I am not sure how you ended up on this webpage. If you came here through a search engine, let me know - 'coz that makes me happy :) Coming to the point.. Why did I create this page? There are several reasons - cheap domain name prices, interest in dynamic html pages, lots of spare time at hand, and most importantly - loyalty for the place I grew up and spent the first half of my life in. Do I sound sentimental? May be I am, coz I grew up that way - having strong feelings for everything I come across in my life. I downloaded Google Earth recently and I couldn't help myself from trying to spot Rajampet on the globe.
I could do that, but then somehow, I digressed and went on to Google homepage trying to find stuff thats related to my place. Well, I could find a few websites mentioning Rajampet Parliamentary Constituency and that was pretty much it. Thats when I thought there needs to be
at least one website that cites my place and creates its listing on the internet. Thats how I ended up creating this webpage. I would feel happy if I can update this webpage
at least once every 6 months.
Now that you know why this page was created, let me
walk you thru to the most important part of this page - about the place
and its location. Rajampet is a mid-sized town located in
Cuddapah(recently renamed to Kadapa, but I am used to the old name)
district of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is somewhere mid-way between
Cuddapah and Tirupati(approx 60 kms from Cuddapah and 90 kms from
Tirupati). Here is the location of Rajampet on the map(Courtesy of Google Earth).

Rajampet is the only other parliamentary constituency in
Cuddapah district, apart from Cuddapah itself. I dont really want to
quote good-for-nothing details like the representatives of my place to
the Parliament and the State
Assembly, coz they change more often than I can update this page :)
Ah.. one more thing I forgot to mention - Rajampet was a Panchayat ever
since I knew, but recently was upgraded to a Municipality. What does
that mean to common public? More taxes :)
Well, Wondering whats around the place? There are a few
places around Rajampet that have historic importance.
There is this place called Tallapaka, thats located 4 km from
Rajampet. This is where Annamacharya is believed to have written all his
poems in praise of Lord Venkateswara. Some
say he was actually born here in 1424 A.D. I believe the number of
poems were estimated to be around 32,000 but only half of them were
discovered and accounted for in the form of copper plates. Many of those melodious poems
are being sung everyday in Tirumala, the abode of Lord Venkateswara.
Around 25 kms from Rajampet is a place called
Ontimitta, where I spent the first 10 years of my life. The
Kodandaramaswamy temple here is the oldest Sri Rama temple in Andhra
Pradesh. This is a place that is still debated to this day regarding the
birth of Bhakta Potana, one of the greatest poets of the 15th
century. His famous poems written in praise of Lord Rama were believed
to be written here at the temple. Some believe he was born in Orugallu,
now called Warangal in northern part of the state, whereas some believe
that he was born in Ontimitta.
I have left Rajampet around 5 years ago and I saw a lot
of change in the place the last time I went back home. Rajampet is well
known for its relation with the Gulf country Kuwait. A lot of people
from Rajampet area are working in Kuwait and earning money for their own
people back in India. That makes it financially a very important place
in the state. Thats one of the reasons why real estate is very expensive
here.
Rajampet is growing at a steady pace in terms of literacy and its
educational recognition in the district. I think it was around the year
2000 when there was an Engineering college set up around Rajampet. It is
located near Tallapaka and hence named after the greatest poet -
Annamacharya Institute of Technology and Sciences. It features several
important departments of Engineering - Civil, Mechanical, Electrical,
Electronics and Computer Science.
Rajampet also has very good medical facilities and good hospitals
around. There were days when people used to go to Cuddapah or Tirupati
even for a basic facility like X-ray and stuff and gone now are those
days. I wish to see further more advancements in this field though.
108 Feet statue of Sriman Thallapaka Annamacharya unveiled
The 600th Annamacharya Jayanthi celebrations were completed in Rajampet on
22nd May 2008. The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy
unveiled the 108 feet statue of Sriman Thallapaka Annamacharya located
on Tirupati-Kadapa bypass road in Rajampet on May 22nd.
As an outcome of these celebrations, Going forward - this place will be developed
as national level tourism/spiritual centre so as to attract many people to this
centre. 10 acres of land have been allotted for TTD to construct a temple, meditation
hall and a museum around the statue of Annamayya. Also, Rajampet Rural area would be renamed
as Anammayya Mandal.
Here are some of the pictures from those celebrations.

My name is Uday Kumar and I grew up pretty much all of my childhood in and around Rajampet.
I did all of my schooling there until I moved to Tirupati to
do my Bachelors degree in Electronics and Communications Engg
in Sri Venkateswara University College of Engineering. Then I
decided to move to the United States to pursue my Masters degree
in Computer Science. Thats how I ended up in the US and have been
here since 2000. Currently, I live in Bay area, California working for
Cisco Systems as a Software Engineer.

I have recently been to India and that gave me a chance to take a few snaps of Rajampet and Tallapaka. It was in hot summer and the scorching temperatures around the place stopped me from exploring the place a bit more. However I did the best I could.. Scroll thru for some pictures.. If you have any pictures of the places around, please send them to me via email.
