How to PRE-Sell NOT SELL

As an affiliate you have to make sure that you always PRE-SELL, NEVER SELL! Honestly, this is an entire course in itself, so we'll just discuss the bare basics.
So what is a PRE-Sell and what is a SELL?
A SELL is something you see on a merchant's website - where the copy tries to entice the reader, get them excited - it normally walks the border line of being "hype." Now, a PRE-Sell is when someone just writes a form of an endorsement, product review or inserts some links in an article.
This is where you don't actually attempt to SELL a product, you only "recommend" or "suggest" a product followed by a link to the merchant.
** You let the merchant do the selling.
By PRE-selling, you're getting your prospect ready for what to expect. You're putting them in a "buying" mood - this increases your conversion. If you hard sell them on your website, most will
not even bother clicking through - they'll lose trust and think you're just out to get 'em.
Even if some DO click through, they'll get hit with ANOTHER hard sell - now, they'll really run away. The lesson? Try to create a relationship of trust with your prospect - just refer them over to the right place and let them know why you're recommending a particular product.
So, a PRE-sell is either of the following:

Optimizing your Articles with Keywords
===========================
We don't want to make your head spin here, so we'll try to keep this AS simple as possible. There are certain places you want to insert your keywords when building an article webpage.
Here they are:
. The title of the page
. The Description META Tag
. The Keyword META Tag
. In your Headline, use HTML Tag <h1></h1>
. Your first line of text
. Once or twice per paragraph
. Once/Twice in bold
. In the text of a link
Some other tips:
. In your graphics - use keyword in HTML ALT tag
. Use a secondary keyword also - a few times
Some Cautions:
. Don't Overkill - repeating your keyword an obscene number
of times will not help you at all - it will hurt you.
. Never hide keywords - never.
. Nothing tricky - if it's tricky, don't do it.
. Don't have a LONG keyword META tag
The above is how most search engines determine how relevant your webpage is to a specific keyword. This is NOT the only element involved in search engine optimization, however, it's one the most important. The next strategy we're going to discuss is also critical - for Google, especially.

A Linking Strategy
=============
Alright, now, we're going to discuss the one, quite possibly most important element to ranking well in Google - the # of incoming links. Google has been giving more and more importance to what they call their "PR" - short for Page Rank. The PR is based on a scale of 1-10 and the higher it is, the more incoming links you have.
The PR is determined by the number of INCOMING and OUTGOING links you have. You should have the maximum number of incoming links.
See, Google's theory is that by having a site link to you, that website is basically "voting" for you - that site is telling Google:
"Hey, I like that website, it has good content, I feel comfortable sending MY visitors there, so should you..."
The more sites that tell Google that, the more willing Google is to send its’ traffic. So, bottom line, recruit incoming links.

Today, I want to talk about how you can create a sales force of little mini-people. People who run around the internet 24/7, bouncing from one computer to the next - all to promote your website. O, and they also, don't charge a penny (like search engines).
Today, we're going to talk about how you can use viral guides to eventually run your entire business for you - bring you thousands of visitors a day.

Bottom line is this, if you have ANY business, affiliate or not, and you're not using viral guides to promote it - you're out of your mind! (no offense).
Sure, viral guides don't bring immediate traffic like "Pay per Click" brings, but eventually viral guides bring more targeted visitors than pay per click could even DREAM of - AND - they're FREE visitors.
So, spend some time now, relax for years to come.
Here are just a few reasons why viral guides are so strong.
. They are a form of traveling information lined with your affiliate links.
. Others distribute them FOR you.
. The traffic they generate is 100% Free.
. They bring targeted traffic.
. There is no expense in distributing them (if online).
. They are the perfect incentive to build your opt-in list.
. You can eventually use them for press releases.
We could literally go on forever about why you should use viral products to promote your affiliate business - frankly, there's no reason not to!

What Should Your Write About?

So, you're convinced that you need a viral guide, great! Here's the catch - you actually have to write it (or get it written).
Either way, you have to have a topic - if you don't pick the right topic then your guide will be a complete waste.
If the topic is wrong, here's what will happen:
. Few will read it.
. It won't create any interest.
. It won't represent your website well.
. Few will distribute it for you
That basically destroys everything that a viral guide is about! So, the first step to creating a killer team of mini sales people is to make sure your team is talking about the right topic.
How do you find the right topic?
Simple, poll your market - find out what interests them!
Here are some ways to observe your market's interests.
. Visit forums and see the topics that appear the most.
. Study the different keyword searches and how often particular keywords are searched.
. Visit websites in your niche and see what they talk about the most.
. Ask around - ask people you know in that niche.
There are literally many ways.
Either way, make sure you create a short and catchy title always.
A great example of a title:
"8 Ways an Affiliate Can Build a Business with No Money"
Ah-ha, got your attention didn't we?
Titles like that with numbers and benefits tell a reader exactly what to expect.
NOTE: Try to keep your entire reports short; your main goal should always be to just get traffic to your main website.

How Do You Actually Make The Report Viral?

Ok, great, so you wrote a report, now what?
It's not just going to walk off your computer and invade other people's computers!
Your team of mini sales people is very shy, and they don't like going into people's homes without an open invitation. So, to encourage them, you have to help them get these invitations - THEN, from there they'll take care of you.
There are many ways to promote your viral reports online. We can't possibly discuss them all here (but we DO discuss them in The Affiliate Classroom)
Some ways to distribute your Viral Report:

First things first, make a separate page on your website where all you ask people to do is opt-in to your list to get the report.That's it, no sales offer - just a FR' EE report in exchange for an e-mail.
** We're going to direct traffic mainly to that page.
. Post at Forums
That's right, start posting at forums and link your signature file to THAT special page where the person can get the report for opting in.
Your signature should reveal that there is FR' EE report waiting for your prospects.
. Have Other Websites Promote it
There is a great little trick to helping you get other websites to promote your viral FOR you...

Yeap, all you do is keep your own profile, and links to your website in it. But, all the other "affiliate links" get changed to someone else's affiliate links.
Why you ask?
Because this way someone has incentive to spread your report around - you still get traffic and you can still build your list!

Brand affiliate links for other websites, so they have an incentive to promote the guide for you. Those three alone will get you going, then later you can start using profits to pay for advertising, etc...
Also, remember, slowly the more reports you send around - the more your traffic should build as other people promote that guide!

You've probably heard how it's the next California Gold Rush making people thousands of dollars for scratching their butts
and picking their noses.
Now, if you've given PPC a try, you're probably wondering...
"Is it just me? Why's it working for everyone else, BUT me?"
You've probably lost a few hundreds dollars, pulled no results, had your ads dropped by search engines like Google for absolutely NO reason - etc...
Well, today, we want you to know that you're truly not alone!
Most marketers are experiencing the same thing, they just don't speak up - only the successes speak up, so that's all we end up hearing!
Today, we're going to discuss this PPC myth, talk about whether
it really works and then explain how you can take a FAILING campaign and instantly turn it profitable - yes, it CAN happen...

Why Pay Per Click Doesn't Always Work...
============================
Because it's not that simple. You don't just slap up an ad and then wait for your checks.
No.
PPC campaigns need planning, constant tracking, constant tweaking and LOTS of testing. You must be willing to also lose money before you make money - in the testing process.
We have no problem with people raving about how beautiful PPC is, but we DO have a problem with people raving about how "easy" it is.
Also, the truth of the matter is, there ARE some niches/products that PPC just won't work for. You've got to be willing to see/admit that, and cut your losses and move on.
Pay Per Click can only convert if your sales page is good, your sales process is good, your product is good, your product is in demand, your product is something people are willing to pay for, your price is right, the list goes on...
So, before you venture out on ANY PPC traffic, know this. You've got to be willing to invest time and money. You've got to be willing to test and tweak. Most of all, you've got to be willing to recognize a dead-beat and shut it down while you can.
Below, we're going to talk about why you need to do a lot of testing with PPC campaigns...
===================== Why Testing is So Important...

Just like any other campaigns, PPC also needs to be tested.
Here are the various elements of the campaign that should be tested.
1. Your ad
2. Your keywords
3. Your bids (cost per click)
4. Your sales page
5. Your sales process (more on this later)
6. Your price
7. Your offer
8. The entire campaign itself
Literally, we have no doubt that we could go on forever, but you probably get the point.
Each, even the smallest, elements of the PPC campaign effect whether you make a sale or not. If even one is off, it can mean the difference between making hundreds/thousands or losing hundreds/thousands.
By testing your ads, maybe you can get a higher click through (more traffic). By testing keywords, maybe you can get more targeted traffic. By testing cost per click maybe you can make more money? By testing your sales page, maybe you can convert more of the PPC traffic into sales?
What we recommend is testing each element separately. Find what you think is the weakest element and start tweaking it until you have results that are acceptible - then move on. Once you've done one round through each element and you're still losing money - abandon ship.
If, by now, your PPC program is converting, then go back and tweak more to optimize your results even more!

The Need for Only "ONE" Call For Action
==========================
Here is where MOST people fail - this ONE tip just may change your entire PPC life, honest. Sending traffic to a website with a bunch of links everywhere is not advisable - the person gets lost.
Obviously, if you're "paying" for a visitor, there is something SPECIFIC you want them to do. Sign-up for your newsletter, buy a product, etc...
So, send them to a page where they have JUST that choice - nothing else. Don't give them space to think. Give them what they're looking for and ask them to make only ONE choice, the one you want.
Given, you may not want to go directly to the "sell..." We'll talk about this in the next section where we talk about the importance of testing a "2 Step Process" sale.

Why You Should Test a "2 Step Sale"
========================
Remember earlier we said that we'd show you a way you can literally take a failing PPC campaign and turn it profitable overnight? Well, here it is. A system that works beautifully for some products, but not so much for some.
What's a 2 Step Sale you ask?
A two step sale is when you have your prospect do something "small" that their comfortable doing as step 1 - this increases your response from the PPC campaigns. Then, after they take that step, you ask them to take the next step - the major sale. So, you work with them in small steps and they feel more comfortable buying your product(s).
Here are some examples...
Example 1

Some niche markets may not feel comfortable spending $30 on an e-book right away, so your PPC campaign may be stinking.
However they are hungry for information, so they may JUMP at the opportunity to sign up for a FE' EE newsletter or sign up to download a FRE' E viral guide.
So, you let them do that first.
THEN, eventually, in your follow-up autoresponder you go for the "sale" in a day or two (or more). Now, the prospect has some form of trust and relationship with you - they may be far more willing to give your e-book a try.
There! You just took a FAILING campaign and made it successful!
O, wait, there's another side benefit! This way you start building a list - now you can sell them over and over and over again...
Example 2

What if you're selling a REALLY expensive product, something for $1000. Well, it's really hard to get a prospect to spend that kind of money on their FIRST visit to your website.
BUT, they MAY be willing to spend $50.00. So, you send them to a page where you just PRE-sell them something small (inexpensive) - this will cover your PPC costs AND maybe make a little profit.
Now, you have a list of prospects you can call and sell a more expensive service to.
So, you just took a "I won't buy a $1000 on-line to "Sure, I'd love to buy..."

Before we close today's lesson, we HAVE to talk about selling commodity products through PPC and why it can be harder and sometimes darn near impossible.
First, what are commodity products?
Our short and simple explanation is ANY physical product that can also be bought at the store.
Example/ Shoes, clothes, books, supplies, etc...
It's a definite given that internet shopping is increasing in a BIG way - but we're still not completely there. There are still products that people continue to prefer buying in person.
However, they LOVE doing their research online. Then, taking their new found knowledge and bargain prices right to the doorstep of their local store. As you can figure, when promoting commodity products through PPC, this can prove to be costly for you.
How can you know which products not to sell?
You really can't unless you test something. That's why we emphasize that some products just WON'T sell through PPC and that you should always be willing to abandon ship!
So, always remember, if your product can easily be bought OFFline, pay some very close attention to your PPC campaign and be ready.
Alright, so today, we hope that we've unraveled some of the PPC myth out there. You're not alone in your pay per click failures - others just aren't speaking up.
Pay per click STILL can be very profitable, it just needs to get tested and tweaked. And, you have to accept that it just won't work for EVERY product/service.

Simple answer, yes.
But, it takes time - if you're impatient and expect that after just one or two articles you'll get heaps of traffic, make thousands, then quit now - it doesn't work that way. Alright, so how do you get traffic from articles?

How To Get Pure Targeted Traffic From Articles

The million dollar question, no?
Let's start by saying that if your articles are on a really "niche" topic - you stand a much better chance on promoting your article.
BUT, if your article is on a worn out topic like "internet marketing" - then you better get ready to spend some major time building your reputation and credentials before you get any traffic from these articles (any major traffic that is...).
Following, we're going to talk about some tricks to use to get your articles published and then to get them to generate traffic.

Getting Articles Published

There are three places you want your article to get published.
1. A niche-related website
2. A niche-related newsletter/Ezine
3. An article directory
Getting Published in A Website:
This is the second toughest place to get published - here you have to contact the webmaster and submit your article personally.
The article has to be top notch quality, and it has to truly add some value to the website in case you want to get it published.
The best way to get this done is to write as well as you can and then contact as many websites as can - play the numbers game, the more you contact the better the chance of getting some publications...
TIP:
Once a website publishes ONE of your articles, make sure to develop a relationship where you send them more as you write them - this is the easiest way to automate this process.Getting Published in Newsletters:

The is THE #1 MOST difficult place to get your article published.

All newsletter publishers treat their Ezine as if it was their child - they make sure to only send out the very very best.B)
Newsletters are sent out periodically, so the publisher wants to make sure they send out the best - a website can have many articles, a newsletter can't.C)
The newsletter readers can opt-out. If they publisher sends something that is unacceptable then he/she is risking losing subscribers in a heart beat.Of course, there are many other reasons, but those are the most important.
If you want to get published in a newsletter, the best way is to first develop a relationship where you publish on the website. Once you have a working relationship, it's easier to offer a newsletter article - half the time, the publisher may end up asking him/herself.
Also, many newsletters pick-up their articles from databases - where they can easily search, read and choose.
Getting Published in Directories:

This is the easiest - why? Because most directory websites are automated - you can submit your article yourself and it becomes a part of their database.
However, you will get very little traffic from directories, most people don't go to directories to read articles, they go there to find content for their website/newsletter.
So, if you want to have any hope at getting traffic from your directory submissions, make sure your article is unique, well-written and informative.

Tricks to Getting The Click

The story's not over yet, so what if you got published? That doesn't mean that you'll actually get any traffic.
There are a few very important elements, put these in place you WILL see traffic.
1. Catchy title
- You have to make people READ the article.2. Resource Box
- Make sure you have a little info on who you are and a link to your website. When someone finishes the article, they know where to go to get more.3. An enticing offer
- What we've found that works very well is to give the reader a REASON to visit your website.Offer them a free guide or a free newsletter subscription. Then, provide the link that goes directly to a page offering that service in exchange for an opt-in.
4. Links to your website within your article -
We've found that inserting links to your website within the actual article helps build traffic.Example/

Another Way Articles Help You...

Besides helping you keyword optimize your own website - by submitting these articles to directories and other websites, you build more link popularity for your site.

Phew, it's day 6 and we're moving right along. So far, you've learned some great techniques to get some extremely targeted traffic to your affiliate website.
Today, we're going to learn a way you can truly capitalize on your traffic - a way for you to sell to your traffic over and over again.
Instead of just making ONE sale on your visitor, make an unlimited number of sales over a period of time.
How do you do this?
You build an "opt-in" list - a list of e-mails that you can send out messages to. If you've ever surfed the internet, you'll see that almost every "marketing minded" merchant is now offering a "newsletter" or an Ezine.
However, what surprises/shocks us is to see that barely any 'affiliates' are doing this.
We suppose most affiliates believe that they don't - need - to.
Well, today, you're going to learn just how important and profitable it can be.

Let's first start by convincing you why you need to build a list.
Here are just a few reasons off the top of our minds:
1. Sell over and over

Don't send out any messages!
Just take the first few days to create a 7 to 8 day follow-up series. Plug it into an autoresponder and NEVER look at it again.
See, it's been proven over and over that by following up with people for at least a week, you convert more sales.
Now, this way, you also have a list so if one day you find a great product you want to promote right away, all you do is send out a message - you have a GROUP of people WAITING to buy your product!

Now, here's what you do...

PREFERABLY, register domain names that end in .com without
dashes (-) and underline characters (_) in the domain name. If you

this registrar for cheap domain names. Step 6 Get a RELIABLE host for your domain name. Host4Profit.com and ThirdSphere.com are two of the BEST hosting services provided onthe Net.
Step 7 Write your ebook about “shopping secrets for young mothers.” If youdo not know how to research a subject and create an ebook, consider

this ebook on how to create a .pdf file. Step 9 Order the graphics for your ebook at Cover Factory or at InternetWealthZone.com or at VirtualPack.com or if you feelconfident enough create them yourself by using a software like

and the Header Generator. Step 10 When the ebook and the graphics are done, write your sales letter.Again, if you do now know how to write copy that sells, consider

Step 13 Write 3 messages for your customers: 1 “thank you” message theywill instantly receive when they order your ebook, 1 message asking
them if they downloaded the ebook and if they need any help, and 1
message asking for their testimonials about your ebook.
Step 14 Write 3 messages for your affiliates: 1 “thank you” message they willinstantly receive when they register as your affiliates, 1 message
asking them if they need any help, and 1 message asking for their
testimonials about your ebook.
Step 15 Write the promotional material for your affiliates: 1 solo ad (4-5paragraphs), 2-3 5-line ads, and 1 article of 500 words for your
affiliates.
Step 16 Install an autoresponder on your server. The best autoresponderscript can be found at
AutoResponsePlus.com. If you cannot installcgi scripts on your server, consider getting a free remote
autoresponder at
GetResponse.com. Step 17 Create 3 mailing lists in your autoresponder: 1 for your e-course, 1for your customers, and 1 for your affiliates. Require a “doubleoptin”
subscription for all lists: that means people must verify their
email addresses before being placed on your lists.
Step 18 Load all messages into the mailing lists you created in yourautoresponder. The messages for your e-course must be sent once a
day. The messages for your other lists must be sent: the first
message immediately, the second message after 2 days, the third
message after 7 days.
Step 19 Create 2 html pages for the subscribers of your e-course: one withthe subscription form for your e-course - like ecourseform.html, and
another one with a “Thank You For Subscribing” message - like
ecoursemain.html. If you do not have an html editor, checkHTMLKit at
www.chami.com/html-kit. Step 20 Open your sales page and include a javascript code, so thesubscription form ecourseform.html will pop up when the visitor
doesn’t click the order link on your sales page. Use Armand Morin’s
Pop-Up Generator, which you can find in the Best Seller Ebook’s

www.bseresellers.com - Contact a BSE resellerfor getting access to this collection.
Step 21 Create 2 html pages for your affiliates: one page - likeaffiliatesform.html - which includes the subscription form that adds
new affiliates to the affiliate mailing list, and another one - like
affiliatesmain.html - with instructions on how to use your affiliate
program through
ClickBank - include the promotional material foryour affiliates on that page.
Step 22 Create 2 html pages for your customers: one with the subscriptionform and another one as your “Thank You” page. Name the pages in
a way where people cannot easily guess the titles, like 8dudh46dhform.
html and 83hjd73h-th.html.
Step 23 Go back to your mailing lists. Set them up this way: a) for yourcustomers: when customers verify their email address, they must be
directed automatically to the 83hjd73h-th.html webpage, b) for youraffiliates: when they verify their email address, they must be directed
to the affiliatesmain.html webpage, c) for the readers of your
ecourse: when they verify their email address, they must be directed
to the ecourse.html webpage.
Step 24 Login to ClickBank and set up your link that will direct yourcustomers to the 8dudh46dh-form.html webpage upon the
completion of their order. Also set your affiliate commission to 50%
so your affiliates will get this percentage for each sale they generate
for you through their links.
Step 25 For automating the ordering procedure and customer support, openthe
Best Free Ebook - go to the ‘Automation’ section, and read thefree ebooks you find there. For more information on how to create
and sell digital products, check
this resource too. You’re ready to receive your orders! Now, it’s time to promote your site… Step 26 Get 1 of the ads you created and include it in your email signature. Step 27 Register with as many forums as you can and create a signature.Include one of your ads in the signature. You can start with

. Step 28 Register with the Warriors’ forum and ask for feedback about yourwebsite in the main discussion section. Reply to all responses.
Improve the copy in your sales letter according to the suggestions of
the Warriors.
Step 29 If you can, become a member of NetBreakThroughs, and ask forfeedback. Participate in the discussions in all forums and include
your signature in all of your postings. If a signature is not allowed or
a signature feature is not offered, then include a link to your site in
the appropriate field.

Step 30 After you have posted around 50 messages in the Warriors’ forum,create a special offer. Offer your ebook at a special price for 7 days.

Step 34 After the first 20 orders, install a forum on your site, like “TheForum Of The Young Mothers’ Shopping Secrets.” Read Michael

How to Start A Forum if you do not know how to create anduse forums for profit.
Step 35 Pay ezine owners to run your ad - prefer to pay for solo ads. Searchthe
Directory of Ezines to find the ezines that match your niche.Contact the owners of the biggest ezines (in your niche) and offer
them your ebook in exchange for a free classified ad in their ezines.
Again, do not be afraid to ask for help. Admit you are a newbie, but
prove to them that you have the guts to persevere and make your
ebook a best seller.
Step 36 Create a special version of your ebook (demo) with the Introductionand the Table of Contents only. Make this ebook BRANDIBLE so
your affiliates can customize it with their affiliate links. Create a
separate mailing list and offer the demo free to your visitors. Offer it
NOT as a direct downloading URL, but ONLY through the
subscription form you created. Create a ‘Thank You’ page for that
mailing list, setup the list to only accept ‘double optin’ subscriptions,
and point verified subscribers to the ‘Thank You’ page you created.
Create a new link in
ClickBank with a 10% discount. Use SpecialOffer Manager
and create a special offer for 50 orders. Include Use Special Offer Manager’s codes in that ‘Thank You’ page (to displaythe special offer) and offer your ebook at a 10% discount to all
subscribers who requested the demo.
Step 37 Research the Net for similar sites. Contact the owners and ask themto exchange links between your ecourse and their newsletters so that
they send subscribers to you and you send subscribers to them.
Step 38 If you know how to create customized subscription forms that’llwork with your autoresponder, send your affiliates the code, and
allow them to offer your ecourse through their websites with their
affiliate links included in all messages.
Step 39 Start a Newsletter: “The Secrets Of Young Mothers.” Either create anew mailing list through your autoresponder or choose a dedicated
autoresponder for your newsletter such as
Aweber.com or GetResponse.com. Pick a day (Friday and Saturday arerecommended) and send your newsletter once a week. DO NOT skip
a week. Include valuable resources in your newsletter, articles
written by experts in your niche, even interviews and contests. Be
unique and be yourself. Here are some excellent resources on how to
