What was the point behind the development of these items?
- Crystal
Xanadu explanation: Possibly a replacement for the Black Onyx. It could
also have been planned to be used as a Ruby.
Black Onyx: Warps you one floor forward in Xanadu.
Ruby: Doubles the player's strength temporarily.
What I think: The red outline signifies that it could be a Ruby
crystal -- a portable Glove, if you will. Its usefulness could be quite
dramatic in the beginning of the game, but they had probably removed it
due to the idea that it could be used to defeat bosses with more ease
than initially intended.
- Lamp
Xanadu explanation: The Lamp was used once in every tower, so that the
player could see where he was going.
What I think: They were originally going to have some or all dark
towers, but had decided later on that this move would inconvenience the
player too much. It's either that, or they were pushing for some kind
of release schedule and this dropped from their priority list.
- Book
What I think: Not a damn clue, it could've been used for anything!
- Brown Potion
Xanadu explanation: The Brown Potion was used to double the player's
intelligence.
What I think: Since you can't double your magic strength in this game,
I believe it would be safe to assume that this would have been used to
recover MP. The green hue of the bottle (aside from assuming the
palette of every item in the game) is a rather cliched giveaway.
- Fire Crystal
Xanadu explanation: The Fire Crystal warps you one floor backward in
Xanadu.
What I think: This has the opposite effect of the Black Onyx. Since the
Black Onyx is used in this game to open the path to Daybreak, the Fire
Crystal could have been used as a means to return to Eolis. What
supports this particular theory is the fact that you can't go through
the door back to Eolis, ever.

Who is this strange looking old man?
What I think: He could be the big elf in pink who sits in the chair
with his legs crossed. He could also be a guard, or just a beta version
of the tool shop merchant, body builder, or doctor. I believe that he's
the elf who gives you the Ace Key in return for finding the Black Onyx.

Who is this cigarette smoking elf?
What I think: Clearly, he's the smoker who hangs around the bars in the
game, as well as standing outside of the tool and key shops in Eolis.
He's the only other smoker in the entire game!
