UNITED SONG CONTEST

Welcome to Stockholm and the 2007 Winter edition United Song Contest. This might be the largest USC so far because UBU has taken away the 36 participants limit for 2007. Just like last year Winter Edition the Arena will be The Globe Arena.

The Globe was built in record time - in less than 2 1/2 years - and all of Sweden followed the construction work with great interest. On the 19th February, 1989, it was time to inaugurate the white “pearl”. Ever since, the Globe has been the world’s largest spherical building. It’s unique shape has become a symbol for Stockholm and Sweden alike. Each day people from all over the world come to look at this curious architecture with its clever construction solutions. For example, the arena can very swiftly be transformed from an ice hockey rink to a gala dinner hall, or from a show jumping arena to a rock concert arena. The events take place rapidly, one by one. In March 2007 (Saturday 17th) at 18:00 there will be 16.000 people sitting waiting for the Winter Edition to start. Just like it was magic in Winter Edition 2006 for France's singer Najoua Belyzel afyer seeing the points and winning the first Edition in the new format with only 1p over Helena Paparitzou it may as well be a thrilling live voting this time too. Many countries have already started their national preselections and we know there are many good songs this time as well. The Globe welcomes approximately 1 million visitors each year spread over 130 days of events. The largest audience is still the one at Bruce Springsteen concert on June 17th in 1992 – 16,337 people came to the Globe that day! From popes to kings The Globe is the arena for the major, exciting events. This is where two ice hockey world championships have taken place. The Pope has held a catholic mass here and the Swedish king, Carl XVI Gustaf celebrated his 50th birthday here. Among a large number of other artists, we have have seen Bruce Springsteen, U2, Metallica, Tina Turner and Madonna on stage here. But will we see Helena return? Or Alcastar? Or Birgitte? or Cascada even maybe? How large is the Globe? The Globe has a diameter of 110 metres, the interior height is 85 metres and the volume is 600,000 m3. It would take 40 years to fill the Globe with water from a tap. For tickets visit webpage.
