Events for Spring Quarter 2005:




Week 1: Welcome back! Board meeting TBA.

Week 2: BOARD MEETING: Board members and other club members are invited to attend our first board meeting of the Spring Quarter. It will be on Tuesday, April 12th at 4:30PM in MKH 126. We will discuss the upcoming (and quickly) High School Symposium, upcoming events, etc. Please attend!! We need your input and your assistance!!

PROFESSOR LUNCH: Professor Korr discusses the History of FOOD with us on April 13th at 2pm in MKH 200E. Bring your lunch and join us! We'll provide the dessert!

Week 3: 1st GENERAL MEETING of Spring Quarter: Please join us to discuss upcoming events and tell us what you want the club to do for you! Our discussion will be the general "what courses are you taking, what's good, who's good, tips, etc." So, come share what you've learned through the year and find out even more! It will be on Tuesday, April 19th from 4:30-5:30PM in MKH 126. See you there!

Week 8: GENERAL MEETING: Tuesday, May 24th from 4:30-5:30 PM in HIB 137. We'll be putting the packets together for the High School Symposium. Please come by and help us while sharing in the discussion.

Events for Winter Quarter 2005:




Week 0: Nothing, sorry!

Week 1: Our first general meeting of the quarter is on WEDNESDAY, January 12th at 4 pm. We don't know the room yet, but we'll post it soon. The topic is "separation of church and state".

Week 2: General meeting on Wednesday, January 19th at 4pm. Topic?

Week 3: Another general meeting- same time and place. Topic?

We're also going on a field trip this weekend! We'll be taking a walking tour of the Sunset Strip. More details later...

Week 4: General meeting at 4pm on Wednesday, February 2nd.

Week 5: No general meeting.

Week 6: Resume general meetings after midterms: Wednesday, February 16th at 4pm. They will be every other week from now on.

Week 7: Our annual book sale will take place this week to raise funds for our High School Symposium in Spring Quarter.

Week 8: General meeting on Wednesday, March 2nd at 4pm.  Coffee Hour with Professor Boyd...Spain!

Week 9: March 7th @ 7PM in MKH 126 - Movie Night with Professor Hill : "Elizabeth" Refreshments provided!!!!!!!!!!

Week 10: Last general meeting of the winter quarter - Wednesday, March 16th at 4pm. Be there!

We're also planning a Professor Lunch and a History Day event, so we'll update the website when we find out.

Events for Fall Quarter 2004:




Week 1 - Come visit our table outside of Murray Krieger Hall on Tuesday or Wednesday from 10am-1pm. We are passing out gift certificates to anyone who pays their dues by the end of week 1.

Week 2 - Come to our first History Club meeting of the 2004-2005 school year! It will be on Wednesday, October 3rd from 2-3pm in Murray Krieger Hall 200E. We will be introducing the club and its officers, as well as having a general discussion about the History Dept, its professors and its classes. There will be a raffle for those who attend and sign up for membership. See you there!!!!!!!!!!!

Week 3 - Join us for our weekly meeting; each week has a different subject. This week's is Travel Tales. Where have you traveled to in the past two years and how does it relate to history? There will be scrapbooks and lots of knowledgeable people to exchange travel tips with. Same time and place: Wednesday in MKH 200E from 2-3pm. Come by and tell us all about your favorite trips!

1st Faculty Luncheon: Enjoy a lunchtime discussion with Professor Strasser on October 15th (Fri) at 12pm in MKH 200E. Bring lunch and we'll supply the drinks and desserts!

Week 4 - Discuss "Debates" with other History Club members! What do you think of the Presidential and VP debates? What were strong points / weak points? Did you like how the candidates answered the questions? Do you think debates are a positive / negative part of the campaign process? Same time and place as usual: Wednesday in MKH 200E at 2pm. See you there!

Week 5 - Reminder: Applications for officer positions due by Friday, October 29th! Hurry and email us!!

In place of our general meeting, we will have a Graduate School Information Session with special guest speakers! Need information from someone who is already planning grad school or someone who is in grad school? On Tuesday, October 26th at 6pm in HIB 135. Refreshments served. Come by and ask questions!

We will also be providing our members with a study break! Come by and study in a quiet room, enjoy some snacks and sodas, and get away from those other crowded study areas! MKH 126 will be available for this special service on Monday and Tuesday from 11am to 3 pm and on Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Good luck on midterms!

Week 6 - Election week! Come by our General Meeting to VOTE ON CLUB OFFICERS, discuss history and politics: two subjects that often go hand-in-hand. Wednesday from 2-3pm in HIB 137. (Yes, we've changed our meeting rooms. Sorry!) Come learn and debate!

Week 7 - No meeting this week. Instead we're having MOVIE NIGHT!! We'll be showing Gangs of New York in MKH 126 at 7pm. Come enjoy a relaxing evening with the History Club and have some popcorn and drinks. Remember- there is no school the next day (Thursday)!

Start collecting cans and toys for Thanksgiving donation to a local charity. Drop them off w/ Marc or Judy in the History Dept. (MKH 200)

Week 8 - General Meeting on Wednesday in HIB 137 from 2-3pm. We'll be discussing IMPERIALISM: past and present. Share your views on the imperialistic policies of different countries. Is imperialism still a present danger? Come and enjoy this exciting discussion! Bring your suggestions for next quarter's events!

The Faculty Book Signing has been postponed to Winter quarter. Stay tuned!

Week 9 - No meeting. Instead, we're having a Coffee Hour before you leave for Thanksgiving: Enjoy coffee or tea while sharing in a discussion with Professor Levine. Monday, November 22nd at 4pm in MKH 200E. Sorry about the coffee hour mix up! Prof Levine had an emergency. He should be at the general meeting next week though.

Week 10 - Our last General Meeting of the Fall Quarter! Wednesday in HIB 137 from 2-3pm. Come sign Holiday cards to send to the troops overseas. Show them that they haven't been forgotten during this season. We'll either be joined by Professor Levine for our discussion and talk about the Middle East, or we'll have "the separation of church and state" as our topic. Let you know!

Finals Week - Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're having a study area again - Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 5pm in MKH 126. Take advantage of the quiet study space!

Don't forget to drop your donations off in the History Department before December 10th! They need gifts for teens, especially, but you can bring things for other people, including canned food. Thank you!!
