So the Prime Minister now has two big name former-Conservative MPs in his party ranks, and Ms. Stronach's decision to abandon both her origional party and business-oriented principles by jumping to the increasingly socialist Liberal/NDP alliance makes me wonder what her reasons for the shift were? Most likely, she was angry at Mr. Harper for not exiting the leadership stage after the last election to make room for her, and was also wooed by the promise of having a cabinet level position in the Liberal minority. That said, Ms. Stronach owes a sincere explanation to her Newmarket-Aurora constituents - who elected her as a Conservative and now are asked to support her as a Liberal. Also, if I were a Liberal, I would want to know why the woman who launched numerous attacks on the PMO and indeed the entire party is now so happy to join the people she so publicly detested? Now, if my party were just saved by an about-face from a former enemy I'd be happy too, but I'd also be getting a little worried that two of the most well known of Liberal leaders today happen to be former enemies - begging the question of how well will that lay the groundwork for the future of the party.
The Liberals revel in talking about the schisms within the Conservative party, yet if the Liberal tent is going to be expanding at the rate it is now (with both Conservatives and NDP socialists joining and aligning whenever a Tory victory seems at hand) then one day there will indeed be a very grave partition in the Grits that could make the Reform/PC split of recent decades seem like childs'-play.
