The University of Coruscant was established after the fall of Coruscant from the hands of the Empire into the New Republic.  Before the fall of the Empire, a free civilian academy such as the University of Coruscant would have been banned from establishment, especially for allowing nonhumans admittance in.  When the Empire evacuated Coruscant, the Imperial Academy was abandoned.

A grant from the New Republic government was given to establish the University of Coruscant at the original location of the Imperial Academy.  The founder of the University was Joni Legherl, a scholar that has been teaching since the days of the Old Republic.  Since then, the University has stood on its own without general funding from the Senate or any branch of the New Republic government, except for certain joint projects.

The University continued its growth until today to the term of office of Prime Minister Emphrates Tilden, who promised many reforms to the New Republic's rebuilding efforts after the Galactic Civil War.  With those reforms and reforms from previous leaders, the University was able to expand its campus to the shape it has become today.  New professors and scholars were invited to teach at the University from across the galaxy, making this one of the largest joint galactic efforts in history.

Since its conception, the University has bought and/or constructed many facilities for the use of the galactic community.  The first of these projects was the Galactic Library Annex, a five-year project to build one of the most comprehensive libraries in the galaxy.  The Dean Council of the University soon decided that the Library needed to be dedicated to a person in history.  They decided on the name Emphrates Tilden Galactic Library to honor the New Republic's current Prime Minister.  The project is nearing its completion today and will open by the end of the year.

Even now, the University is in the stage of creating a partnership with the New Republic military for a Reserve Officer Training Corps to help the ever-expanding military to protect the New Republic territories.  Since its conception almost fifteen years ago, the University has grown exponentially.  It will continue to do so to accommodate the galactic community in its quest for peace and equality.

The University of Coruscant thread was established in April of 2003 for the Main Board Timeline of the Star Wars: Exodus forums.  The creator of this thread was JediKamSolusar, with the help of former SWE role-player Liliuo.  It has since grown to include the Emphrates Tilden Galactic Library with the help of Gamaliel, the role-player of current New Republic Prime Minister.  Several role-players have come and go in experimenting with the thread.  One role-player named Jay Night proposed the idea of an ROTC program for the University and helped in its conception.
