"Don't Laugh at Me"
I'm a little boy with glasses, the one they call a "geek"
A little girl who never smiles cuz I got braces on my teeth
And I know how it feels to cry myself to sleep
I'm that kid on every playground who’s always chosen last
A single teenage mother tryin' to overcome my past
You don't have to be my friend but is it too much to ask
Don't laugh at me; don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Some day we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me
I'm the beggar on the corner
You’ve passed me on the street
I wouldn't be out here begging if I had enough to eat
And don't think I don't notice that our eyes never meet
Don't laugh at me; don't call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Some day we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me
I'm Fat. I'm Thin. I’m Short. I'm Tall. I'm Deaf. I'm Blind.
Hey aren't we all?
Don't laugh at me; don’t call me names
Don't get your pleasure from my pain
In God's eyes we're all the same
Some day we'll all have perfect wings
Don't laugh at me
How many times of the day do you think about how weird people in other cliques are? Have you ever considered that they're just regular human beings acting how they like, just like you are? Do your friends support your decisions?
Girls, guys.. we have the problem everyday.. we have cliques.. they are everywhere.. in high schools, middle schools, and in college.. so where do you stand? Are you willing to make a difference in your school? So what if they aren't in your "Clique" that person could be the coolest one of them all.. and you wouldn't even know it, just because they are in different clicks don't mean anything.. get out there and make a new friend, talk to someone knew! Are you up for the challenge of making new friends; or are you too afraid to meet other people? When you are too afraid to be yourself you lose that time you could have spent living your life living someone else life. That isn't even living at all. You can't possibly enjoy other people's pain. That's just cruel. Even though stereotyping people (whether you like them or not) may be human nature...we must have better things to do with our time than sit there and make fun of them, or get on their backs because of who they are. Will you regret the decisions you made? Will you wish you could take it all back later? Think before you act or speak. Words can hurt even more than anything else. Especially if they come from someone you consider your friend.
Does this sound familiar to you? Are you the kind of person to keep people from getting to know you? So were we.. my friends and I created this email.. take time to remember and think, "Is this what I am? Am I the one who puts people into stereotypes?" Mandy wrote a article for the newspaper on stereotypes:
Goth, punk, emo, rebel, jock, prep, nerd, geek, rock star, manwhore, hobag,
heartless men out to get innocent girls, internet perverts, loners, classclowns,
artists, hobos, homeless people, druggies, drug addicts, hopeless romantics,
homos, homophobes, attention seekers, posers, retards, know-it-alls, blondes,
hippies, southerners, east coasters, west coasters, mid-westerners, northerners,
over-weight people, anorexic people, skinny people that just have high
metabolism, bulimic people, ect.
We are all people. How many of us get that?
Sure, we may not like the way another person acts, dresses, talks...but we're
all different.
People put a certain group into stereotypes. Teenagers smoke, do drugs, and
things they aren't supposed to. All preps are cheerleaders and love the color
pink. Goths cut themselves and worship the Devil. WRONG.
Aren't people allowed to do what they want, feel how they want, and be how they
feel anymore?
If one man breaks a girl's heart...they all aren't going to do it. If one
boyfriend cheats, that doesn't mean he'll do it again, and that doesn't mean
other boyfriends will go off and cheat. If one person goes and wears all black,
that doesn't mean they're gothic.
Rockstars aren't conceited oafs who try to get attention from their fans, and
lie. Some may be. But not all of them.
Why do we judge people before we get to know them? How good of people does that
make us?
You can't say you know a person if you meet them face-to-face either. One of the
happiest girls you see at school, could go home, and cry herself to sleep after
cutting her wrists. There could be a guy that is deemed 'gothic' or 'emo' that
goes home and listens to some pop music, or even country.
You shouldn't call people gay by the way they dress, the sound of their voice,
how they style their hair, if they wear make-up (in the case of guys). Style is
how you like yourself to look. I don't think it should matter if your style is
from the 50's, or something that would be expected to come out of the year 3000.
I know stereotyping is human nature...but can't we find something better to do
with our time, rather than find out what 'group' people should be in? Why don't
groups intermingle? I think it'd be a lot easier if say...a 'nerd' was friends
with a 'rebel' so they could get help with their schoolwork.
For all of you that think you know me...You would never expect it from me, but I
could come home after school every day, have a nice big glass of Jack Daniels,
and get a few hits of pot into my system. I give you all my word that I would
never, ever do that. But still. You don't know. You could be friends (or even
family) with a person for years, but never truly know them.
I find it wrong that people just like to assume what people mean when they say
something. I don't like it when people beat around the bush either. If you're
going to say or do something, get it over with.
Don't put words in people's mouths or minds. Don't say you know what they're
thinking, because unless they've completely explained it to you, you most likely
don't.
Don't underestimate a person because of where they're from, or how old they are.
It shouldn't matter what color a person is, where they're from, what their
religion is, how smart they are, how they dress, talk, act, look, or any of
that.
We're just people.
Nobody is perfect.
People with that.. think, next time talk to someone new...
Don't forward this. Some people don't read forwards at all, because frankly...they get kinda annoying. So copy and paste this into a brand new e-mail, with the same title as this one. Spread the word. Cause ya know what? Someone has to..
My friends and I created this as a chain email. I thought I would share it with you.
Anyway, I do not own the song or the lyrics of "Don't Laugh at Me".
