![]() | Set in 1959 in Boston's Colonial Theatre, this endearing musical comedy whodunit is reminiscent of 1950s murder-mystery plots. The divorced songwriters, naive financial banker, flamboyant director, strong lady producer with a straying husband, an inexperienced ingenue, and a detective who secretly dreams of the theatre are just the beginning of the cast of characters. In the opening scene, the leading lady, who can't sing, dance, act, or remember her lines, dies in the middle of her curtain call. It's discovered soon afterwards that she was murdered, most likely by one of the company members! To top it all off, the production, Robbin' Hood of the Old West, is a complete flop in the reviews and is going to close after only one show. Enter Lieutenant Frank Cioffi, and everyone is thrown into a whirlwind. The entire theatre and its company is sequestered for questioning, but Cioffi takes more interest in redeveloping the show to become a hit, even when several murders follow the first one! Brilliant songs, exhilarating tap dance numbers, amusing characters, and a show within a show make for a wonderful evening of musical theatre. You won't want to miss it! MORE INFORMATION >> |
