Background
Kazemaru was supposed to grow up as a shinobi of Tsukigakure (月隠れ; Hidden Moon Village), but a violent court scandal during his youth branded his family criminals, and his father sent him off to the west, where he was raised by an elven ranger. Before this, however, he was a friendly rival with a boy named Tsunomaru, whom he would often defeat in sparring matches. Once the elf had deemed him suitably trained, he was drafted to an adventuring party led by the black knight Sven Ebongauth, with whom he descended deep into the depths of the earth, contending with illithids and drow, before returning to the surface and encountering the lich Ariston. Later, he led a misadventure into the demiplane of Ravenloft, which culminated in an encounter with Lord Soth, who was on his own misadventure from the realms of Dragonlance. His group was then shifted to the plane of Acheron, on which they agreed to sack a temple of Heironeous in exchange for being allowed to remain on the material plane afterwards. Following this quest, he was reunited with Sven and met the vile thief Lars and his minstrel Jacob, and located the Deck of Many Things, which he then promptly gave to a gnome who turned out later to be a villain almost as heinous as Lars. His next adventure involved reuniting with Tsunomaru, who was now a full chuunin (中忍; mid-level team leader) for Tsukigakure. He returned to his home country, though he kept a low profile and wore a mask. During his training there, however, he and Tsunomaru managed to save the village from a number of invading ogre mages. As a result, a number of warriors, including the female samurai Shizuko, joined Kazemaru and returned with him to the west. After a long stint guarding over the lands near the town of Sindweth, he and Shizuko, Tsunomaru having faded back into service as a shinobi, set out to locate the villain to whom he had given the Deck of Many Things. He was promptly found and killed, and they set out to return the deadly artifact to its former resting place. On the way, however, Kazemaru succumbed to curiosity and he drew cards from the Deck, drawing first the dreaded Void card. His soul sat imprisoned on the plane of Gehenna. Thankfully, though, he was recently rescued from the clutches of an ultroloth by a group that included Sasha Mihailovich and several others. He is currently 26.
Personality
Kazemaru is a kind and benevolent leader, and a fierce yet calculating fighter. Perhaps one of his biggest flaws is that he is too trusting of others. He was robbed by Lars, he gave the Deck to the gnome called T, and perhaps one of his best friends was a black knight of Erythnul. Since he returned from Tsukigakure, he continues to wear the mask and rarely speaks to those outside of his following, the Blue Guardians. He will risk life and limb to protect the innocent, but his sense of justice against villains is very strong.
