Here are a few of my favourite websites.
ARHS Queensland
http://www.arhs-qld.org.au/
- Here you will find a few more of my recordings, plus a few of my good
friend Jacob Cash, who also happens to be their webmaster.
Steamsounds
http://www.steamsounds.org.uk/ - David Bailey has one of the most comprehensive
collections of UK recordings I have ever had the opportunity to hear,
plus his new SteamJukebox software makes searching and playing that
favourite loco recording a painless experience. Besides being a
bit of a mentor for me, David has also taken some very nice photographs
of the old country, and also has audio and mp3 CD's for sale.
Forum für Dampf-Soundfreaks - Jörg Dreckmann's excellent site for german steam
sounds. He has a recording of most classes of german steam and
some of them have to be heard to be believed, especially the three
cylinder 03.10
For those who prefer internal combustion, especially the english variety, Andy Slater's BR Diesel Web here:
http://www.brdw.co.uk has an amazing collection of recordings and several excellent CDs for sale.
Here
is another site that takes up a lot of my spare time, Trainz Railroad
Simulator 2006. Once you start playing with it, kiss your spare
time goodbye!!
If you want to see how content is created for simulators such as Trainz, check out Ian Manion's (Vulcan) site at
http://www.ianztrainz.com.au/
. Ian is one of the masters and is also one of the nicest guys
you
could meet. Freely giving of his time to help others, he has also
helped me get started in 3D modelling through his excellent tutorials..
At
http://www.tracksandtrains.com/qsmee/
you will find information on my local model engineers club, and
occasionally you might see a pic of me or my loco on the images pages.
Visit
Steam & Engine of Australia
for one of the best steam related websites in Australia. Run by
Paul Pavlinovich, this has heaps of comprehensive information on a
range of topics and also has a link to the COALS (Conversations Of
Australian Live Steamers) email list.
If you think steam is dead, then you should visit the
Ultimate Steam
page. This site is a mecca for those of us who believe steam
still has a future and especially those disciples of Porta, Chapelon,
Kylala and other engineers who have continued the development and
advancement of steam technology. If you have travelled behind
Puffing Billy's NA No. 6A with her Lempor exhaust, or seen R711 and
R766 with their modified front ends and double chimneys, well I'm sure
they got their ideas from the Ultimate Steam pages!!
RailServe.com: The Internet Railroad Directory - Over 10,000
