Janesko Fading Forum Tag

This time, we are going to make a forum sized tag, based on the sizes allowed in The Zone.

Supplies

No scrapkit for this one! All you need is a tube that includes closeup images. (Or you could get by using just a tube.)

Tube of choice – I am using art that is ©Jennifer Janesko, www.janesko.com. You must have a license to use her work. For more information on getting a license and purchasing her art, visit CILM. The tube I am using is called “Queen Of Hearts.”

Font of choice – I am using “Anaheim ScriptJF,” but any font will work. J

Animation Shop is needed to animate your tag.

I am using PSP X2, but this tut should be easy to use in other versions.

This tutorial is written assuming you have a good working knowledge of PSP.

Let's go!

Open your tube and a close-up of her eye (or other body part if you prefer). I am using close-up 1. Duplicate them each into a new window (just use Shift+D). Close the originals.

Open 2 new canvases. First canvas is 600x250, this is your tag canvas. Second canvas is 250x250.

Flood fill your tag canvas with a neutral color from your tube. I am using #dca191. Repeat on the smaller canvas.

On the tag canvas - New raster layer. Selections>Select All. Selections>Modify>Contract by 5. Selections>Invert.

Flood fill the selection with a dark color from your tube. I am using #95191a. Selections>None.

Repeat on the smaller canvas.

Copy and paste your closeup onto the SMALLER canvas. Arrange and resize how you like, sharpen if necessary. Move this below the border layer. Merge all layers.

Copy and paste the merged image onto your tag canvas. You can close the smaller canvas now. Go ahead and save your work on the tag canvas.

Resize your tube to a height of 255. Go to Image>Resize. Be sure that “Resize all layers” and “Lock aspect ratio” are CHECKED, and choose to resize using Bicubic.

Copy and paste your tube onto the canvas. Move it to the far left side of the tag. Sharpen if necessary. Move it to just above the bottom layer. Save.

Add a drop shadow to your tube layer. Go to Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow. I am using settings 4, 4, 40, 8, color black.

Duplicate your tube layer. Image>Mirror. Save.

Now add your copyright info and tagger’s mark (if you use one.

Finally, add your name. I am using font “Anaheim ScriptJF,” foreground set to null, background set to #95191a (same as the border). Font size 115.

You want the name to be large, but not any larger than the closeup of the eye. Objects>Align>Center in Canvas.

Convert to raster and add the same drop shadow as before.

Move your name layer below the closeup layer. Save.

Now we’re ready to animate, so open up Animation Shop and switch back to PSP.

Edit>Copy Special>Copy Merged. Switch to animation shop and paste as new animation.

Back in PSP, lower the opacity of your closeup layer to 85%. Edit>Copy Special>Copy Merged.

Switch to animation shop and Edit>Paste>After current frame (CTRL+Shift+L)

Repeat at 70%, 55%, 40%, 25%, and 10% opacity. You should have 7 frames.

Select all frames of animation. Copy and then Paste>As new animation.

In the new animation, select all. Then Animation>Reverse Frames. Copy.

Go back to your original animation and click on the last frame. Paste>After current frame. Close the reversed animation.

Now, select all. Animation>Frame Properties>Display time 20.

Finally, select your first frame and your 7th frame, change the display time on those frames to 100.

Save as GIF and you are done!
