This tutorial was written using PSPX2 but should be easily followed using other versions. You will need a basic working knowledge of PSP to complete this tutorial.

Animation Shop for animating the tag

First, open a new transparent canvas 600 x 250. Open your tube and duplicate it into a new window (just use Shift+D). Close the original and leave the duplicate up for reference.
Copy and paste your tube onto the canvas. Resize it (using your pick tool, mode set to “Scale”) until it fits nicely onto the canvas. Move it to the far left or right.
Duplicate the tube. Image>Mirror. Merge these two layers together. Rename this layer “Double.” Save your progress.
Copy and paste your tube again onto the canvas. Position it (and resize if necessary) in the center of the canvas. (See my tag for reference.) Save.
Duplicate the “Double” layer twice, for a total of three. Hide the top two and activate the bottom one.
On the bottom “Double” layer, apply Tramages: Cyber Mosh. Use settings: Grid Size 50, Distortion 50, Intensity 50, Line Width 10.
Colorize this layer to make it black and white – Adjust>Hue & Saturation>Colorize:
Using your Magic Wand, (Mode: Add, Match Mode: Color, Tolerance and Feather both at 0), click on the white lines until you have them all selected. Don’t worry if it selects part of your black and white tubes – we’re gonna take care of that later.
Selections>Modify>Expand by 1 pixel. Hit the delete key. Flood fill the selection with a color from your tube. I am using: #3884ab. Selections>None. Save.
Unhide and activate the next “Double” layer. Selections>Select All, Selections>Float, Selections>Defloat. Selections>Modify>Expand by 1 pixel.
Flood fill the selection with the same color you used before. Selections>None. Save.
Now, unhide and activate the top “Double” layer. Change the blend mode to Luminance (Legacy).
Optional: I applied Xero> Radiance to this top “Double” layer, using settings: Strangeness 31, Charm 83, Truth 26, Beauty 209. Save.
Add a new raster layer as your top layer, then activate your main tube layer (the one with just one tube in the middle of the tag).
Selections>Select All, Selections>Float, Selections>Defloat.
Activate your blank top layer. Apply Eye Candy>Gradient Glow – width 8 and in the same color as you used earlier. Selections>None. Save.
Now add your copyright info, license number (if applicable), and tagger’s mark (if you use one). Save
Next, add your name. If you aren’t going to animate, add your name anywhere that looks nice. If you are going to animate, you are going to need to add your name below your main tube layer, inside of the glowing outline area. I free rotated mine 45 degrees to the left, but it just depends on the shape of the outline.
For my name, I used the same color we have been using, then added a gradient glow (width 5) in a lighter shade of the same color.
If you are not going to animate – you are done!
If you are animating, open Animation Shop and return to PSP.
Edit>Copy Special>Copy Merged. Switch to animation shop and paste as new animation.
Back in PSP, lower the opacity of your main tube layer to 80%. Edit>Copy Special>Copy Merged.
Switch to animation shop and Edit>Paste>After current frame (CTRL+Shift+L)
Repeat at 60%, 40%, 20%, and 0% opacity. You should have 6 frames.
Select all frames of animation. Copy and then Paste>As new animation.
In the new animation, select all. Then Animation>Reverse Frames. Copy.
Go back to your original animation and click on the last frame. Paste>After current frame. Close the reversed animation.
Now, select all. Animation>Frame Properties>Display time 35.
Finally, select your first frame and your 6th frame, change the display time on those frames to 100.
Save as GIF and you are done!
To make an easy avatar – open a new canvas 150x150, then copy and paste the tramages layer, the glowing outline layer, and your name. Resize these so they fit and you’ve got a matching avatar!
