the Nationals three times, and has made the finals once, won the petites once and performed well above expectations each time.

This is Caroline's first season as Varsity Boy's Coach.  After three seasons as Boy's Freshman/Novice Coach Caroline will be will be replacing Jason Bohot.  She has had tremendous success in educating and training first year rowers to become valuable contributing members of the Varsity team.

This is Jannette's fourth season coaching the Freshman/Novice Girl's for Upper Merion.  She continues to bring different approaches and energy to the team and has enjoyed much success in 2007 by handling a team of more than twenty athletes.   Her former athletes continue to grow and excel at the Varsity level, which is a measure of the education and trainig they recieved their Novice year.

This is Jason's first season coaching the Freshman/Novice Boy's for Upper Merion.  He continues to be creative and strives to bring out the best in all his rowers.  There is much to be learned as a novice rower and very little time to grab their attention.  Jason is excited to continue his role as a mentor to the new youth of America.

Dear Jason,

Thanks for the essays, which I've found quite entertaining.

I think the first one relates rather to rowing culture and psychology ("coxswaining"), than to biomechanics.  The second one is quite good also with one exception: the stretcher and the handle forces never make a parallelogram during on-water rowing, because the first one is always 30-40% higher than the second (depends on a gearing ration).  The true parallelogram occurs during ergo rowing.
