It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent, corrupt, moralistic government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of Defence, Law & Order, and Education. The average income tax rate is 100%. A powerhouse of a private sector is dominated by the Book Publishing industry.
School uniforms are compulsory, several citizens have complained about scientists abducting their pets for experimentation, convicted felons are forced into slavery for their crimes, and citizens are regularly arrested in queues for 'loitering'. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Umojan's national animal is the Antaran, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the Mineral.

Brief History:
In 1300, when the United Powers League[UPL] sent 40.000 convicts and criminals to populate a new island, the fourty-four galleys in 1304 lost their route the squadrons of galleys Reagan and Sarengo landed on the island Umojan, the other two squadrons sank during their 4-year journey. The Sarengo sank, killing all 8000 in it, while the Reagan boarded the island safely and founded a colony there. When they had stopped and build a small colony, they tried to find out how long they had travelled, just to find out that a fire eliminated the travelling route and time, leaving them to an unknown future. They founded a city, calling it Sarengo after their crashed sistership, and started a perfectly working goverment.
After many happenings, like the war against the Confederacy, the war against the Dominion, and the war against the United Europe Directorate(UED) the nation inhabits the military hero Colonel Alora Jones. Now, in 2004, the island celebrates it's 700th anniversery and the nation is as strong as ever.

The Flag's Colours:
The blue background is for the colour of our military which almost all citizens like and have respect for.
The yellow ground represents the surface of the nation which is yellow due to the thin ozonlayer around Umojan.
The black arrow represents the military coup that placed Alora Jones in power and freed the planet from the former leaders tyranny.
The white border around the yellow and the black shows that all these facilities works together in peace, and will always do.

Some cultural information:
Elections is held every tenth year when there isn't a state of emergency going on, and Archduke Agones won the last one in early 2004, however, Alora Jones realized in a war against the enemies of Umojan that he didn't win, he cheated, so she killed him and overtook the rule.
The army is big considering the size of the population, but one should also consider that UED and right-winged nations attacked the nation often and would have overrun it by now if the army was any smaller.
