Tribes and Skills
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a chart showing every skill in URW, and the formulas used to generate base skill levels (based on stats), which are then modified by tribe - exceptional skill values are shown in bold print; worst skill values are shown in italics:
As far as skills go, it seems the Kiesselainen have the best overall set, with the Driikilainen bringing up the rear on total best/worst/non-existent skills. Realistically, the Owl-Tribe are the best rustic survivors, possessing high levels in Survival, Timbercraft, Foraging and Hideworking, though their nonexistent Tracking skill is a bother. For the best hunters and warriors I would recommend the Kaumolainen, and for the best fisherman I would suggest the Seal-Tribe. For someone who wants a more generic character, with less strengths and weaknesses as far as skills go, I would recommend the Sartolainen. Note the two "unlisted stats", which modify the rate of travel for your character, as well as affect some aspects of combat. Stats are added and multiplied, then divided, as above, to produce base values. These base values are then multiplied by the number cross-referenced for the character's skill and tribe, to produce the actual skill values (thanks to pH7 for clarifying much of this, and for creating the original tribe/skill chart!).
Phobias
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every character in URW has a Phobia. Here is a chart of all ten Phobias and what activates them:

When a Phobia activates, the character suffers a nervous breakdown. During a breakdown you will:
*At least lose a turn of action as you freak out...
*Possibly drop either of your readied weapons...
*And possibly lose consciousness!

Generally it is best to roleplay your character properly, and avoid the source of your Phobia at all costs - peaceful, Martiophobic characters can be very fulfilling. Still, it can be fun to play a Haemophobic warrior once in a while...

Weapons
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A good weapon, and enough skill with it, can save your life. Unless your character is a complete pacifist you should invest a skill point into at least one weapon skill of your choice. Here is an exhaustive list of weapons. Generally, weapons that weigh more do more damage, and some weapons have additional abilities:
Kaumolainen make great swordsmen, and are also good with shields if you prefer a one-handed sword. Koivulainen are good with flails and spears. Owl-Tribe are good with axes, due to high Dexterity and Eyesight, but they are terrible with daggers. Driikilainen are terrible with crossbows.
If your character's main weapon skill is Axe or Dagger, remember to carry spares. There is a random chance of losing them while travelling.
Construction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is a chart showing every type of building you can make in URW, and the materials, tools, and work required to finish it. Shelters and Cellars can be built in any direction, since they do not require groundwork. For all other buildings, groundwork must first be completed in an open area to the north of your character, and will appear in relation to your character as shown:

Shelters are the most basic (and perhaps, the most practical) form of building, requiring no groundwork of any kind. Cellars are a recent addition, and must be built into a pit - they keep things cool, preserving food, skins, and anything else that decays, but will not shelter you from the rain. All other buildings will begin to shelter you from the rain as soon as their groundwork is completed.
