California Youth-In-Theatre Day

March 15-16, 2010
Sacramento, CA

Tri-School Theatre will be sending a delegation of students to represent theatre arts to our legislators. It is a great honor to participate in this event honoring prize-winning students. All students attending will perform a piece for legislators, their aides, fellow prize winning students, and their teachers. Students will also be able to take workshops from theatre professionals and have a key note speaker. If time allows, we will take a tour of the Capitol and meet with legislators. This is an excellent opportunity for students of all grade levels to proudly promote Tri-School and their own school and to be an advocate for the arts. Students are honored with certificates from legislators and the California Educational Theatre Association acknowledging them as outstanding students.

Who can go?
Tri-School will take up to 8 students on this trip. Any student who won a MACY Award for Working or Millie, a CETA Certificate for Dead Man Walking, or received an award at teh 2009 Thespian Banquet is eligible to perform. If you did not receive one of these honors, you may still audition to represent California State Thespians. Auditions are on September 26th at St. Lucy's High School during the leadership/tech conferences. You do not need to register for the conference to audition. Students chosen at these auditions will receive a scholarship of approximately $125.

How much is it?
The total cost to attend this event will be approximately $290-$350. This includes airfare, shuttles, registration, one night hotel stay, overnight insurance, 2 chaperones (we are required to provide one male and one female chaperone), one breakfast and one lunch. Because airfare varies greatly from month to month, this is the best estimate we can give. See above for scholarship info.

What do we perform?
You may choose a monologue, song, scene, dance, or duet musical theatre piece. If you audition for Thespians, you will have to perform that piece if you are selected. Otherwise, you may choose your material. All material must be 'G' Rated, and should showcase your talents. You will be required to meet with Mrs. Pearson at least twice to approve/rehearse/review your material. If you would like help selecting your piece, Mrs. Pearson will be available to assist you.

Details/forms will be sent to you after auditions. Questions? Call Mrs. Pearson at 714-774-7575 ext. 1158

Please fill out and return the paperwork to
Tri-School on or before September 5th.
