UK Paper's Autumn Season 2005 comes to a close

The last few months have seen some substantial changes within the band. After being told that we could no longer use the main Clubhouse in the Avenue of Remembrance, the band quickly found a temporary rehearsal room at Sittingbourne Methodist Church, but realising this was not adequate, successfully negotiated a rehearsal room at the nearby Borden Grammar School, which is now our permanent rehearsal venue. Fortunately all parties are happy with the move, and we hope to be able to carry on as before.

The band also held two major concerts this season. The autumn charity concert in September was this year run on behalf of the Kent Goldilocks Family Association, a charity specialising in providing specialist toys and games for disabled children in Kent. The concert raised a substantial sum for the charity, and we hope the children will benefit greatly from the funds the concert raised. In December, our traditional Christmas concert was held, with lots of festive music for the season, as well as a few selections and pieces for all the family.

The band, led by Karen Brown, also raised over £150 for Cancer Research UK by holding two carol playing events in and around Wormshill and Milstead in the run up to Christmas.

We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and we look forward to welcoming you back in January where we will have the latest news on the band.

Sunday 28th November 2004- Clubhouse Concert

UKPCBs biggest concert of the year took place on Sunday 28th, promising to play everyone's favourite! There was the usual dose of carol singing, solo items, The Sound of Music, and, of course, The Can Can to finish the evening off! The concert also featured the Highsted Singers, four musicians from Highsted Grammar School, who performed songs from musicals and films. The night was a huge success, with almost every seat taken, a full band, and a very happy audience!

During the evening, the Stan Burnett memorial shield was also awarded. This award is given every year to the person who, in the opinion of the band, has contributed towards the band most, whether it be musically or otherwise. This year, the shield was awarded to Anne-Marie Sampson, who is the band secretary. She has done a fantastic job in running the band, by organising concerts, printing programmes and posters, keeping in contact with event organisers and the band, and of course, whilst still playing flugel horn with the band.

More information on the Stan Burnett Memorial Shield will be posted soon.
